danish cartoons

recently, a Danish newspaper printed a bunch of cartoons showing the prophet Muhammed as a suicide bomber, among other things, mainly depicting the violent side of Islam.

Muslims all over the world responded with violence, by fire-bombing Danish embassies, threatening murder, burning flags, etc., thus PROOVING the Danish cartoonist's point; Muslims are violent, bomb-throwing terrorists.

to add my own personal point of view, the image of the prophet Muhammed as a suicide bomber, or a bomb-lobbing terrorist, was NOT created by a Danish cartoonist. He only drew what he saw. Instead, it was authored by those Muslims who practice such things in the name of Allah. The fact that they cannot take criticism, and take a good, hard look at the way the rest of the world sees them, is proof that the are what those cartoons depict; Barbarians. Sometimes the truth hurts, especially when it show your wrongs. so, Muslims, if any are reading this, you are not going to improve our opinions of you by demonstrations, demands for apologies, riots, death threats, embassy bombings, or taking hostages. The only way you are going to improve the prophet Muhammad's image in western eyes is by acting like civilized people, and stopping those who do these things, and bringing them to justice.

I can't fully agree with that. Yes you're absolutely right in many ways, and although freedome of speech is important, that doesn't mean that I'm going to stand up in a theatre and shout "FIRE!" if I feel like it. I have friends who are muslims, and I have heard their story.

My opinion is that yes, they over did it. And yes, Jesus and so on have been mocked for ages and people should turn a cheek. But NO ONE should judge! In all religions this sentence is very clearly stated. No one has the right to judge other people for their actions, especially insulting them and calling them barbarians and so forth. They are wrong to bring blood into this, but one must understand that this is a religion that has had to fight for its survival. How is it that a Lion or Tiger is beautiful? Or that a bear is cute in its own way? Ask that to their victims.

The real tragedy in all this is that man has once again taken a huge step back. And in this day an age where everyone has some sort of weapon of mass destruction, it is very unnerving to see people all around the world debate something that could have been solved in an instant through a heartfelt apology and some people getting 'fired'.

  i have to disagree with some of what you are saying. an apology would not have satisfied the ones calling for blood. they feel entitled to respect, even when they don't deserve it, and will gladly kill to get it, even though when they do so, they lose respect in civilized eyes. years ago, a left-wing rag, who's name i wil not mention, published an article that claimed that Jesus was a homosexual. with it, they published a very contempable cartoon showing Christ on the cross, wearing a dress, with the caption CROSS DRESSER. Were Christian offended by this? DAMN RIGHT! Did we threaten people and riot in the streets over it? Did we burn down buildings and threaten to take hostages? NO! Because we are better than that! So yes, we are in a position to judge.

  The New York Times published a drawing of Jesus nailed to the cross and dipped in urine. They published a drawing of Mary covered in feces and when people called in to protest they said to lighten up and that it was just artistic expression and offered no apology. There were no riots or murders over it. The NY Times didn't publish the Danish cartoon, which I think was a spoof on the 7 virgins, saying they should stop their jihadist missions because there are no more virgins left. Anyway, I veered off point, but what I'm trying to say is that every religion gets mocked but the Islamic extremists are the only ones blowing stuff up because of it, which, as you said, only brings home the assumption that they're barbarians.

  yes, good point. I almost forgot about Robert Mapplethorpe and his "Piss Christ". I wasn't even saved at the time, and that bothered the hell out of me, but I don't remember any Christian riots over it either. more recently than that was the satirical movie "dogma", which made jest of the Catholic church. I'm sure some Catholics were offended, but never did the Pope issue a bull (similar to a fatwa in Islam) calling for Catholics to kill Kevin Smith.

  You are all right. but that's the problem with this debate. I think it's moot. I still don't think we're better. I'm a strong believer in judgement, but my issue is: Christ told us to turn the other cheek. we believe in dying for our belief in Christ. We're used to turning the other cheek. They on the other hand are used to killing and dying for Allah. So it's two completely different views. Two completely different backgrounds. I'm not justifying anything, I just don;t think they should be so harshly condemned. You're thoughts?

If only life was that simple

This is not about the muslims, this is about us all, and the domino effects. Not all muslims are like these exploding dicks, many of them would kill one just as quick as I would if I saw him. This is about streto typing a minority, in a racial euopre, they have all ready done ethic cleanising on muslims, these cartoons are designed to degrade not to teach. Life is scary and confusing enough for a muslim. These wacko's would kill them just the same they will kill you, many have came to the west to escape exploding dickheads. they do not need to dream of Auschwitz at night. Most muslims are just as scared as you and I,, they don't need a big bull eye painted on them, skin heads are dangerous enough, we don't need to encourage them.

cannot deal with criticism? how ethnicentric of you. that would be like me saying "jesus was an asshole who just wanted to be king" or "all americans are self endulging pigs". the aribic world has been a source of scientific, philosophical, and artistic wisdoms for centuries and still are. as for their religion, it is full of wisdom, insight, and power; sure it has a not so good side to it, but what religions dont? before you start beliterating others, take a good look at yourself.
