for the record, I am not a Nazi, nor do I support any form of totalitarianism, be it Nazism, Fascism, Communism or NeoConism.
now that I have established that, I would like to address a personal pet-peeve that has to do with a hobby of mine. I like to build models, and have ever since I was a kid. model planes are one of my favorite things to build, and World War II planes are of particular interest. I've built a fairly large number of model planes, depicting all sides and all theatres of the war, and that includes the German Luftwaffe. Now, between 1933 and 1945, all German planes had a swastika painted on the tail-fin. this was required by the Nazi government, whether the pilot was a Nazi or not, so to me, displaying a swastika on a model plane from that era is not an endorsement of Nazism, but simply an accurate portrayal of a genuine aircraft.
when I got into this hobby back in the seventies, all such models had a swastika decal for that purpose, but now, for some unknown reason, most model manufaturers do not include a swastika, apparently because of the threat of a lawsuit or something. what are they afraid of? do they think a decal is going to bring back Hitler? are they trying to pretend there were no nazis in the Luftwaffe? do the fear that allowing a model builder to accurately display a model might be taken as an endorsement of Nazism. I have a red stars on my Russian Yak-3 model, does that make me a communist, or do the fascist Italian markings on my Macci C-202 Fulgore mean that I support Mussolini? No, these are just decals. So is a swastika.
I know that this is not the most important thing in anybody's mind, but I just wanted to vent a little about a pet peeve. Have you ever tried to paint a swastika by hand in 1/72 scale? if you have, you can see what i'm annoyed about.

That's RIDICULOUS. Are history books going to erase swastikas now as well? Historical movies have to instead show the Nazi's insignia being a kitten hugging a puppy?
Burn all copies of Indiana Jones, just like Hitler and Nazi's did (in Indian Jones!)! -

Yeah. Germany passed a law making ownership of anything with a swastika on it illegal. This includes postage stamps, old postcards, models, books. and war memorabilia. The Germans are being Nazis about not being Nazis.

This is just a small example of the political correctness that cripples much of the world in the name of enlightenment. If we don't learn from history, we are destined to repeat it. If we bury it or ignore it, it is to our own peril.

Yeah, I'm sure the Nazi's thought the same way when they were burning books that had "negative" information in them.

The Germans are very thorough. Here is a link that might interest you. Under the heading "sidebar", is a recently released document that shows their thoroughness.
Sorry, I forgot to put the link in. Here it is:

The swastika is actually a Buddhist symbol for 'luck'. I went to a temple a few years ago with my world-religions class [I went to a Catholic high-school], and we were appalled by the fact that there were swastikas all over the walls. The monks later explained the significance of the symbol, saying that the Nazis laid claim to it and ruined what it actually stood for.
Just thought I'd add to the infinite supply of human knowledge.
