Is religion more important than life?

There are a lot of people who live their life with their religion being the main focus of it. There are even people who die for what they believe in religiosly. Wars and hate are often started over varying religious beliefs. So what do you think, is it really that important?

  • Religion or Life

Religion is not more important than life or most things. In fact religion should be something to guide your life, not be the center of it.

  • Simply Put

    Religion is life.

If we are to live forever and ever in eternal happiness with God, I would be willing to give up my life rather than live that eternal life in a state of hell.

  • Religion seperates

Religion is man made. It is mans way of reaching up to God and trying to find favor. Christianity is God reaching down to man through his son Jesus Christ. It is a free gift . Jesus shed is presious blood to save us and cleanse us from All of our sins. Today is the day of salvation, repent and ask Jesus Christ to forgive you and he is faithful and just to do it. THEN follow after the teachings of our lord. God bless

  • Not the Center of Life

I don't think religion should be put before life, because I think in many cases it is anything but. I think religion is most often used as a source of comfort; something that many people go to when they need someone to listen or to believe in. Many people also follow a religion habitually (they simply do what they were raised to do, and that is the only reason they believe it, similar to believing in Santa because they were always told to do so). Religion can not simply be the center of life: what would be at the center of the life of an Athiest?

  • WOW

I can see that with this there is a lot of diversity. My philosophy on whether or not religion is life is like this. Before I share my philosophy or opinion as some may say, I would like to make it clear that I do believe in God and I do believe that after life there is heaven. Ok. I believe that religion and the basis of worshiping a super being that created us was put on the earth and for us to keep us sane. He did create us but when he did he wanted to make sure that we would be going insane as generations would pass and more and more people would start to forget about it. The "religion" and which one you fall into was made to keep you sane and to keep us from killing eachother and from killing ourselves. So I believe that religion is not life and more of another thing put on this earth to keep us sane and to ensure that we, as human beings, could find happiness and find a meaning for life. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I will be more than happy to hear comments from people about my philosophy, good or bad. thank you.

  • Life minus Religion equals what?

Life in and of itself is purposeless. Religion essentially is the purpose assigned to your life. Regardless of whether your religion is the "true" religion (yes, I do believe there is a true religion), it guides and directs your life in all aspects, everything from what you eat to how you value yourself.

The reason life lacks purpose is that as a part of the universe, we are unable to fully understand it, and the only way to decide our purpose and signifigance is to grasp the COMPLETE reality of our existence. For an analogy, us trying to comrehend the entirety of the universe is like trying to ask a section of a ruler to measure the whole ruler. It can't be done, because the section's definition is relative to the ruler. For the section to be able to measure the ruler, one of two things has to happen. The first is that something besides the ruler measures it, giving a more absolute meaning to the section's relative measurement. The second is that something besides the ruler measures the inch, thereby giving it a standard that isn't subjected to what the section is trying to measure.

For us, religion is what exists beyond "the ruler" (our universe). In order for us to understand the universe, and therefore ourselves, we need that something to define either us or the universe.

Religion and life, therefore, are both intrinsic parts of existence itself. one cannot be put in front of the other.

  • Religion shows the way

Religion tells you how to live your life in order to attain the main goal of your religion. Those who believe in a religion live their lives by some set of divine rules. Religion and life are both important. Life was given, religion has to be taken to make the life worthwhile. Both are important. Life without religion is just an aimless existence.
