My friend found herself crushing on a guy. She couldn't even say it though. I managed to get it out of her, through nods and smiles. But she has lived in a world of her own for most of her life, she has holed all emotion up inside of her, and is too scared to let it out. She knows that if she accepts that she likes him, she will start falling in love. Which would lead to putting everything she is into love. She has seen too many people destroyed by love. I am wondering why we deny love to ourselves in the first place? Why do we just not want to accept it? Or at least why are some people burdened with the thoughts of never wanting love, while others freely throw their hearts about?

first of all, no one is destroyed by love, just the lack of it, or the rejection. The main reaon people don't want to fall in love is because they figure if they don't have it, they can't lose it. If they put their heart on the line and get rejected, things could end up a lot worse then they were to begin with.
