Why when people find someone who disagrees with them on an issue, they feel the need to defend how they see it? Religion is the worst for this...every religion i no thinks another religion is bad or wrong... why cant we all just believe what we want, and apply it how we want to??

why? because we have them21% Voted for by NeferMaatNetjer, violet raven, Energizer Bunny.
why do people put their opinions on everything? simple; because we have opinions, that's why! If we didn't, we would have no more souls than drone bees.

Because most people feel they know what is best and what they believe is true, and with religion it has no flexibility, what is written is how it is, there is no argument.

People are Social14% Voted for by A Dreamer Awake, Frank E Gibbard.
We share, we talk, we make friends and enemies. This is our nature. Being social is part of our lives. What would we talk about if not opinions. A relationship is what we build in these social ties. In a relationship, you care what people think about you and what they think, because you are close. From this, we begin to care what other people think, because we understand that other people can make as much of an impact on the world as we can, and we want to learn from them and teach them what we know. What's wrong with caring about something?

MY TAKE14% Voted for by a woman to love, Katztuff.
INTERESTING QUERY,I BELIEVE THAT AS HUMAN BEINGS THE MAIN THING THAT ELEVATES US OVER THE REST OF CREATION IS OUR REASONING. WE THINK THAT IS WHAT WERE SUPPOSED TO DO. SOME OF US DO SO LOGICALLY, SOME OTHERS I WON'T EVEN MENTION......... IN ESSENCE WE ARE SUPPOSE TO THINK AND FORM OPINIONS.

Only HumanVoted for by A Dream in Crisis.
I think a lot of opinionated thoughts come straight from our subconscious or history. People are raised on one supposedly 'ideal' theory or basis, and it's something they care for. So, they'll defend it. Could be too that we have some sort of strive for perfection, or we're afraid to accept anything other than what we took comfort in as children. Think about it. It's a scary and intimidating thing to first come in contact with doubt on your Religion, or the question of "What If" no one's really up there. (Just as an example.) I know how (at a lack of a better word) terrifying it can be to see something suddenly be so unclear to you. I chose to change my outlook however, and that particular topic's gotten easier on the mind.
All in all, I guess it comes down to we're only human after it's all said and done. It's hard for us to imagine the repetition of death, and we strive for security. Without that, hardly anything else matters. Gahh.. now I sound like Abraham Maslow. ^^ Either way, the only way we'll know the truth (or maybe not) is to live and let live, harm none, and help each other hand in hand until the end. If we end up burning in Hell, at least we know something exists by then. If there really is Gaia (or nothing) after Death, like the poem "Thanatopsis", well.. we probably won't know the difference anyway. Live while you can, and accept those who aren't like you. In the world we live in, that's hardly the issue anyway.

to say somethingVoted for by ohsweetie2788.
when i read something that i don't believe i say something normally just to say something so others who aren't sure of what to believe have another choice besides the one they had just heard.

My reason.Voted for by EternalEyes.
The reason I put my opinion down is to see how others react to it. Also, adding my opinion to the collection broadens horizons and makes more possibilities. We aren't forcing people to view this site, and we aren't forcing people to believe what we want to. But if we believe in something and we want people to know, I think all of us have the right to state our personal opinions on here.
Another reason - this site can be very educational on how people think and react.
