Human nature, defining life and a stance at sanity...Voted for by kai-kat16.
There are some things that run deeper than friends and family. Some things, that, defying all odds, express us in a deeper magnitude then just how we think or feel. Those genetic differences, the traits passed on that build you as you and them as them, the one thing that can make you different, and at some cost, the same as well. The good things and the bad, the happy and the sad, the friendly and the traitorous kind of things run deep. You can love someone and still not like them. You can hate someone and still like them. So, what is the point in hate or love? Its all part of the traitorous things that go on inside of our minds. We don't know for sure whether or not to trust others, because the real question is, are WE trusting OURSELVES? We ask friends for advice to go by, but don't always follow their advice because we don't like the way it sounds. So what is the point in asking them for advice to begin with if we can already make that decision that its not a good enough answer or response? Is it the feeling that someone will take the time out of their day to try and help you that we like? Or is it the sudden rebel-like attitude that most people have developed over the years? We go against what people say, not because we WANT to, because we feel we NEED to. It is a way of life that has defined us since the early days. How we turn out in life is based on going through that stage... some people just never get over it and in turn, are criticized for something that we all go through at some point in time. So if we've already found a way to define ourselves as people, as human beings, how do we define life in general?
Darwin wrote his Origin of Species many years ago, defining his stance on life. Developing and proving theories of evolution and natural selection despite public and church criticism on the subject. Even with a theory and so much proof of its existence, to this day, people still degrade the truth. We have sunken so far as to believe in artificial beings as being higher powers and watching over us, rather than seeing what is physically right in front of us. Instead of thanking the person who caught you from a terrible fall, you go to church the next day and confess your sins as one who (all of a sudden) feels compelled to do so. So where are we really going in this world? What is really happening? and why do we feel so compelled to defy proven theories even if they have more basis and evidence behind them than what we actually believe in? Were Adam and Eve bacteria in the primordial soup theory rather than people? Seeing as we evolved from the first basic molecules and organic substances, it would only be fair to say that we, the people, are a large epidemic invading the Earth and taking over its natural resources for our own vanity, destroying endangered species and ourselves as we go...

I believe that Kurt Vonnegut put definiton of life best in his book "Breakfast of Champions". In his book he said that life is...
Being the eyes and ears and conscious of the creator of the universe

What Drives UsVoted for by to-each-his-own.
Again, I should introduce myself as a new member. My name's Nick. Anyway...
Life, in my opinion, is like building a house. Not only do I think it's completely personal, but I think that you can make and break your own architecture. I.e., the more you negate yourself and lie to yourself and don't read your own "instruction manual" (so to speak), then things can get misplaced or misshaped and not at all the result you intend. Since each house is individually crafted in this metaphor, the quality and quantity of your work is in the eye of the beholder: "One man's virtue is another man's poison" is how Walter Kaufmann put it, I believe. So we can assume from this that if, metaphorically speaking, someone doesn't recognize the imperfection of his own home, he may think that everybody elses house should look and feel that way as well. This is one of life's biggest plot holes: modesty. I could ramble on for hours, but to put it quite simply, "Summer is what you make it."

Human BehaviourYou say people who believe in something that contradicts the facts are fools. Sometimes believing in something that contradicts the facts but gives you all the answers is more satisfying to one's existence than believing all the facts and being left with all the unanswerable questions. So if I were to tally the number of question marks in your statement I would probably have to say you are non-religious.Voted for by BruiserMadden.
So am I, don't worry.
Humanity an epidemic? Surely not! Humanity may also be a blessing.
Sometimes it is necessary for a destructive species to weed out the weak links in the chain of evolution, and once they have accomplished that, to activate the self-destruct trigger and leave the environment stronger, healthier, and more resilient than it was before.
We're just a filter in the evolution of life. A mechanism designed to kill the weak, and strengthen the strong, before terminating our contract and leaving.
What is the true value of endangered species, of extinct animals, of preserving nature? Nostalgia? hmm?
The reason why I argue that we should not be environmentalists, why we should leave as big a mark on the earth as we can, why we shouldn't carbon count and why we shouldn't stop the ice melting is because it is the only way that the terrible reign of human beings can end sooner.
The sooner we exterminate ourselves, the sooner nature can move on, the better off evolution is.
Of course, if i truely cared about the fate of our species, I would equally argue that we should be doing everything we can to minimise our impact on the environment.
But who can care about a species which is so corrupt, so destructive, and so terrible? Not me. Let them get what's coming to them. Nature made them that way.
Or perhaps these are just incoherent ramblings of a madman.
