what is the point?

god is dangerousVoted for by painhelpsusfeel.
if we are told by a 'God' to love one another, why should this exclude those who do not follow one or two of the same beliefs? why are wars fought and people killed because all people want is to 'love' each other? i think this is because nobody truly wants to love anyone. i think god is an excuse thought up thousands of years ago to make murder acceptable.

good pointVoted for by The MisSin Truth.
this is something i have thought of many times. i think life, as far as "faith" is concerned could be one of 2 ways...1)"god" is a creation in mans image mad out of fear...or 2)the most high does exist and man would rather interrpret the acient text to reflect their own view of what makes them more god-like and what their prejudices are than to give the people the truth. i.e., the king james version of the bible, where rich white men are given the upper hand in every scene, and anything other than a rich white man is "3/5" of man. such as women, africans, natives, asians...etc. religion is simply a pawn for politicians and men to justify murder and get votes. about what precentage of the U.S. do you think is christian i would say about 50%, and what is Mr. Bush-whacked a christian. usama has men and women killing and dieing for Allah and land, and bush has men and women killing and dieing for christ and oil. they are on just different ends of the same spectrum.

my freaky ideaVoted for by flipflopinTM.
I think our creators were a species like our selves but futher evolved and created us to understand themselves, they had gifts we didn't (evolution having not happened yet) and we worshiped them and aspired to be like them and they tried to pass their know;edge to us and did their best with their imperfections.

Religions are Not FutileVoted for by silverlining.
Definitions of futile:
adjective: producing no result or effect Example: "A futile effort" adjective: unproductive of success Example: "Futile years after her artistic peak"
To argue that religions have no point or are unproductive is patently ridiculous. While I will not ignore the masses of criminal deeds which have been committed in the name of religion, they are actually irrelevant when it comes to the question of futility. This is because futility deals with the ability of something to perform actions which are noble, good and right. I believe that if one good deed, if one honest word, if one selfless action is performed as a result of religious beliefs, then religion is not futile. And so the only question remaining is- has an action been performed in the name of religion which is good, noble and right? And the answer is a resounding yes- look at the Christian aid in the tsunami, look at the Hare Krishnas caring for the terminally ill, look at the respect for animals and life that comes from beliefs about reincarnation. No, religion is not futile, because it has done tremendous good and will continue to do if we let it.

there are plenty of points.Voted for by Neros Decay.
religions are just the security blankets of humans. religions are created for the sole purpose of explaining things that are otherwise unexplainable by science. the fact that we have questions without answers scares us and needs to be justified--BOOM religion. instant explanation of exsistence and creation. religion is a code for how people should live their lives because without it controlling every aspect, some people would just forget to breathe and fall dead. guidance, security, a need to believe in something... theres plenty of points for religion but whether or not its the correct way to approach life or if its futile to mankind is up for debate.

I disagree
God is no danger to man. Man is rather a danger to God. The reason being man creates an ideal for the divine being. Who, what, and when man decided to speak of something with a higher power changed the face of the planet. Love is something that we each have. We each love something whether it be a person, an object, or an idea. I don't think that religious zealots are of the intention of hurting others because of religion. I do admit however that there have been religious persecution and problems in the past but one must understand that religion in general is not bad it is rather the people of a religion is bad. To state an analogy: do you think an apple tree would be bad if only one apple out of one hundred was rotten? Wars aren't fought due to religion. Wars are fought due to people wanting to control others ideas and thoughts. A person that wants to control another creates conflict. People who want to be free would rather not create that conflict that is happening. Murder is never acceptable by the God of the Christian bible. The reason why murder is wrong is that a person is taking the life of another.December 17, 2005

I agree with Chameleon...
I really believe that your view has more realistic approach to it when it comes to murder and how man treats man, however my view on "God" is rather different. I believe that we all stem from the same religon at one point, and then had different perspectives of what religon should be and rutuials, and that comes with culture, but it has a lot to do with what we think about, if there is a God or higher power. I'm not religious, so it all comes down to what each individual believes for themselves, unless its a religon that forces you to believe what they believe, in which case is more like a cult is what i think you were trying to say. Also, I agree that religion is sort of a scape goat for man to have reason to kill man, for their own beliefs and "God" We don't turly know what's right from wrong unless we believe it for ourselves. Some muderers simply don't comprehend the idea of wrong doing. Taking a life to them seems to be another days work, expecialy when it concerns government. Forgetting the bible and religon and politics for a moment, my theory is that we all want to believe in something "more" is out there to give us purpose becasue death is the unkown, and it is the unkown that holds the most fear in humanity. I think "god" is a way of accepting the end or begining of a life, and everything elce that comes with it. Thats a realistic aprach for rationalizing what humanity wants to believe. But we question everything, regardless of what we believe, how come we believe it? Is it proof? is it just cuz it was told to us? I don't think we'll ever get an answer to the big question, however, some do believe the answer is 42! (that'll make sence if your a geek who read the hitchhikers guide) lol. In my own personal believes however, I want to believe that there is a higher power looking out for us, making everything happen for a reason...
