Is God Truley Omnipotent (all-powerful)?

If God is truely omnipotent, can he commit suicide? Can he swim? Can he sin? If the answer to these is no, then really, this is implying that God is NOT onmipotent and not all powerful...whilst the bible says he is.

  • One More Question and an Answer

My question is: If God is all powerful, can he create a boulder that even he can't pick up?

now as for my answer. Yes, God is all powerful. He can do anything he wants. However, the question is: Why woul dhe commit suicide? He isn't a living being... he doesn't have suicidal tendencies... he's not like that. That's against who God is. So why even ask it? Why couldn't God swim? God is most likely the type who likes to have fun. And about my question with the boulder... well, there's hundreds of answers to that. He could create something to pick up the boulder for him. He could do it because it is all-powerful.

(people, just vote for this rather than creating lots of new choices... I mean, vote for this if you're just going to make another choice that says: yes, he is. Just add a comment if you want to add to it or have an objection)

  • Wow... Complicated!

Hey everyone! I can hear there are a few Christians in here... well hey brother/sister to all of you and gods blessings to all in here...

there are alot of very theoretical thinkings described here... its great! also to learn alot of english! Anyway... I can recommend a book (besides the bible) its called: "A Heart Ablaze" by John Bevere... in one of the first Chapters he describes a version of how to calculate the greatness of God and by the time he wrote: by now I guess the Number is starting to get beyond your comprehension... and I was there already a page ago! Anyway... I just recommend to everyone that if you want to find out about God, who he is... what he does and why he does what he does... then MAN! ASK HIM! I mean... what can you lose? sit in your room... your alone... ask him: Hey God! Whats up? whats all this I hear about you? and what about your "World" you created? why does it suck so much? what ever you wanna ask him... he'll forgive you if you talk harsh to him... and as I said: what can you lose? tell him to give you a sign... and if he doesn't... then he doesn't... and if he does... then I (from my experience) congratulate you to a really cool friendship that lasts forever!

What can you lose? ... Go ahead...

PS: This might sound like a comment (and it said things like that don't belong here) but my point is: Life with God is Fucking easy! and to find that out you don't even have to have really big important words to spread... just casual ones... to God directly...

  • Perfection and Omnipotence Paradox

Perfection can beget imperfection. One can, for example, create something--quite easily--lesser than oneself.

On the subject of the Omnipotence Paradox, God could not create something to pick the boulder up for him; the purpose of the paradox in the first place is that by making a rock He couldn't lift he is creating an object beyond his power. This paradox would then apply not only to the rock, but to the being who eventually moves the rock.

  • definitions...

omnipotence is having as much power as possible in every possible way, not being able to do the impossible.

  • Can He?

"All things are possible with God...." God is all-powerful, by this Bible verse and others. The questions, "Can God commit suicide or swim or sin?" have an absolute answer: yes. God can indeed do anything. But why would God commit suicide? Honestly, ask yourself that. It is the same with sin. Why would God sin? God is holy. He is perfect, He is wise. He not only is all-powerful, but He is all-knowing as well. He knows what would happen to Him if He were to commit suicide. He knows what it would mean for Him to sin. We are His creation who were made lesser than Him and so we do not know. We do not need to know either. On the subject of the paradox issue, God /could/ create a boulder that He could not lift. And then He would lift it. How? We do not understand. We are inferior. In the words of Socrates, "We are dust in the wind." And could God create a being greater than Himself? Yes. And then He would display His power over him. Again, how? Again, we cannot know. "Your ways are not My ways, nor are your thoughts My thoughts."

  • What do you reckon?

Hmmm, well....I reckon he isn't all powerful, he created a world where he needs to perform 'miracles' to help people, and not everyone has faith in him, so doesn't that imply that this world is imperfect and that his created an imperfect world?

  • Is God Really?

Though theoretically speaking I place myself out of the subject of Gods existence. I truly could care less. As I am embarking on my own personal experiment. Through my philosophy it would be determined as; God: a being with ultra perfect tendencies. This being of the derivative force of Good and controller of one of the three great forces ([Light], Darkness, and Shadow). This being who through possibility of pertaining matters may have created this world. This being who was born after The Original War (Light and Darkness), is not the most powerful force in existence, as there were grander forms of existence before this creation. This being only being the only being with a form of controlled force and substance. This being would in essence of being a ultra-perfect being( Being who is characterized as having no physical form[as a physical body would be unable to contain such energy as would be produced from such a being]. Also this form of being would have emitions so great that all lower beings [humans and such] would be completely overwhelmed. A being to which the name Creator would be completely applicable, as this being would be capable of creating: all lower forms of existence [perfect, nearly perfect, semi-perfect, greater, and imperfect beings], planes of existence, and all abilities granted beings of lower status. This being however is not capable of all things [such as stabilizing {Ki-Chi} and establishing the Three Great Forces into the Trinity (Mind, Body, and Soul). (Reference- Book of ONE) Yes! And I finally get to the point of the subject. Not only would God not be all-powerful, but there are still two or three [depending on your perspective] levels of existence above God.

  • God is Just
WHATEVER god does, it would be right because whatever he wills is just. He COULD rape, steal, torture, etc.... ANd it would be JUST for him to do so (Because he made everything, and is the omnipotent, giving him the right to do so, but he doesn't because he is a loving God. And that kind of stuff wouldn't even cross his mind.

So no, it's impossible for God to "sin", but he can do anything, and it would be just.

  • Father of a child.
I think he could, but he wouldn't. I could certainly take the life of my child, but the mere thought of her being hurt brings immense grief to me. Big difference between could and would. As for death, death implies seizing existence. Seizing to exist would actually imply that God is not omnipotent, but that death is, not? Also, if one make rules and one has the ability (and the absolute will) to abide to those rules, it does not mean one cannot (break them), it only means one will not.
