Age Difference and Statutory Rape

What’s a permitable age diffenence when it comes to love? Are Statutory Rape laws really fair?

  • What's Love got to do?

You can’t “rape” the willing. Rape is rape, voluntary sex…is sex. There should be nothing in this concept that has to do with age. The only reason we have Staturoy Rape, is because some mom got mad that her daughter had sex, so she charged the dude with rape…

you can not determine an age at which people fall in love and understand it, you can not determine an age at which a person understand what they are doing, trust me we know what we are doing when we do it, we think about it enough. yes it is ridiculous when a 12 year old is going out with a 30 year old but when a 16 year old or even 15 year old is dating an 18 year old, by that age we should be able to decide for ourselves what we want to do…just my opinion though!

  • It does seem arbitrary but...

...it protects the health of youngsters. A twelve year old is much more likely to die delivering a normal 7-pound baby than a 35 year old. That’s not to say that all 35 year old women can safely punch out a 7-pound baby, but the law can’t be dictated on a case by case basis… there has to be some generalities. The baby-making process should not be practiced until the potential mother is in a position to support a baby. Since we have child labor laws on the books, it only makes sense that we don’t encourage children to have babies before they can work to support it/them. All this begs the question—should a 29 year old perv be able to legally have sex with a 14 year old if he is willing to support her and any offspring? That sounds bad, but I am married to a woman 15 years my senior… she robbed my cradle! (I was actually 35 when we married ten years ago) but I often wonder—how far back should we have been able to have had relations considering we are happily married now?

  • Yes they are

Generally children under 12 don’t have sexual feelings (generally) and if so I think if they MUST (which isn’t true) have sex they should do it with other kids. Perverts who pretend kids are interested in them should be arrested. Sex has a language which is easy to understand if you’re accustomed to it, but most kids aren’t. They could take flirting really innocently and then get hurt.

Age is more than just a number. The statutory rape law was put into place to stop pedophiles from harming young kids.

  • Eh

It’s really more of a judgement call, case by case I guess. After about 18 though, I think you can go out with/do it with/marry whoever you want.

  • Age Is Not Related to Rape

I’m 17 and I’ve slept with guys way older than me, but I never thought “oh he loves me” that’s not what I wanted. If a girl thinks sex and love are connected she already has a problem no matter what age she is or the guys she is with, which is why I think statutory rape is just one of those laws people can use to their advantage. P.S. I didn’t mean to seem like the girl is always the young one and the guy is older it CAN BE OPPOSITE.

  • statutory rape?

Depends how you classify love i suppose. British law doesn’t recognise lesbian relationships at all for instance, and if a female over the age of consent and a male below the age do stuff, the law invariably judges the female to be at fault (unless it’s outright rape)... considering examples like these, i doubt that the legal standpoint has much validity in regard to matters of real personal relationships, including so-called love. The legal contraption of “statutory rape” was devised simply to help an intrinsically unruly society control its intrinsically unruly children.

  • Im highly against it

honestly, i think A AGE is a Number you cant put a number on love… i say this, if the girl loves the guy and the guy loves the girl and she wants to have sex with the guy, n its not just like.. he is makign her or anything, then they shouldnt be in trouble for that. Ive been with a guy that was 19 n stuff, n well we didn thave sex cuz im stil a virgin, but others were telilng me that n i told them, you kno what i dont belive in ages, i just belive in do you trust the person? should age matter in this way? and do you love him/her?... so Statory rape for me is a bunch of load of crap. Age is just a number.. so its not suposed to be punished for when u were born.. that is what i say neways

  • AAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Statutory rape is a crime...I'm getting so sick of idiots coming on here and posting that it isn't. Forgive me, but this is insane. Young people are naive most of the time. With naivity comes danger. The law is designed to protect young people.

  • Laws

Laws merely serve as a basic guideline to follow. Without them it would be possible to “legally” have adults sexually involved with children. This is silly. Whether it’s justified or not you must have certain guidelines to follow.
