what is a "parallel universe"?

  • Parallel universe?

If I'm in conversation with another being and this other being's reactions to our conversation is based on his conditioning (conditioned response, say, to his upbringing), then he is not in my universe, but actually living in one "parallel" to mine. In other words, he is not actually engaged in "the now", only "reacting" to his past. Nothing spooky, supernatural or science fiction about it.

  • Not quite

A parallel universe is literally, a universe parallel to our own. (okay not completely as our universe expands infinitely in all directions but it is outside of our own, but it's not really possible to describe a location of a universe) Within this universe the difference can be as minute as the number of hairs on your head or as drastic as the big bang never happened. What you're referring to is the belief that we're all a universe within ourselves. It's not really wrong, but doesnt fit the common use of the term parallel universe.
