Is time a person, a place, or a thing? Obviously it's not a thing. And it's not a place. Therefore it must be a person. QED.
But who?

A break down of Theories.22% Voted for by Latet Artifex, loveyourfate.
What is thought? Is it considered a thing? Thought is not tangible, does not exist in the physical universe, and yet it is as real as any other object or function. So for simplicity I will label Thought as an "intangible thing". Now that we have this fourth classification I will proceed to place time into it.
Time, according to the ancient texts of the Bible, originated from the very beginning of human existance on a place called earth. God used "days" to mark off segments of creation for symbolic use. So according to this theory "time" is an invention of God used as a reference point for symbolic and other reasons.
Time, according to the theory of evolution, is simply a man made device used to measure an invisible force called aging. The natural decay of any object in the universe is put on the scale of time and measured so as to make sense for the theory. In either Creation or Evolution, time is basically a reference point that we can use to measure the age of any example. There are those though, that would compare time to a "fourth dimension". In this case "time" is that invisible direction that the universe is travelling in accordance to.None of this really seems to help answer the question of "what is time?" so here is my theory. Time is nothing and time is everything. There is no entity, no specific thing out there that can properly be called time. Yet even if it were to remain unrecognized we would still follow its dictates, still obey its rules. It is epitomy of nothing everywhere.Regardless of the real answer to this question I would caution everyone not to waste too much "time" on this. It isn't worth it. -
TIMEVoted for by PARSHAD PATEL.
Time is a gesture that cant be expressed by feelings but can be feeled deeply. Time has an unknown depth ,the depth larger than soul and wider than universe. It is history's mystery that is still evolving and changing. Time cant be personified by shape, contrast, size. It cant be supposed for some moments. It is a momentum of force which was pushed by unknown who created universe and time. Time was not born it was just discovered in bushes of existence. Time is running, walking, flying, nobody knows except time. Time the larger one can visualise the deeper it goes. Time is big ocean where fishes and corals survive in its depth. The bottom of time is we the existence and creation. Nobody has seen the edge of time. The shades of time are different but they are all same for us. Time cant be splitted but can be played with as one and whole. The creator of time is not even god and supernaturals who can after existence of universe. Time cant be neglected and kept aside. It is not in our control nor we are its superiors. Time exists until we survive. After our death the layer of our existence mixes with colour of time. Time is the natural slayer and creator of ourselves. We do not know the native land of time. Its junction stops nowhere. It runs away form its junction as train from its destination. the fate of time is still in process and the destiny is still in procedure. however the time is the everchanging order of our life. When time feels itself the moment for us may be good or bad. time is not interpreted to gods. they take on their own terms and then they impose on human beings. we are still and experimental matter of which all time of projects are carried on. time predetermines our existence and the output of its programs is our near future.

The Fourth DimensionVoted for by Sharcu.
Was it not Einstein who said that time was the fourth dimension? Maybe it was someone else. Well, the third dimension is a place, correct? So therefore the fourt dimension would also be a place.

Time, an illusion?Voted for by Ygg.
In my view, time is an illusion. Think about it. We can't grab the past, but equally we can never grab the future. We're only able to live is the present, the now moment. If time is an illusion, then there must be only one eternal moment. However, because we have the ability to experience things, to live, our brains interprete the interactions with the material world as a series of endless moments which in the end create the illusion of a linear time concept.
Compare it with an immensely vast ocean which represents the eternal now. The moment you reach the shores, waves will start to emerge (caused by the interaction with the material). Every human is like one of those waves, born from within the ocean, emerging and growing because of the approaching shore, yet ultimately dying and flowing back to its roots. Unfortunately we tend to see our waves as being separated from all the others. We see other waves emerge next to ours, believing those are two different entities while in fact they share a common ground, which always remains there, Being in the Now. That illusion is catalyzed by our brains in the form of time. Even quantum physics says time doesn't exist when one takes a close look at the smallest level of the universe: particles pop out of the spacetime fabric without any cause, and even the present can influence the so-called past path of a quantum particle. If time doesn't exist in the very foundations of the world, how could it exist then in its offspring, being the macroscopic world? Or in other words, if the seed is an illusion, how could the tree be real? If there really is such a dichotomy between the microscopic and macroscopic world, where then lies the boundary between no-time and real-time? I still believe in the principle of "as above so below" though..
So in short, I believe time is only a mirage, forcing us to walk the bridge while in fact we ARE the bridge.

I guess it is a vegetable person.

God created Time with the UniverseVoted for by Sapphire2589.
My belief is that God created time when he created the universe. God has no need for time, he is not confined to the constrictions of it. He created time for us when he created the world. He knew that we would need time as he did not create us with the ability to comprehend things without a beginning an end. Time is all we know, without it we would not be able function. Time is merely something to help us function in the world. It serves no other purpose.

your logic is flawed because your information is flawed. We regard time as a noun. A noun is classified as a person, place, thing, OR IDEA. Since time is not a person, place, or thing, it must be an idea.

Time is change.Voted for by word warrior.
Time is what our lives are made of. Time is change. The reason why things change is because time changes. Time is what we have. Time is that thing we never can hold back. Time is what the universe runs on. Time started when the Universe started & is tied to it. Time ruleth everything. Everything has its time; that is the reason things get useless after their time.
