God -is there such a thing ?

I believe that there is no God. I am as convinced of this view as others are of the opposite view. I think we are simply afraid to admit that there is no other reason for our existence than the continuation of the species. Animals copulate, eat, drink, defecate, have an order of social superiority (status) live and die etc just as we do, so why think we are different ?
We may be the most intelligent species but the invention of God is a vanity I oppose - it comforts the masses who are deprived and believe that in the next life they will prosper while the rich will get the poor person's lesser status.
Actually, it suits governments to align religion and state since the hope of better things to come may prevent rebellion and severe discontent with deprivation policies that serve the needs of the chosen few (the rich and powerful). I utterly reject this comfort zone and embrace my fruitless destiny with open arms - at least I can live an honest life of acceptance of my menial status in a vast universe.
In fact, not only do I accept my insignificance, I exult in it.

You attempting to grasp the mind of an infinite God is absolutely funny. If everything we cannot grasp means it virtually does not exist then mankind is in trouble

  • Good Points

I believe that ‘God’ is the label we use to explain out highest ideals- like justice, love, right(rationalism), mystery. But to say that the Christian God has a monopoly on all that- would be to take the perfection out of God…I believe in all the highest ideals of the universe, and if there is a single God he isn’t going to hold it against me that I couldn’t figure it out…it’s not that I rejected him…I simply don’t know…so for my totally honesty I will be rewarded…that is IF there is a God, and those who are religious just to have brownie points with God will have missed the point, and be unable to be in God’s presence. Just my opinions.

  • Existentialism...

Have you ever read anything by Jean Paul Sartre? He elaborated on his views of existentialism. It's pretty much what you're talking about, That people accept that they are miniscule in this infinite universe. My personal idea of existence is that we are born, we live, then we die. Our lives are what we make of them, and essentially if you don't do anything to make your existence on this earth known, it is a life wasted. Nothing happens after we die, we decay and once again we belong to the infinite system. Also, I believe "God" is basic human conscience. If you look at the Ten Commandments you notice that they are basically how every human would normally react. If you can look at yourself in the mirror than you should have no problem. I think religion used to be a form of guidelines for people and their lives, and now that people have developed intellectually they don't need to grasp on to the idea of religion to live a normal and ethical life.

  • hell, why not?

What do we have to lose to believe in a god? As a long as we dont depend on a god to live a fruitful life, and let ourselves grow, always, so that when we die we think, ‘hey ive had a good life’. if it makes us feel like we re not alone, if it gives us a support because life is tough sometimes, if it makes us be happy and enjoy life and see life as beautiful, then why the hell not believe in a god? Even if its not real? But dont we each make our own realities anyway?

  • Fear

Everyone is afraid of death ,afraid of failing. It is this fear that makes people wish for a higher "power",a supernatural power which is above all elements, an almighty being, to save them.(that defines God)Man created God out of fear.It comforts them to belive they are not directly responsible for their lives. They pass it on to their children, never allowing them to question its rationality. thats why most people believe in god. it takes rational thinking to dissolve the concept of god.

  • Much more

Although I disagree with every facet of the first argument given on this page, I must ask what value there is “in being honest” if one admits that one’s destiny is fruitless. Im not quite sure how honesty became a value from an atheist’s point of view. Asserting that in being honest one must be an atheist, you are begging the question, assuming what you have set out to prove. This is not an argument at all.

  • God is Love

You do believe in love? Love is that intangible thing that is, just as God Is. It cannot and will not be distroyed and lives for all eternity. Love is perfect just as God is perfect.

There must be a First and Perfect Cause in order to set all things into motion perfectly. To this First and Perfect Cause we give the name God. There can be no other pryor cause for then in second place, it would be merely an effect of a cause before it. This First Cause must be perfect in order for all things following to be perfect. Such is the vastness of space and our universe and all things contained.

I assume you are a young adult man. Like many young adults, it’s not uncommon that they take the “I don’t believe in God” stand, because in truth and in reality most, in this light, have a few more sins on their agenda before they decide to go the strait and narrow.

You ramble in your statement of wealth comparisons which is a product of human vanity and jealousy; has nothing to do with God. Deprivation is a product of one’s sins; a form of self-entrapement causing one to lose their potential freedom. True freedom comes from obedience to the laws of God, whereby, one avoids offending love which is God. God, who has no need himself for the commandments, gave them to us so we can know how to live happy. Our justice system is based on the Ten Commandments for this same reason.

A simple for-instance. Suppose you speak an unkind and untruth of someone. As a result you will find it hard to face this person with a free and clear conscience. Hence self-entrapment, one’s own deprivation do to sin against love. No Freedom here. Hence the old saying, “The truth will set you free.” God is Truth as well.

  • I Do Not Belive in A God

i do not believe that there is a god because it says all thruout the Torah and Bible that there were these great prophets. well, where are they now? why have we not seen a burning bush since like 500,000 years ago. there is no proof that god relaly exists. i mean, if he does, then y do we have people living on the streets. then again, maybe the messiah will come once we let it. once we come together as HUMAN BEINGS, not a Jews or Christians, but as PEOPLE. please read the peace within the evil and you will see some of my points of veiws. thanx!! woot woot!

  • Because We are the ruler of Earth.

I figure that, if the Bible IS right, then God granted us dominion over the Earth. I believe that's an actual phrase from the Bible, like in Genesis, so I've been told. Also "Ask and ye shall receive." He didn't MAKE machines, or design them, or even design the universe that way. He let us design it.

Way I see it, God said, "Let there be light" and all that jazz... Mankind, in essense his "child" said, "let there be smog."

Anyhow, this isn't His world, though he started it; it's Ours.

At least, that's the only way the Good Book makes any sense.

  • Not sure

What proof is there? He may have done all kinds of stuff to make the people back then believe he is there, but there has never been a larger crisis in faith of him than there is now. So how come he doesn’t do something to show us that there is something to believe in?

On the other hand, what proof is there to his non-existance? I honestly don’t know is he is there, I just know that I have no reason to believe in him. Not yet, in any case.

I think the people who need faith, have it. And the people who don’t, get through this world just fine on their own. Without some godly force protecting them every day…

  • The idea or the entity

All throughout the bible you see people that are writing from their prospective or writing down stories that have been told to them throughout the years. it's all a matter of point of veiw. You see a craft coming from the sky to a primitive it is obviously god. (Ezikiel) Like captain kerk asked why does god need a vessel. If you look at the history of religion and keep an open mind and obviously read the entire bible and put yourself in the mindset of the people that were writing it and then read it again and put it into a modern context you will see two different stories. My theory is that god was an alien kid that won the blue ribbon at the science fair that year, but that's my oppinion. There are theories that we are descenats from a race of martians, and that is a legitamate claim because the evidence is there in ancient writings and relics. as far as Jesus is concerned The Jewish history books say that jesus is the son of a roman soldier, and mary was a political hack, BUT if you look at the things that Mary said before Jesus was born you will see that it all rang true regaurdless of cercumstances of her pregnancy. Mary was well versed in the tora. she knew that there were prophacies in those texts that were calling for a masia to be born to a virgin mother That would save the world. also realize that she had an illagitamate child in her woom and a fiance. the punishment for that was death. so to protect herself and her child she convinces Joseph that its the son of god. in the bible god comes to joseph in a dream. No other part of the bible does god do that. Usually god come strait to the people he wants to see him. have you ever fell asleep with the TV on. I rest my case. you have the most messed up dreams like you are in the TV show. Mary tells him that her child is the child of god and that he has to raise it. He dreams of god telling him that it's the truth. The point is that even if Jesus wasn't the son of god the prophacy still came true because the teachings of jesus did save the world. The world is a better place because of it. at the crucificion though there are a lot of descrepancies. usually a crucifiction would take weeks to kill a person. but jesus was dead (suposedly) in less than a day. Also, the roman captain allowed a private burial which is almost unheard of in those cercumstances because crucifiction victims would be put in mass graves. also his crucifiction was during passover. in the Jewish faith it is unthinkable to touch a dead body during passover. Now if you think of god as an Idea yeah the things that the bible says would be lagitimate. Parts of the bible just simply make no sense if you put god into the context of an entity. For example, adam and eve begot cane and abel. Cane killed abel and god forced adam to exile him, but cane found his wife in the woods outside of eden. where did she come from? in the old testiment (the hebrew version) Hell was named Giana in the writings. Right outside of jerusilum there is a valley named Giana. historicly Giana was a place where trash was burned. it was a constant infurno. sinners theives and murderers that were not desered of a proper Jewish burial were simply thrown into the fire. sounds a lot like hell doesn't it. Get educated and read the history. read dante's infurno read the writings that chronical the war between heaven and hell read all you can read but also read the history of the people who are in the bible and the places that the bible chronicals and get as much information to be able to decide for yourself don't you think you owe it to yourself? Like sir Izac Newton said, Who whas devoutly religious, "Even if there isn't a god it doesn't hurt to believe just in case"

And even when... life seems to be getting to you. There is someone out there.... Someone who will help you and guide you. And even when.... It seems like there is nothing left; but pain. There is someone out there who well help you understand. That there is a good life waiting to be regained... And even when.... Everything seems like all that is left is all wrong... There is someone out there who can help you be strong. And even when.... Having Faith is just so hard to do.... Just remember even when you have doubt. About God .... He still believes in you........

  • Just research

I do believe, not because my parents told me, but because I do. You really need to study different religions more to fully understand these questions you've made. animals don't worship a god because god made us in the image of hiself, so that we could be close to him.

you opinion about how people made up god for comfort is very logical, infact its the same thing I think of as the reason Evolution was made. They were too scared of a higher being, and so they desided that they would make a reason to not believe. (too bad evolution breaks laws of matter)

In order to truely know of his exsistance, or nonexsistance, one person would have to have knowlege from every religion (in full) and have no set opinion. Unfortunately, that is impossible.

  • I believe in God

It’s a crazy thought, thinking whether there is or isn’t a God because of the evolution thing. Here’s what I think about it: yes, we evolved from monkeys, apes, whatever the heck they were, but the monkeys and other animals got there from God.

  • Don't Know

You don't really have any proof that God does exist, or that he doesn't. There's also this thought I've had that belief in any divine entity, or any entity for that matter, would basically make it real. So God could be real, and Allah, and any of the other gods or creatures that are "myths." I figure if God wants me to believe in Him, He'll find a way. For now, I'm going to believe in the Norse pantheon, because they seem much more stable than the Christian god.

  • Interesting Concept

I'll be honest, the concept of a god is a very intersting concept, to some extent. I, though, have not 'lost faith' but choose not to believe in god. Saying I have 'lost faith' is offensive to me, as well as anything to do with god. I was raised catholic, shown some of the brutal truths, and decided that it was not for me.

I don't mind people believing in a god. That's utterly cool with me. But I also think people shouldn't tell me I have to believe in god, or tell me I'm wrong. I may or may not, but so can anyone else.

To be honest, yet again, I've been looking into the religion of Wicca. Unfortunately, not many groups are located within my area, so it's hard to find them. (Oh, the struggles within the state of kansas.)

Like said, god is an interesting concept. Some choose to go that way, some choose not to. I personally would rather not spend my life devoted to something that I do not believe in. I'm still struggling with an afterlife, for I do believe in ghosts, and there may be a heaven, but I don't believe in hell, god, or satan.

  • Bravery of the Blind

I would find it foolish to accept something as not being real simply because you find it braver to embrace worthlessness. In your arguement you have committed the fallacy known as "false proof" by stating that because there is no evidence for God he must not be real. This invalidates your entire opinion. Even so, I will argue on the contrary, that even though animals may live a life for no more of a reason to die, how does this apply to us? We cannot be put on the same level as the beasts of the field and birds of the air simply because we have the capacity to contemplate the point of our existance and they do not. This alone proves that man is a greater being that the beasts, be it a fly or a chimpanzee.
