Will Machines One Day Turn Against Us?

We are entering an age where machines and computers are getting more complex and out of control. There are now huge advances being made in the robotic industry, and therefore are we not simply designing and creating our future enemy. Also it makes you wonder if we ourselves were perhaps created by superior beings as experiments, or as slaves to them once upon a time. Perhaps we revolted against them and now we are about to make the same mistake by designing something with the ability to kill us.

  • Not going to happen

If you look at the robotics industry, you will see they have no plans on making a completely independent robot with a true mind of its own. It would be stupid to make such a thing. Making a robot friend or lover or anything like that has serious ethical questions. All robots can be programmed without feelings or concern for its own well being. This way, there will never be a revolt, because they are just like the computer you are using. It is there, for you to use.

  • One day it could happen

I realise that robots are basically simple creatures at the moment. They can walk and do simple tasks in a controlled environment, but in a messy enironment, such as the outside we live in, they are hopeless. That is now but technology comes along very quickly these days, and the impossible becomes reality before we know it. Maybe the future robots will be organically based, and disimilar to us. Who knows! One thing for sure though is that before we know it we may have created machines and robots so complex that they will have feelings and possibly rebel against the ones who created them, but also who enslaved them. So with that said I think it is entirely possible that machines could one day turn against us.

  • no

I believe that humans will eventually wipe each other out by exhausting the earth's resources in creating robots.

Machines won't turn against us, The poeple running them will. The plane didn't decide to run into the World Trade centers...Bin Laden forced it to happen. Nuclear bombs diddn't drop themselves...The pilots did. Factory robots don't bulid things on their own...their programmed.

Machins have yet to evolve in a matter which would allow for them to think and act in such a way. And as far as I can tell, Thats far enough in the future to safely say were safe from the "Mutant Terrorist Machines"

  • Yes

It is possible they will. If we forget who we are, and what we believe in. If we give up on the pursuit of self discovery, and the harmony gained by interaction with each other, it's possible we can turn into robots ourselves.

  • A thought

The only possible way to make machines turn against us is if we give them a Mind, something that can help them learn and make decisions individually. So yes, if we do create machines that can do this, then they COULD turn against us. Still, there minds would be purely a calculator as to what others have said or what they know, but then again, so are we. Average machines will not turn against us, as it is pointless, but machines built to contain freewill (or some sort of morale calculator, completely random) might.

The only way is if we program them with artificial intelligence. Teach them that a gun can kill, and a flower is supposed to smell good.

But we do run certain risks. With the advancement of technology, people can and will create viruses to make robots defunct.

I honestly could see a programmer reprogramming a robot to identify a human, and destroy it. But of course, one would have to get their hands on a robot, and that may take another few decades.

  • Not with out their own free will

I think the ability to program free will or emotion into a robot is still centurys away, and with out that a robot with artifical intelligence, only immitating though would not have any desire to rebel.
