Alternative medicine.

The idea of people switching over from conventional medicine to alternative medicine is frightening. Hardly anything involving alternative medicine is tested adequatly. As a medical student it concerns me that people have displaced so much of their trust in licensed physicians who have graduated from medical school with people who are really just out to make a quick dollar. When put to the test, herbal remedies are almost always proven useless or ineffective. Alternative medicine works, at best, as a placebo and nothing more.

  • tested over millenia

herbal medicine has been tested over millenia- not by scientists, but by trial and error. herbalists don't just pick a random plant and give it to people- remedies have been passed down for generations- that way only the stuff that works gets kept.

only now is modern medicine starting to recognise the benefits herbal medicines can have - st johns wort was hailed as the new miracle cure not so long ago, used for all sorts of ailments. as you probably know, the active ingredient of aspirin is found in willow bark, which has been used for pain relief- well, who knows how long. when you think that our long-ago ancestors had to rely on plants for everything it makes sense. how could they not have recognised that some seemed to have medicinal affects?

my view is that herbal medicines might not be as strong and immediately affective as conventional medicines, but are more gentle and better for you in the long-term, with less side affects. i myself dabble in herbalism a bit (only on myself! lol) and haven't been to the doctors since i had chicken pox aged 4 (don't even know my doctor's name). And i'm vegetarian.

  • alternative medecine

it is what you believe i guess... i prefer to use herbs and alternative remedies... i use homeopathics too but used to think that they were merely placebos... (incidently if the malaise is psycologically caused then the cure is a placebo)... until my doctor explained to me how they work... since then i have used them and appreciate their effect, i wonder what homeopathic uranium would do to radiation sickness.. we usually react negatively to something we don't understand, it is a natural critical faculty but there is no reason to be too obdurate about these things... surely if your body tells you that herbs ain't gonna do it for what you got then there might just be a strong argument for trying something else... i do not believe in testing pharmacueticals on animals. straight from nature with care and observance is best... my grandmother tells a story about one of my great grand mother's friends who used to go into the bush (australia) and pick greens that she thought were edible and when she died apparently they found a cancer the size of an orange that had completely healed in her stomach... the doctors were wild to know what she ate but no-one could say because she would just wander around by herself testing and tasting... i figure she knew what her body was saying to herself.

  • Really cool.

a placebo is really cool for the amazing things it can do with out acutually doin anything by itself.

Its like putting foundation of faith for a better state of something needed. Its hope and it works but you dont need a pill to tell you it. I agree with you completely.

  • Modern Medicine and Doctor's Can't Be Trusted
While there are certainly benefits to conventional medicine, I think the industry as a whole puts profits ahead of people's health.

The pharmaceutical industry practically runs the medical industry. Rather than find real cures to diseases and prevent diseases all together, the FDA works hand-in-hand with the pharmaceutical industry to make sure we eat crappy food and use unsafe cosmetics and other products to make us sick, so that we can stay addicted to prescription drugs, which basically treat symptoms and never provide real cures.

The cancer industry is a sham. There are many natural alternative cures that cannot be legally advertised in this country or practiced by licensed physicians. Look up "Hoxsey" on google video or "The Politics of Cancer" or "Royal Raymond Rife" or "Hulda Clark".

People who find real cures to cancer are stopped from practicing and their remedies are made illegal so that the profits from the cancer industry can be preserved for ever more.

The War on Cancer is nothing more than legalized murder. It's a sad state of affairs. This is why people no longer trust the medical industry and the establishment. It's all about profits through drugs and surgery before anything else, including preventive medicine, safer natural remedies, and real cures rather than pills that treat symptoms for life. In the case of treating cancer, they've made practically no progress in 40 years. People still die like flies and they still use chemotherapy (WWII mustard gas technology) to treat cancer. They've made no progress in treating cancer and made real cures illegal and squashed them.

If it wasn't for the greatness of the Internet to quickly and easily share information and opinions, the monied interests would continue to have a complete stranglehold on media outlets, our government, and our educational system, and we would continue to be force-fed their lies so they could continue their stranglehold on our health in order to make the rich richer and the poor poorer at the expense of the quality of our health and our very lives.

Question authority. Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely. Don't worship the white-coated Gods. Don't let dentists put silver-amalgam (50% mercury fillings) in your mouth either. The EPA makes doctors dispose of extracted fillings as toxic waste, but somehow it's ok to put it in our mouths. Outrageous!

  • About "Conventional Medicine"
First of all, the FDA is horrible with telling people what is "safe and effective" for them. Many medicines kill people, and have very dangerous side affects. The government pimps out the people to "Big Pharma", and now they are trying to pass laws that would require you to get a PRESCRIPTION TO GET VITAMINS. The only reason herbal medicine is smeared by pratically everyone is because IT'S CHEAP, NATURAL, and HAS NO SIDE EFFECTS. Now if everybody actually knew this, "Big Pharma" would lose some of the billions and billions of dollars they make every year for putting dangerous drugs into us.

Examples off the top of my head:

I know of a mother who was thrown in jail and lost both of her children for curing her son's melanoma(she used holistic and herbal remedies). To date doctors are refusing to believe that the cancer is gone completely(contrary to many tests) and are still forcing him into 'conventional' treatment.

I also know of a herbal supplement shop that the FDA just shut down because they found a safe, natural, cheap way to treat one of their customer's diabetes.

One more: Merck is trying to make it MANDATORY for young BOYS to get the "CERVICAL CANCER VACCINE"

This stuff happens all of the time.

My point is: Money talks. When you are running a multi-billion dollar industry, you can bring anyone to their knees.
