Should Doctors be sued for giving a Jehova's Witness blood?
-
OMG
see there you go making us think hard stuff again....grr.. I'll have to think about that one for a little while. I'll get back to you..hhuumm
Dang...where do you come up with this stuff? -
Noup
Doctors chose that career and were trained to save lives whatever the cost (unless killing others, of course). And if the country's Constitution doesn't state that doctors should be sued for doing their jobs, then it souldn't be that way. -
I dont think anyone has the right to give unwanted medical treatment to any one for any reason. Science is the most presumptuous religeon of any that mankind has ever incountered, Its doctrin asumes that because they have procedures to varify results it must be taken at face vallue , without concideration of the creator who established the laws that make those procedures work, and who could at will change them
-
-
would you still agree if the doctor, at the time didnt know about the religion??
-
-
No, If the doctor had to make a decision without the benifit of knowing the persons religeon, and no time or way to make such determination, he is not at fault
-
-
lol, i dont think doctor's are going to take the time to find out.
-
-
-
-
If they have the time to do so they better, because in that instance they ARE at fault, and by having the time, im not refering to the golf match they might be late for , but the condition of the patient
-
-
it't techniquely not their job to find out.
-
-
Of course not, its not the doctrin of their religeon to be responcible, just acurate, Thank God we have law suites and courts to make sure they do find it part of their job
-
-
the doctor's job???
-
-
I would say so , but I might be convinced otherwise if science starts suporting the idea its ok if christains go to randomly forcefully baptising anyone they choose without finding out if they want it or not, and if it dont take the first time keep going till it does are they drown
-
-
hmm, dont they already do that? i never wanted to be baptized but i was.
-
-
-
-
Nah its mostly a voluntary thing, try going to Saudi Arabia and baptising moslems
-
-
LMAO
-
-
If someone I loved was in the hospital and the doctors didn't do anything to help them because they were busy trying to find out what religion they were, many residents would become patients that day.
-
I agree, and as a matter of fact clearly stated it would depend upon the condition of the patient. However if you were a devout jehovas witness, I dont think your viewpoint might be the same.
-
Granted, but I don't think their beliefs should effect the entire population's efficiency in ER care.
-
nor do I but I do think if they choose not to recieve med treatment, the entire population should require it of them, and it is encumbant upon those in such a positsion, to be as sure as posible given the time they have, that what they do is not against someones wishes, If the doctor dont have time he has plenty of stsf, I can tell you from my own personal experience, actual DR.s do very little in emergency room treatment. they are generaly somewhere napping if something everyone else cant handle should arise or at least available by phone.

PS, They dont mind billing for someone elses work
-
lol
I just thought of a new position. They need to carry a card on them that says "Deny me medical treatment!"--though that could lead to back-up plans on murders...
Ok, new plan. If the doctor does it and the person complains that their faith doesn't allow that--then let their faith punish the doctor in this life or the next. In the meantime, let the doctor do his despicable work of saving lives. -
it seems these days everyone is carrying a card for just about every thing...ggezzz

Why do they believe what they do about healing?
(Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. ) + (1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. ). And how badly was He beaten to pay for our physical sins? (Isa 52:14 As many were astonished at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: ) . And what does the bible say to do if you get sick? (Jam 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
Jam 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. )
God has often given me relief and in some cases, outright healing on many occasions by following His rules. Go, in faith, to the minister for anointing and prayer. Doctors have no power to heal. They can cut parts off or they can give you medicines to treat your symptoms, but healing is beyond them. I am not a JW, but I understand their belief in healing. -
I don't. Reminds me of the tale of the faithful servant of God, sitting on his roof during a hurricane. Police drove by and asked if he needed asssistance getting to higher ground, and he said "No, I will pray to the Lord and He will save me.". The water rose and neighbors came by on a boat, telling him to get in. To which he said "No, I will pray to the Lord and He will save me." The water was just above the roof now, and an emergency helicopter flew in and sent down a ladder, to which he shouted up "No, I will pray to the Lord and He will save me."
Hours later the man dies and finds himself in Heaven. The Lord welcomes him with a large smile and a warm embrace, congradulating him on the wonderful life he had lead. The man is slightly troubled and says "Lord, I don't wish to be disrepectful, but if you have been so pleased with my work on Earth, why didn't save me when I prayed to you?" To which The Lord replied, "I sent the police, a boat, and a helicopter!"
Now, I don't neccessarily believe all who live and die do so because God is happy or displeased with them, but there's sound advice in there. Count the blessings bestowed upon you. -
Lol good story
-
lol crazy
-
No, if the person is religious they shouldn't be allowed to sue doctors. After all, they depend on magic for their answers--not science--so it is a double standard if they expect science to be consistent and honest.
-
-
lol in a way he does have a point. If your views on your religion are so strong that you think there should be non-interference so God can let happen what He wants, who are you to bring a doctor to court? To administer justice?
Just thinking about this more makes it more baffling to me. You can starve to death. The cure, so to speak, is eating. Meat will give you the proteins you need. Milk the calcium. Fruits your daily dose of good-stuff vitamins. You can not eat and wait for God to decide if you will live or not, or you can eat and assume God won't be offended. How is medicine any different? Are there clear-cut borders on things like "Man, my throat is so scratchy--warm foods and citrus usually make me feel better"? -
If a doctor gave a Jehovah's witness blood without their consent, wouldn't this be an outside intervention and thus not your 'sin'?
-
-
The bible says to not eat shellfish or fish without fins AND scales. So I don't, because God says so. But on closer examination these creatures are all bottom feeders and scavengers. Now I'm doubly sure I don't want to partake. But the thing is, God knew first and was/is trying to protect me. I probably won't die from eating a lobster or getting an untainted blood transfusion. If I am forced to ingest these things, I don't think it is a sin, but it is a violation of my beliefs and my rights, ergo it is the enforcer who sins by forcing me against God's will.
-
-
What the Bible says is not what "God" said. Educated Christians know this. You seem sure of God's will. That alone is a very scary prospect.
-
-
Don't be scared. You can know God's will too.
-
2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

your diet must be really bland.

Everything I say is true, because if I said it it's true.
Same thought process.

circular arguments with Mudgod. Not worth talking to people like this. It's a waste of time.
-
-
Just show me where I'm wrong. We may have differing beliefs, but I stand by my point of view. Everyone here knows where I stand. If I quote a scripture that is incorrect or misleading, show me. I'm not too headstrong to admit if I am wrong. Just show it to me.
-
-
The Bible also says to not touch an object that has been touched by a woman during her period of menstruation. These are customs for the Israelites. Are we also meant to build an arc of the covenant? These instructions are not for gentiles. Our instructions came from Jesus.

interesting debate
while i am not a JW myself, nor do i agree with their dogma, i do respect their right to practice their beliefs as long as they stay within the law. jW's consider accepting blood transfusions to be a form of vampirism expressly forbidden in the bible (this is not my belief, i got this from a JW I know) therefor forcing a Jehovah's witness to accept a blood transfusion violates his religious rights just as much as force-feeding a Jew pork. still, if i were a doctor, i'm not sure i would be able to sit by and let someone die for their beliefs, much as they might want to, so there is a dilemma here -
-
That's because they don't want you to determine who, what, why, or if God is, they think it's their job. Doctors CANNOT heal, only God can heal. And don't believe they are doing God's work. Doctors hardly, if ever, consider God as a part of the healing process, let alone being the only one who can heal.
-
-
But they do heal.
-
-
-
anyone has the rite to refuse treatment
-
-
yes, that is true, but that right can be challenged. if someone wanted to commit suicide, he can be legally committed to a mental hospital against his own wishes. yet is perfectly legal to assign a DNR (do not recessitate) code to an elderly person or a cancer patient. strange thing, the law. they are willing to let you die of sickness and old age, but they don't want you taking an active part in your own demise.
-
-
neffer no doctor can assign a DNR status to a person. the person or the family member mentioned in the living will has to sign off on it in a legal document. death is a totally natural part of life and sometimes medical intervention does more harm than good. as in the case of the terminally ill.
in an otherwise healthy person wishing to commit suicide is considered to be a symptom of depression and the person is not in possession of his faculties.
getting back to the case of the JW. if the person is conscious and his makes his wishes known than he can not be treated. the problem is that when you need a blood transfusion you are usually unconscious.
if i or any medical provider treat someone against their will that person has committed malpractice even a CNA can be sued
-
depends was the JW awake or out cold? Also if said doctor fallowed the JWs faith and didn't treat him/her could they be charged with murder?
And if so what defense could be used to help the doctor.I don't agree with suing a doc for treating some one if your going to fallow some faith that does not allow medical treatment then you need to go into your local hospital and let them know you refuse aid.
It falls on the person who is be treated to decided what they want and what they don't want.
I seem to remember a child abuse case that poped up a few years ago where the parents were JWs and refused to take the kid to the hospital.I'm not sure but I think they were charged with naglect and murder.
Tis better to treat the not.If I were a doctor or er tech I'd do what I had too.Better to act the get hit with involentary murder charges.
Also was the rest of thier family in is JW if they are not then they could pull rank and say do what you have to save my(broth, sister, son, daughter, mother, father, ect.).
Would you sue your family for wanting you alive and well?I sure wouldn't.But then I have told my kin what I want and what I don't want.
Bottom line its up to the JW to make sure that they are not treated by medical doctors. It's really easy go in and talk to Admin staff and tell them you don't want any form of treatment. You sign a wiever that lets them stand back and let god decided.
