It seems pretty clear that the globe is warming up in some ways. Is it due to natural earth cycles, or is it due to human influence via pollutants, forest depletion and greenhouse gasses?

Well it's not a secret anymore. It's been proven that carbon dioxide is the main reason for the global warming of the earth. Half of the polar ice cap up north is melted, which explains the water-related disasters that have been occurring lately (hurricanes). We've calculated in Chemistry class, just a couple of days ago, that for every 50L (something like 12.5 gallons) of gasoline (octane) burnt, 85 000L (approximately 21 250 gallons) of carbon dioxide are released. Multiply that by the number of vehicles there are on this planet and you'll see just why the earth is boiling up.

Ok, so we've heard the causes of global warming a thousand times, and we've all been horrified (at least I hope we have) by the devastating effects a simple degree change could have on the planet. Now it's time to reach a solution. I know our country is obsessed with convenience and speed, what with the constant temptations of fast food and gas-guzzling vehicles. But we really need to take into consideration what the long term effects of these "conveniences" are. This may sound like a Sci Fi horror movie, but global warming could prove deadly within the next century. Those little things, like turning off lights when you leave a room and deciding to walk rather than drive to a destination, can really have a positive impact on our atmosphere. By wasting energy, we are increasing the amount of emissions produced by power plants that provide that energy, which produces even more deadly greenhouse gases. If we could slow down a little bit, and think of new energy sources, such as Hydrogen fuel cells in vehicles, so many problems in our world would be solved. Also, deforestation is a terrible practice that is leading to the demolition of entire rainforests. Those forests provide our world with oxygen, and without them, the buildup of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide will be absolutely unbearable. A law needs to be put into action requiring reforestation practices of every lumber company, meaning the companies would plant new trees while cutting down others. This will keep deserts from forming, and it will make the Earth a much better place for animals and humans alike to thrive. The solutions to this rising dilemna are so simple, yet no one in our government has realized it. The payoff of saving our rainforests and finding alternative energy sources is so incredible, that's it's hard to believe there's less support from our government to fund these projects.

We have to accept responsibilityVoted for by Applehead.
Even if by some miracle we aren't damaging the Earth beyond repair we still have to admit that the way we treat our atmosphere is shocking!
Domestic windmills are becoming more popular here in the U.K. but for some reason there are lots of folks who are against windfarms. Why? I just don't get it surely they are more attractive than pylons and they will help save our environment. Just what is the issue surely anyone with sense would agree they are a great option. Maybe it's down to people who are too stubborn and narrow minded, the kind that will realise when its too late.
When will people have the sense to realise prevention is better than cure. WAKE UP PEOPLE Sort it now!!!

People do have an effectVoted for by david.
Human energy outputs pales in comparison to specific, large weather systems, however there are billions of us on the planet. The combination of all the altering of localized areas does have an effect on the environment. From massive worldwide deforestation to an increase of atmospheric greenhouse gasses being emitted, everything adds up to having an effect. Unfortunately, due to the huge variety in all weather and climate conditions, weather data can occupy a big range of values.
I think it will take either decades worth of immense data or severe alterations for the human-induced trends to stand out from the ordinary data.

It's out of our controlThere is a lot of research saying that glaciers hold CO2 right? If they were to melt wouldn't there be a spike in CO2?Voted for by iota2208.
I would also like to note that we are coming out of what is known as the 'little ice age'. it was pre-mid-evil age. the glaciers advanced over northern north America and much of Europe. when it finally started to break it caused almost as much devastation as when it came. A dam of ice broke in Canada and make the Hudson bay. and made all of the worlds currents stop. we are still recovering the CO2 rates now can still be explained by that mini ice age.
here are some interesting statistics:
Humans put out 6 Billion tons of carbon a year.
Trees suck in 420 Billion tons a year.
Trees release 360 Billion tons a year. (fall)
Diatoms suck 85 Billion tons a year. (none released because it is imposable to tell they are constantly dieing and growing)
10 tons of carbon a year is turned into lime stone a year.
Volcanoes release 2.5 Billion tons a year.
I know we release a lot but come on we fall in comparison to the natural world.
This whole thing is just a case of people thinking they are much more important then we are. -
Global warmingThe earth is getting warmer because of of people like Al Gore and his suporters breath, full of politicaly charged agendas and hot air, and most likely heavily invested in corprate interprises that depend on the belief in that falicy to survive. Other than that, there is no global warming, They like to use the polar ice caps as proof, so I say put an icecube from your freezer on the table, measure it with your calipers, and check the melt rate, what you will find is that a constant temperature, it melts faster as it gets smaller, no extra warming required.Voted for by Dwn.

The balanced from of this should look like this
C3H4 + (4)O2<=>(3)CO2 + (2)H2O
or for your problem
(50) C3H4 + (200)O2<=> (150)CO2 +(100)H2O
what you are saying is
(50) C3H4 + (200)O2<=> (85000)CO2 +(100)H2O
... you see the problem...
Another thing the earths atmosphere is .9% CO2... you see my problem with believing that CO2 controls the temperature of the earth... There is no agreement on that idea that CO2 is the problem it is much more likely that it is water vapor making up a good 40%(estimation sorry had trouble with sources) of our atmosphere. Water vapor makes up humidity it makes rain forests hot and causes the 'dog days' of summer. Many believe that that is the problem and is you look in the previous equations our cars release that as well.
