What is happiness, and how can one achieve it?

Word from the wise?Voted for by D8TisMeXD.
A friend of mine once said to me that happiness was when one got over their fears. But how do you go about doing that? And if thats not it, then what is it? And how do you conquer that goal?

Happiness is always a by-product. It is probably a matter of temperament, and for anything I know it may be glandular. But it is not something that can be demanded from life, and if you are not happy you had better stop worrying about it and see what treasures you can pluck from your own brand of unhappiness.......!

There is little peace to be found or created to last.
Choices can make us unhappy but fear keeps us that way. There's some truth to the comment, "Happiness is a choice", but one can't always "decide to not be adversely affected by the negative" any more than we can decide to always enjoy pain. Happiness comes from self respect, contentment, giving to others, respect for life and the living, and the strength to learn from mistakes. It is a constant "work in progress", as we learn and grow into mature adults...each of us at different speeds and with different agendas, backgrounds, and environments to learn from.
I find happiness in nature and animals, but the alarming rate of abuse, pollution, and cruelty often frustrates and infuriates me, darkening my happiness with its shadow.
There's no way to be educated, aware of the truth, and happy all of the time! But by looking at myself honestly, giving back, doing all I possibly can to help, and using my voice to teach and spread the truth gives me a bit of satisfaction. Seeing someone learn, change, or benefit and grow is the reward that brings happiness!
Also remembering that without sorrow/pain, we would not know happiness/gratitude and that everything changes in time, can be a great source of peace.
Happiness is greater after deep sorrow, a state of mind by choosing positive thoughts, and the ability to find the "silver lining in dark clouds". And nothing is permanent.
