argh

why do so many people believe that the sin of sodom and gommorah was homosexuality? it wasn't. assuming that you already know what happens in the story im just gonna go ahead and explain why homosexuality was not the sin of sodom

1)god sent the angels down to lots house to warn him of the destruction of the city, so whether or not the incedent with the angels and the townspeople happened or not, the town was already doomed.

2)the bible says that ALL the men of the city from every quarter and every household was there. there is no possible way in any society that ALL of the people were gay. also god said to abraham that not even ten righteous people could be found in the city. does that mean that there weren't at least ten straight people? i doubt it.

3)lot offered up his virgin daughters to the mob to be raped instead of the angels. this means that lot knew that the townspeople were mostly straight. (also giving your daughters up for sex is an ABOMINATION in leviticus)

if that wasn't enough to convince you that the sin of sodom was NOT homosexuality, check out these verses that came from the bible itself:

1)"Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned: they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me." Ezekiel 16:49-50

2)"This is what they will get in return for their pride, for insulting and mocking the people of the Lord Almighty. The Lord will be awesome to them when He destroys all the gods of the land." Zephaniah 2:8-11 (idolatry, NOT homosexuality was mentioned)

3)here, Jesus compares sodom to an INHOSPITABLE town"And if anyone will not receive you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from your own feet as you leave that house or town. Truly I say to you, it shall be more tolerable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town."Matthew 14-15

see, homosexuality was NOT mentioned in each of these passages. the sin of sodom was NOT and i repeat NOT homosexuality. so why do so many people out there use this story as a condemnation of homosexuality? i just don't get it.

  • Answer: Manipulation to Suit an Agenda

There's the answer, plain and simple.... The Old Testament is so unclearly stated that it can be interpreted in almost any way one wishes. Check out my postings on Genesis for more explaination/opinion on biblical contradiction. Take an ancient text, translate it back and forth by word of mouth a few times before anyone writes it down, then translate the simple ancient tablet a few times from language to language allowing only the most prominent amongst the population access to it "word" or copy so that it can be manipulated to suit their needs, then copy it over and over, a copy of a copy of a copy for about 3000 years until someone invents the printing press. You end up with a bunch of metaphors and phrases that are a solid as silly putty. (Nevermind the endless contradiction in the Bible itself.)

Suddenly not spilling bags of seed for crops means masturbation is evil, some law about women turns them into property (God said so), homosexuality is somehow evil because of some obscure phrase about men sleeping at the same time or something, throw in stories of rape, enslavement, sex, violence, war and bloodshed, tell people not to kill each other but then have everyone do it anyway (God told me to do it to the pagan heathens....) and you can mold an interpret the whole thing anyhow you damn well please and God can be on your side.

Now mix that with ignorance and lack of education, and add 1 part Politician Right-Wing Bible Thumper and you've got a Molotov Cocktail and some idiot already lit the wick from the flame on the burning Bill of Rights (lit at the top near the important stuff, like the first ammendment.)

Things have got to improve through education, the only antidote to the poison of ignorance. Maybe if more people actually gave a damn about whats going on around them things could be changed. So we'll have to sit by and wait as the Bill of Rights burns, teachers get forced into teaching religion in science class, Church and State slowly merge, cencorship increases, nobody is left to Police the police, the National guard stands around the door to every library and school, we let the 4th burn (its half gone already) and start saying goodby to the rest.

And the people you are talking about take charge (woops, too late on that one...)

Slippery slope, yeah. Hyperbolized, reactionary, ok I admit it. But at least based on fact, not molded from ancient text.

Don't wory folks everything is under control, just keep that duct tape handy..... that duct tape fixes everything from pulmonary embolisms to rusted out car mufflers... great stuff.

  • It wasn't but your misleading people.

    -1) True

-2) It does not matter if it’s “not possible” in your paradigm. If it’s in there, it’s true.

-3) No, it means he knew they might accept his daughters as a substitute for the angels disguised as men. - -

    -1) True

-2) As I said the last time we argued this point: In Zephaniah 2: 8-11, God is using Soddom and Gamorrah’s fate as an example of what will happen to Moab. He is not comparing Moab’s crimes to Soddom and Gammorah’s crimes; He’s comparing they’re punishments.

-3)Don’t take verses out of context. Especially when you quote the entirely wrong verse. Actually it was Matthew 10:14,15 “And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. For it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city.”

-God is not comparing Sodom to an “inhospitable” town, he’s comparing the fate of Sodom to the fate of a town who rejects the word of God. This verse was part of a chapter where Jesus was telling the disciples how to spread the word of God.

-There you have it. The truth. Now you can see for yourself who is using manipulation to forward their personal agenda.

-And the Bible clearly says that being gay is a definite sin: Romans 1:27> “And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.”

-Lust, love, (a sore point for those who aren’t “Bible-thumpers") it’s still men with men working that which is unseemly.

-As for the fact that the Bible might have been altered in some way along the line, the Bible itself says that God inspired it’s writing and it is the unerring Word of God. Now for those of you who are thinking “Oh, well who cares. I could write a book and say in the book that God says this is His Word.”, try to come up with as much fulfilled prophecy as is in the Bible and then come talk to me.

-There are no verses in the Bible that directly relate to masturbation.

-There are no verses in the Bible that say women are property.

-There are verses in the Bible concerning homosexuality. (I already gave you one)

-There are stories of rape, enslavement, sex, violence, war and bloodshed in the Bible.

-God commands us to not murder. But he did not take away our free will. And how often do we listen to any authority? And God never told us to kill the “pagan heathens”.

-An uneducated mind can mold the Bible into what he understands it to be. (As you can see in the argument above mine)

-There is no ignorance or lack of education in any of the above translations.

-Yes, most right-wing conservatives are Bible thumpers. But what does that have to do with Soddom and Gamorrah?

-The 1st ammendment is important, or else people like you might get away with warping the truth.

-Creationism isn’t a religion, it’s a possible scientific theory. (There’s just as much chance of it being true as evolution. In fact more.)

-Look at it this way: You see a skyscraper. Now which is the more logical argument; that a bunch of construction trucks full of the supplies collide in the middle of an intersection and the pieces just happen to form the skyscraper, or it is more logical to assume an engineer designed it and then it was built?

-Church and State are not merging. But you can’t expect a leader’s religious views not to affect his leadership.

    -How is censorship increasing?

-The courts are supposed to police the police. At least that’s what they’re supposed to be doing. Not rewriting the Constitution.

-Your argument is not wholly based on fact as you claim. But I’ll let people determine that for themselves. I won’t make that decision for them.

-As for the rest, most of it is made up of extreme fallacy anyway.

  • Why is it Prohibited?

Man is here in this world for trial, and the Creator had determined some ways to leading a chaste life. And he who leads his life according to the commandments of Almighty, will be blessed in the world Hereafter. Same is the case with homosexuality, murder, theft and other violations of rules and regulations.
