30 years ago we slipped out of the dark ages of institutionalizing our mentally handicapped and headed towards a direction called "Community Based Living". Community Based Living tries to integrate, expose and normalize people with developmental dissabilities into society and community within a home setting supported by staff and counselors. It gives people with dissabilities the opportunity to be a part of a community...to enrich our neighbourhood.. to teach people to enjoy the diversity communities have to offer. However as of late The Canadian government has taken steps to re-open institutions across Canada. Now people with dissabilities can be hidden away from society...out of sight...out of mind. they're saying lets get the undesirables off our streets and out of our communities. Lets put them all in one building and basically "feed and water" them. Lets take away their rights and freedoms because we (the government) know whats best for them.

My question to everyone is? What is your oppinion on this rizing issue?

I think some people need time in institutions, as long as they are not the horrors they once were. Good treatment and actual progressive steps rather than locking them away and throwing them chicken bones every so often.

The Suicidal Tendencies song 'Institutionalized' says it all i think.

Modern psychology is in the position to tell people what they should be, and hold them until they become it. What's up with that? How easily has power like that been abused throughout history?

Well i sure as hell didnt vote for the conservatives! sorry guys but this was something that they do. they try to make the society perfect with people being all the same. conservatives live in the past where such things were normal. Heck, they even tried to take same-sex marriages away.

you would be suprised at how simular our morals are. we need diversity so we do not get stangant within the trappings of one set of morals.

I did not mean to imply we didn't need any diversity. Oh, it would not surprise me any to know our morals are simular. I do not know you personally, only through our virtual world but I perceive you to be a fine man with a good heart and a strong character or at least that is how you come across to me. You know I think diversity is a good thing. I thoroughly enjoy tremendous diversity in all my friendships, foods I eat, clothes I wear, and etc... I even think diversity in morals is good to some degree. It's just I think one should be a little careful with diversity in this area. I happen to think that too much diversity in morals is almost like appearing to not have any morals at all. I guess I'm asking to what degree diversity within morals is acceptable? When is too much diversity too much? Diversity is no different than anything else on Earth: A little bit is good but too much of a good thing is not so good.

geez, i can see it now, EB in a burnt orange shirt and Lime green pants, all ready to go partying....

the diversity would not be as much a problem as you might think. everyone says love thy neighbour (almost every religion has this ideal (almost cause i dont know all of them)). but also all religions have some loophole that allows for hate to seap through. this is where the diversity comes in. if we have the diversity, one moral has the negitive and one the positive. yes this is conflict BUT this also opens the door to an ability to CHANGE a moral to something more pure.

this also reminds me of a post you made about canadians and americans. americans unity in comformity and canadians unity in diversity. i think this is one of the main reasons we are on different wavelengths.

Morals need to be the same universally or else it creates conflict. Yes be diverse as individuals but morally speaking we should be aiming for the goals or else we will come crashing into each other.
