Age and Love

In modern day people are trying to become more tolerant of different kinds of love. But what age difference is alright for love? My parents tell me and my sisters we’re not allowed to date anyone more than a year older than us, and yet my father is 11 years older than my mother. In my personal opinion as long as the person is over 18 age doesn’t matter. But people I ask always have such different opinions. What’s yours? And should there be statutory rape laws?

  • Age Is Just A Number

I have been in an age gap relationship before. I don’t just mean by a few years I mean more. But I won’t go into too much depth. The point that I want to make is that you can’t help who you fall in love with. With real love nothing matters, you love a person for who they are and not for their age.

  • Not everyone at 18 is very wise

Anyone over eighteen should be able to date anyone they want, but hopefully they have the common sense to choose carefully, and wisely- and if they do, they will stick to people their own age. I dated a man of 25 when I was 18, and discovered that I couldn’t handle it- I was naive, and I had no concept of the word power in any concrete meaningful sense.

By the way- on the side- your mom is trying to protect you. You can’t compare her advice to you with her and your dad…that’s simply not a smart way to think things thorugh- life is a lot more complex than that.

    Great topic.

  • LET LOVE BE

Age does NOT matter in a relationship, maturity matters, but that can come at any age. I love my best friend emily (13) because she is one of the most mature people I have ever met, I am 18, I have dated anywhere from 13 to 27. That doesn’t make me a pervert, I just like who I like, I can not change that.

  • age is a number...

a number that seems to hold everybody back, it causes people to quickly judge your maturity level or you iq or just you in general by your age. if two people are in love age (if not too extreme like 20 or 30 years) should not matter. you do not have control over who you fall in love with and who you stay in love with. i find it ridiculous that there are statutory rape laws…the guys and girls know what they are doing and they know the risk of being hurt and all but the biggest risk they could have taken is not giving the other a chance, is not taking the risk of going out in the first place. love is an adventure and you shouldn’t be able to hinder someone from the entire adventure because of their age.

  • Age, age, age
Some people like to not date someone too much older or younger, some people like the age gap and feeling older and wiser or younger and looking forward to learning from the older one. All I really have to say is: If you meet someone (as long as its legal, if its not and one or the other person isn't willing to wait then they are not worth it) and you like them age shouldn't be a proublem. The only things age is good for is to see how long you have till you can drive, get cigs, get beer, go into retirement and to help with the whole medical issue. Age has nothing to do with the person and love. You arnt going to all of a sudden fall inlove with someone whos "the right age". and the how mature the person is is how well they were taught by parents or teachers or what ever they have in their life.

  • Love has no number.

In general, I am attracted to older men, but prior to this year I had not ever really considered a relationship with anyone more than about a year older than me. This year, however, I fell completely in love and it was returned. I am fifteen and a freshman in highschool, my boyfriend is seventeen and a seniour (though at the time we first started going out about five months ago he was sixteen as he skpped a grade) and we have a better relationship than a lot of more closely aged couples that I know. You can’t control who you fall in love with, so if something is making you happy and you are not getting hurt, you should do what makes you happy. If you are in love with someone and other people are critical of that, you should hear them out and see if you think they have a ligitimate point, but if they just don’t like what you are doing because it is different from them, you can disregard what they are saying and do what you want to.

  • why is age a big deal?

should a 15 yr old girl that loves an 19 yr old be banned from continally talking or seeing the person? i personally dont think so. age is just a number and love could last forever.

  • Be careful but go for it

Age does matter in a way-ie, if you are unlucky like I was and get a pervert, but so long as you're careful and know the other person really well, then why should it be wrong? I was unfortunate to love a 22 year old when I was 12, and we went out for ages and he was a total pervert, but that doesn't mean that just because I was unlucky once, i'm gonna be unlucky again. ~Alex~

  • Love is Love

I think that as long as the younger person is not being forced into anything then its fine. I mean, who says what is love and what is not? Love is beautiful, and it should be celebrated. Not belittled just because of age.

  • love

Most people have a connection with someone closer to their own age and other people don't. I'm 18 and I'm dating a 32 year old. My mom is 42 and married to a 60 year old. It works for me and for her. I think that while you're living with your parents you should go by their rules...when you move out then it's your call. The statutory rape thing is....I'm not sure about that. I think that someone made hte law up because their daughter was too young to have sexual relations and the parent had to make up something other than say no. The law's there but it's an annoying law; it's there for some reason.

  • love can be blind

love can be blind ...but not us,if a young person falls in love with a elderly person..it represents young persons imaturity to understand the situation ..and get confused but viceversa...elderlyperson should have a good state of mind to understand the sensuality between reality and lust....so its a foolishness if not true

soo love is blind..but there are different type..like sisterly,brotherlyetc.. dont get confused in it

  • Age and Love are definitely related.

I notice that many young (12-17 years) girls who date older (18 or more years) men tend to be surprised at the fact that these men are not who they say they are. Age DOES affect how love develops – what kind of love it is and how strong the love is. Although a good relationship is possible with even the largest of age gaps, it is less likely to happen. Teens, especially, should be wary of age gaps. Teens seem to have a VERY distorted view of love, that it is this magical thing that will make everything bad go away. I notice that teens also tend to make rash decisions based on this – “I love him so I will plan my marriage and life with him” or “I love him so I will have sex with him” or even something as simple as “I love him so I will sneak to his house to talk with him.” That last one, although the consequences may be mild, is still not necessarily a good decision.. It could get both members of the relationship in trouble, and perhaps one member has hidden intentions. Although those decisions are not specific to teens in relationships with older people, teens must be more aware of the consequences for these decisions when they are in that kind of a relationship. An older man can be extremely dangerous to a young girl.

I suppose I could go into more detail of how age and love are related.. I will not unless someone here really wants me to.

  • Your True Self is Ageless
There is a misconception that the "self" matures. Yes, the self that is locked into the Matrix ages. But your True Self is ageless. It has never aged since you were born. That True Self is your Awareness. That Awareness has stayed constant within you since day one. The only thing that has changed is that you have become more aware of knowledge. That's all. That Awareness is what is common to all of us. It never dies. It just forgets between death and the next birth.
