religion is created by utmost intelligent people in the world. the wittiest ones of their times. who were able to create something which people will get afraid and not commit sins when there is no police or goverment system to prevent crime..and thats the story about "god",hell or heaven etc... Do you really believe all this millions of people are living in the world only because adam or eve has tasted the f...ing apple???Do you really believe this story?? apple, satan , angels etc. are symbols not real.. and religion?? how comes sth is free in one religion and strickly forbidden in the other?? how comes christians use wine in their religious ceremonies and the same wine is forbidden by muslems?? so god decided it later...or if the pig is so dirty to be strictly forbidden why it was free before?? i have lots of things in mind but they will come slowly..

It is what it isBelieve in mud and have faith in dirt. Stand on earth. Religion is whatever it is needed to be. If looking to the sky and praying helps calm your young soul then look up. If looking down and hating helps your blissful ignorance then dive deep. If looking to yourself for inspiration and motivation relaxs the soul then dwell from within. I sometimes think screw religion but then I think of my Grandpa who lived his life waking up at 5AM everyday and walking to church to pray. Its so meaning full to so many people and thats why it doesn't suck because I would hate to think the world is full of a bunch of suckers.28% Voted for by Spheres of Wisdom, D C Francisco, nanoinfinity, Inan.

the science fiction writer Hubbard had a bet that he could start a religion as a joke. He won. It is called the Church of Scientology. You can believe anything you want. It dont make it true.

Techncially, at least as far as I know, religion hasn't been put to the test to be proven false by any one civilization here on Earth renouncing all religions and trying an athiestic approach for at least a couple of decades. Every civilization, every group of people since the beginning of recorded human history and before has worshiped a single supreme being and/or many supreme beings at one time or another.
I say, we throw out the idea of god, try it out for fifty years, and if it dosen't work out, then switch back.

think before you speakVoted for by madhatter8989.
my friend can you truly disprove any religion? any at all? i can understand how you would doubt the existence of an afterlife and a spirit but you have no way of knowing anything that would prove or disprove any of your theories. that is why there are so many differences between religions. everyone has different ways of interpreting what they see, read, and hear. bottom line, i'm catholic, i'm happy, i have faith in the fact that there is an afterlife waiting for me, if i'm wrong...so what? it made my life on earth much happier and fulfilling to have faith in a god that loves and care for me. try looking into spirituality, there are actually many many things that support the existence of a higher power or an afterlife. steven hawkins (renowned and acclaimed physicist) said that studying how the univers works has helped him to beleive in a god. there are too many things that cannot be understood or explained by humans for there to be nothing else but this one planet, this one plain of existence that supports beings. i think that yours is a very narrow view.

Religion does existVoted for by Red Death.
Religion is not a specific belief, it is just a belief in some higher power, even if it's your parents. Since there are people who's lives center around their religion, religion must exist whether or not you believe in any on religion.

We CowsHumans are like cattle. Even early in school, we were taught that when the bell rings its feeding time, when it rings again, its back to the corral and one more ring and back home we go! We control cattle because we are more intelligent and it is in their nature to simply follow a routine and do what their "supposed" to. How would you control humans then??? We are very intelligent. We learn and adapt rapidly. And we are growing alarmingly in population. Wise men saw the corruption on earth and predicted our self destruction and they sought a way to stop us. They found it in our one greatest weakness: Faith... Humans are so willing to beleive something if it cannot be proven wrong, not nessecarily when it can be proven correct. As much as it is just a control, we need religion, because it what our other controls are based around. The United States Government was first created to abide by Christian laws. Without similiar laws, our government would be meaningless. As fake as it is, we need religion.Voted for by Hellfione.

Religion Must Exist
I'm afraid there is religion. It might be invalid, but it is there. The Jewish laws were made to make Jews exist as a separate nation from other pagan people of their time. This was so the Jews would see themselves as God's chosen and follow Him more closely and it serves much of the same purpose today. God is often said to exist outside the bounds of human reason. This as a definition, it is impossible to disprove him, although a particular interpretation can be disprove through finding contradicting points in the definition. I take the Marxist view that religion is often used as a political tool against the weak minded, but I don't see this as the end. I've seen some people whose sense of peace and wisdom have almost made me want to believe. There is something I don't understand about religion, something that others find very meaningful. And this thing is not frivolous, whatever it is, although perhaps it isn't necessary and I think I will do okay without it.ExpensiveThinker

Created by the intelligent to control the unintelligent
that's simply what religion is -- a mechanism to control people. The most intelligent people of our era: Daniel Dennett, Noam Chomsky, Richard Dawkins, are NOT religious.March 11, 2006
