I would like to say that homeworks given by the schools or other institutions are not helping students to learn more. Studying materialistic books may help rather than doing those bragging HWs.

hw gives an unfair advantage to some because they are willing to do it. those of us who understand the material and just don' want to take the time to do it are at a serious disadvantage besides the fact that it is pointless to do it if we already know it by studying books...

BS Classesanyone every forced to take a bull shit class??? In NY state you are required to take a government class and an economics class. the Economics class is a good idea and simple enough. how ever the Government class is just so ridiculous i have not learned a damned thing from it and if i do not pass i do not graduate. Anyone else dis agree with this law of stupidity. it only hurts those that can't follow the busy work of a teacher that does nothing but sit at his desk and get pissy when the class doesn't do his stupid work and threatens to dump more on them.Voted for by Sorrows Angel.

HW is used as a shield against studies..Voted for by Championswimmer.
As you are knowning from the heading what is my opinion I'd like to say that many children use the excuse of HW to run away from studies. I'm currently in the 6th grade and somtimes do that myself to avoid some maths given by father. He explained to me the other day that these HW are actually left overs of chapters taught by your teachers and are useless. Now I do understand that projects 'n HWs are useless. We shoul rather pay attention to materialistic academics.

What is up with all this school bashing?!Almost every post I click on has school bashing included. Yeah school generally sucks but you eventually graduate so toughen up. Its not nearly as difficult as people are making it. I know, I was there. I hated it just as much. In fact I barely ever did my homework. I either copied or didnt turn it in. Most times the homework wasnt worth any points so it didnt really make a difference to me.Voted for by Stepherz804.
Homework is for reinforceing the material you learned in class. Instead of having the teacher to fall back on you are then forced to figure it out on your own, thus learning. Its a good thing even though I still hate it and Im in college. But just like fruits and veggies I know its good for me so I suck it up and do it.
Its not a punishment. Its not a death sentence. So just deal with it.

So homework dividing the diligent and the lazy a logical but misplaced statement. and the next time you feel like trying to degrade a 6th graders self worth think twice please, you could cause some serious psychological disorders by just plowing through with out tact or regard to the poster's emotional and mental state.

I too
Suffer from a very bad case of ADHD in which I am still being medicated heavily for as an adult, and yet I still disagree with you. True, homework isn't a cure it all, learn everything tool. True, I absolutely hated homework and thought it was the devil incarnate. True, it causes a lot of distress, but it also does incite a sense of responsibility, particularly in kids whose parents find it hard to instruct their children. I know it doesn't always work and can cause problems, but usually, it will only cause severe problems in students, usually, that have pre-existing problems of other sorts that affect many facets of life, not just education - either by their attitude or ability (functionality) to respond to homework education. For those it doesn't work for there needs to be additional help and facilitation to these students' needs, but otherwise, for the majority, homework is a measly, but standard, beneficiary tool.Molzahn

We should all come to understanding on our own terms
Like Craven said homework enables us to recollect on the days teachings, if you have a incompatible teacher, the studies will be practically meaningless to you. For instance, all throughout my highschool career I would have teacher after teacher who would tell the class to "find it out your own way" so I did just that, making all sorts of bizarre (yet logical) connections no one recognized right away. I have had stacks of tests where all of the answers were correct but (for example) my teacher didn't understand that I was using the vertex of a equation to indicate a maximum value of a function in a math class. I showed that work to a couple other teachers (including my uncle, a nuclear physicist) and they all agreed with my methodology, but I failed to receive marks because it did not correspond to the 'methods the curriculum taught'. How much of a curriculum is cut and paste and how much is it based on intuitive understanding? If the teacher does not understand that you understand how far can you get? No where. So what if you understand the question and its answer but do not recognize a teachers wonky way of solving it? And vice versa. What about these students that don't understand the work but follow the curricular method... never finding an answer, never actually learning anything, except how to follow a lemming off a cliff. If you understand the work, homework is meaningless. If you don't understand the teachers methodology, homework does not help at all.
