Okay, I don’t believe in any kind of god because I only believe in what I actually see (what you see is what you get) and a religion to me is only to clarify things that human brains can’t comprehend (because even the smartest person in the world is too dumb—> e.g. where did it begin: surely not by a god if you ask me)
Now, MY QUESTION here is: I have seen so many times in american documentaries and stuff about religions that there are so many people that believe in god, but are gay. and then you have these ‘priests’ that cure you by laying there hands on you, and suddenly these gay people feel attracted to the ‘right’ sexes. Pure bullshit to me, cause no-one is able to change emotions and feelings. so WHY ARE GAY PEOPLE SEEN AS A DISEASE BY e.g. CHRISTIANS (as the pope claims that gays are sinners and yada yada) isn’t it so, that the bible says that you have to accept your fellow man, no matter what?
This question is not the reason why I don’t believe (as I said as introduction here) but I would like to hear the opinion of BELIEVERS and NON-BELIEVERS HERE.

What about priests then?
To say that it stops life from being created has some problems with Christianity: 1- According to Christianity, sex without marriage is sin (but it still produces life) 2- Priests are forbidden from sexual relations and marriage, so they can't produce children (thus giving them equivalent status of not being able to have children, so it should be "evil.") -

Religions are man-made, not God made. Christ did not come to create religions. He came to make disciples. To me religion is man’s futile attempt to reach God. I belive God already provided a door to reach Him through the person of Jesus Christ. Either way, a gay lifestyle is considered sin so most true religions do not support it.

okay, I can come in to the fact that 'being gay is a sin' but who takes the right to himselve to call me (I'm gay) a sinner in fact? why isn't it just possible for any religion to live together with everyone, without calling someone or something a sin? -

the funny thing is when it comes to homosexuality, it threatens the principles of religion. Christians indeed are notorious for being hypocritical and even worse, they fear what they do not understand. If you are different, you are bad. If you don’t follow the same plan as they do, you shouldn’t exist. Unfortunately, they come off as if they are loving and accepting and in the end, they shun the people they are supposed to love. The end of the world will not occur if people are lesbian, gay, bi, or transexual. The same goes if a certain race is bigger than the rest, the apocalyse is not going to happen just because of that. We need to learn to live and LET live and worry about our own damn selves instead of trying to point out flaws in others. There’s my two cents.

I am not sure how Christianity is any more notorious for hypocrisy than any other group people, religious or not. Could you please enlighten me? Furthermore, if one shuns someone they are supposed to love, then that person is not a true Christian, and an inconsistent follower to the faith. Christianity claims that all of us our sinners, and therefore while I personally regard homosexual acts as sinful, I dont view myself as above homosexuals, for I realize that I have sinned as well and am in no way better. I understand debates behind the morality of homosexuality, but asserting that Christians are intolerant for shunning homosexuals is based on a terrible misconception of what Christianity is. -

Not so sure I understand any of your points there Kazrith (apologies for taking so long to respond this is an old post). There are other ways of judging people certainly, but here I am clearly only addressing sin... What else would be relevant for this discussion? And as I tell everyone, Christianity itself has killed no one, but I would agree that people claiming to be Christians have killed many throughout history.

Even so... the comment you just made there would change nothing (even if we could somehow know it were true)-- once again you must discern between people that think they are doing God's will (and these alleged people must be very confused and must not have read the Bible) then quite frankly they were wrong. Being a Christian by definition is acting as a true follower of Christ. You simply cannot validly assert what you have tried to for reasons stated.

Im not really sure where your question is leading. Regarding those who "couldnt read", you must have a very specific group of people in mind or else you are simply closing the debate to your own terms. Why dont you simply let everyone know what class of people you are referring to who have committed atrocities, and precisely how you possibly could know what each member of this class was thinking when he/she did what he/she did. My initial challenge to you was, to restate it directly, to prove to me that you know for a fact that these people believed in their hearts that they were doing God's will without amendments. Even though Hitler at times, to stick with a historical example, claimed he was doing God's will and embraced the Church, he also condemned Christianity in more private circles calling it "an evil and sinister invention of the Jew". I will once again implore you to see the disctinction between those who claim to be doing God's will but know in their hearts that they are not and those who honestly and consciously believe that they are.

Germany was a very educated country during the Third Reich.... I would say an astronomically high percentage were literate and those who were not still had the information accessible to them. Those who genuinely are trying to be true Christians search for what that means more rigorously than those who hear a single testimony and accept it. You have an extremely optimistic view of humanity-- that everyone at all times does the right thing, one that I would strongly disagree with. I dont know a single person in my personal life that makes this claim for themselves. Im not sure how you could make such a universal claim even if you were using a certain body of evidence. People in Nazi Germany knew they were compromising something when they joined the Nazi party..... that is why it was so appealing..... it was an easy way out, not a right way out. This is why, after the war, even though a relatively small percentage of Nazi war criminals had been found, people that were interviewed flatly denied having any involvement. Those who admitted to being members of the Party showed a trend of admitting that they were wrong, some claiming they were forced into it. Once again I suggest that if you are to make this argument, you should isolate a certain class, time period and location of people that you believe acted wrongly in the name of Christianity rather than trying to generalize without really knowing who you are referring to. As for Hitler and the Germans of World War II, I strongly suggest you dont try to use them to defend your assertions.

Well if you are to relate it back to your initial argument you were also referring to certain acts in which it is not only helpful but essential for you to define (events in which people did what they thought was the will of God, taking actions that killed people). If regarding literacy itself you are truly considering the timeline you said you were, then I'm not so sure literacy would remain relevant. The initial assertion was that those who committed wrong acts believed they were doing right...... How can you know this was one of my several questions that went unanswered (unless you honestly are going to stand by the comment you made a couple posts back suggesting that all people do what they consider the right thing at all times). For such an argument you cannot really say that you are arguing from all time and from all locations or else you are being both lazy and self-defeating. I suggest to bolster your case, once again, that you either isolate actions taken by certain people at certain times or simply admit that this is a mere opinion of yours that you CHOOSE, not one that you discern from historical example.

I personally am an agnostic. For those of you who don’t know what this means, the basics are that I don’t believe in THE God or in organized religion. But on to my point. Most people are afraid of people who are different than they are. We as a people believe that whatever the masses are is the norm. Gays are different in that they are attracted to people of the same sex. For the normal heterosexual person, being hit on by someone in your same gender is quite odd.
In reply to the opinion ‘Homosexuality is a sin,’ I’m going to go back to the masses being ‘correct.’ Logically, we don’t know what is ‘correct.’ For all the human race knows, it’s the heteros who are the fucked up ones.
Also, why would anyone who isn’t rightly in an asylum choose to be gay? With all of the hell they catch, no one would choose to be gay. If anything, they would choose heterosexuality.

Homosexuality is a sin because it is illogical. IF everyone was homosexual then all of society would cease to exist… no new births would be. Unless we were in a clone society. But either way, the inability for two lovers to create a child is problematic for society. It’s not because God commands it. It is because it is illogical and so they attach the name “God says its wrong” so that people will not do it.
Remember that homosexuality is not genetic as some used to think, it is social. Homosexuality forms from social situations and social stigmas, not from any natural disposition. Homosexuality can only arise out of our society in a situation where there are large numbers of births. Thus it is impossible for everyone to be homosexual.
Homosexuality serves no purpose. I am not disagreeing with its existence but why would anyone choose such an existence? If it is a social problem as I have suggested then how do we correct it?

okay, since I'm gay I wanted to know why I had these feelings... after plenty of research I always found out that it is in a transformed gene, so I do remind you that it is something genetic. it has nothing to do with society... As I was a little boy, and didn't have a clue about love, I always had more friends that were a girl. so obviously, as a boy preferring to play with a girl, if you think in this social way, you think I would f*ck all the girls I come along... wrong again... they don't attract me. I also want to correct your word of 'choosing'. If I could 'choose' my sexual preference, why the hell should I 'choose' for all this crap in my life, all this conservative people that are talking shit about me, why would I risk to be throwned out by my parents, in short: why would anyone ever choose a difficult path when it can be easy? I'm not stupid you know, I'm just a simple person like you are with feelings... and because of my feelings are other than someone elses, it doesn't make me having no purpose or getting no rights to live... Three cases of Homosexuality beginnings
I know of three cases of Homosexuality from earliest beginnings. I'd like to share how I witnessed it's development. I was about 8 years of age and the neighbor boy in this case was about 5 or 6. He, an only child, had two devoted parents, but what I witnessed beneath the facade, so to speak, of these two parents I'll never forget. I was so sickened with sadness for this boy that it came a time when I'd never go to there house again. To this day I think of him and wonder how he is. The father, a talented carpenter, and I think a military man, had built the most wonderful tree house for his son. The mother was a gorgeous sweet women. This is what I call the facade. I happen to witness the parents interaction to their adorable son on a few occasions. I'll give you one instance. The father came home, I had been enjoying the tour of the boys tree house. The father yelled at the boy when he came home from work because he hadn't completed his chores. One was to spite shine his father's shoes and polish the sterling silver to "perfection." He took him into the house. I don't know what happened but the boy returned outside, tears in his eyes, and with his father's shoes and polishing kit. The boy apologized. I said, "I'm sorry." And he said, "It's okay, but you better leave." The mother remained quiet as I saw her look out the window. I felt so guilty that I may have caused his punishment. To sum up, as this is just one instance, what I observed and by the father's actions and words was that he was going to make a man out of his son. The mother wasn't allowed to kiss or pamper the boy for fear he'd become a sissy. Consequently, the boy in my mind felt unloved and afraid of his father. I saw the father affectionately kiss his wife he obviously adored and the son look like a child alone. Such loneliness appeared in his eyes. My thought was if the child were a women perhaps his father would show affection and love him. And if the mother would show affection to her son, her son would at least feel loved and needed by someone. Anyway, long story short, I think he wanted to be like his mother in order to feel loved by the father he loved so much. He grew up to become gay. I don't think their was anything inherent here. I saw the normal boy who was not effeminent turn gay. The same story, I witnessed in my nephew-in-law. Not only perpetrated by his father before he died but also by my husbands father. I remember my husband's father try the same tactics with my son. Also, he and his wife made fun of my affections I shared with my son and told me he'd turn out gay; that it wasn't right for me to hug and kiss my son. Gosh, this struck me as so odd. I wasn't making-out with my son for heaven's sake. I even suppose that had I not met my husband at 15 years of age my husband may also have turned out gay. The family history is there. No affection from mom, husband's sister is shown all the affection by mom and dad and my husband shown none and expected to become the man. They demanded perfection of work from my husband as child. He two had to get down on his hands and knees every month and polish the hard wood floors and etc. Don't get me wrong about work chores, and to learn to do things well is great training, but you combine this with no affection. . . well you tell me. My son, by the way, is straight and more a man then my father-in-law would ever admit to as he was so certain my affections would turn him gay. To this day he is so frustrated that he never had control of my son; so much so that he treats him as though his someone else’s child and not related. Back to my nephew, I believe he has been driven to the homosexual life style as I saw its development from the time he was 5 years of age in much the same way as the boy above. The pattern was exactly the same. In the father's attempts to make a man out of the son, his stupid actions, I seriously believe, drew the son away from wanting to become this so called man. So, sickening is the attitude I witnessed, I can't even begin to describe this monster of a father and added with his grandfather on mother's side(my husband's side). I've also observed that these fathers are so full of themselves that their son's could never even if they tried reach the father's level of satisfaction; end of story. To this day my husband, from nothing, built a successful corporation, he's 57, and has never received on note of recognition or "Good job son. I'm proud of you," from his father. I think his father is jealous, egotistical and, at the same time completely unaware of himself. He hates me I think, because I have my husbands full and undivided attention as well as my son's love and affection. BTW, my son is married to a wonderful women and has four adorable children, successful as well on his own accord. As for the lesbian. Take everything in reverse. Only the mother wanted her daughter to be a tom-boy and always dressed her in boy clothes. Made fun of her in girly clothes. And the father in this case was a drunk and druggie welfare-worker and showed no interest in his daughter. I happen to believe that it is through the father's love that a girl learns how to best relate with men. Hence, a young women falls in love with a man much like her father. The same can be said for the mother to her son. My son and this girl shared a great childhood together. I know she'd not hesitate at the opportunity to marry my son. Consequently, after so many male rejections she is now a lesbian. I know in spite of it all she's still madly in love my son. I've also witnessed homosexuality turned straight, but I won't go into this here. Just wanted to share some of my real life observations. As for truth I've spoken of this on another post. It's interesting that truth needs no qualification or justification. Truth simply is and one truth is for certain. If you engage in out of marriage sex you will contact venereal diseases. Not so with a married man and women committed to one another. -

Wow you people invent a lot to deny something that simply doesn't include you. I've lived in the Middle East as well (Saudi Arabia where segrigation of the sexes is at one of the worst extremes) and yes being deprived of contact with each other did lead to a larger amount of homosexual activity than usual. But what you're talking about is pedophile. Homosexuals are NOT pedophiles. There can be Homosexual pedophiles, but there are also Heterosexual pedophiles. Stop twisting consenting love of two people into child rape. And when they say it may be in the genes, it's like most genes in that it doesn't show up every single offspring. For example neither of my parents have blue eyes, but my little sisters are the purest blue you've ever seen. Go back in our ancestory a little and you can find more blue eyes though, it's a recessive gene. It pops up every now and then. And I don't believe that homosexuality is only genetic either, I think that may be a factor, but like you were saying life experiences can change things, it's a mixture of the "Nature vs Nurture" theory. Humans are one of the only two creatures on earth (the other being dolphins) that have sex for pleasure as well as reproduction. This is where a theory that the norm for human sexuality is bisexuality. Yes we have sex with the opposite sex for reproduction, normal, and we have pleasure in it, abnormal of all other species (exempting those dolphins) but sex is for humans used for pleasure too, which makes things different. So with all the people we're no where near extinction, what does it hurt if some people only have sex for pleasure? Of course you can also find homosexuality in animals (other than dolphins though I'm sure they have some too) so this is clearly a very deep subject. But it is also clear that homosexuality is neither harmful nor wicked. If throughout their life a woman is raped repeatedly and gains a phobia of men, her not reproducing will not destroy the world, but why deny her sexual gratification? If she can have pleasure with women why the hell not? It's not hurting you leave her alone. Same with a male, it they're happy with it leave it be. The only religions that claim homosexuality to be wrong are your "heavenly" religions, and even some of those sects don't care. I'm sorry if the entire world doesn't want to live by your religions world, there's something called religions tolerance and freedom that kinda frowns on that. If your relgions does not like homosexuality for some reason fine, no ones gonna make you be a homosexual. But what about religions that frown on certain skin colors? Should they be allowed to ban people from things because of their skin color? No. If you don't want to participate don't, but leave everyone else alone. Your prejeduce is disgusting, it's just like back in slave times in the States when they tried to justify the racism against Africans by saying they wern't intelectually superior. It's really quite closed minded. Perhaps you should try going to a GSA of some sort. Though I don't agree at all with much of Christianitys teachings I go to Church with a good friend often for fun, to support her and show I'm not prejeduce, and to learn about something I know I could never be a part of but respect. And in return she comes to my highschools GSA (Gay and Straight Alliance)meetings, though she stays true to her beliefs and thinks homosexuality is not right, she has fun with the people in it and never tries to scold them or anything, just has fun and is often shocked by how other so called Christians are so violent against us. Though she and I often have friendly debates on the subject and many more, we are both respecting of each others opinions and are not violent even if we strongly disagree. If more people could be like that the world would be much better. -

Look, homeosexuality might be wrong in religion. That doesn't mean that everyone in religions has to be against homosexuality, or that it's wrong. I'm sure as Hell for it...First of all, God created people that way. You may say that it's aroused by social experiences, but not really. We're born with preferences and talents and disabilities. Sexuality is a preference. While it's not really noticable in the younger years, eventually, yes, it is aroused, but they're born like that, not necessarily because of genetics. PLUS, it's a preference--not every girl's interested in a guy (and vice versa). So why waste life going after sex that, while it could possibly provide more people in this world, wouldn't be pleasureful? Why bother? Life is supposed to be about pleasure. That's poseur-ish if someone goes after something they're totally not. Plus, it gets no rewards. Okay, that's just my take on the whole situation here. -

first of all, how can homosexuality be a sin. sins do not exist. there is no god. nothing you say that has any slight connection to the concept of god as a real thing could ever possibly be relevant. until you realize that definite morality cannot exist in such a complex and random universe, nothing you say on the subject of morality means anything. Secondly, if humans were to cease reproduction and fade out of existense, everything in the entire universe would be much better. as individuals, I dont mind us humans so much. as a mass, I hate our entire race. Third of all, whether or not people choose to be gay is irrelevant. It still has nothing to do with morality. its all about what makes blood pump into your penis or clitoris. this is not something that can or should be altered. If you don't like gay people, go to a planet that is devoid of them, because the future is unstoppable and gay people will someday be accepted like everyone else, it is completely inevitable. I myself am straight, but I have an extremely close friend who is gay and he is a great person. So, in conclusion, fuck homophobes.

I find it fascinating how people make up theories about the origins of homosexuality. Does it matter? Being the straight male that I am, does anyone bother to look up why I am straight and not gay? Being gay has only one real probleme, the pople who can't accept it.
