Why is it that Republicans will fight so hard for the life of an unborn child (a fetus) but as soon as it is born, they don't give a damn about them?? No health care, no free meals ... etc.

And what about prevention?38% Voted for by Charlottesimmons, sekmhet eye of ra, DryIce808, Augusta Agrippina, petethemeat.
And along the same lines, why are more options being taken away for the prevention of unwanted pregnancies? Right now the sex "education" system mandated by the government teaches abstinence only. This program is payed for by nearly $170 Million, tax payer dollars! And the medical facts presented to these impressionable youth are full of LIES! They teach that mutual masturbation can cause pregnancy, that a 43 day old fetus is a thinking person, HIV can be spread through sweat and tears... these misconceptions are taught despite the fact that government scientists dispute these claims.
And, it is next to impossible to get Emergency Contraceptive! Even for rape victims. I spent a day with a friend and her boyfriend trying to help them find Plan B on a weekend when Planned Parenthood was closed. The hospital told us that they would charge her $400 to put herself on a wait list to possibly see someone who would possibly prescripe the pills for her. And the University health center told us they just didn't handle that type of thing. We had to call a Planned Parenthood emergency hotline in a town almost three hours away, we were ready to speed over there to try to get EC, but luckily the nurse was able to prescribe over the phone.

here's a bit of irony23% Voted for by NeferMaatNetjer, Weydon, DryIce808.
Republicans and christian fundamentalists both say that abortion is murder, and want to outlaw it. yet neither group wants to increase the welfare programs needed to support single mothers and their children. apparently, they think starving kids to death is more ethical than abortion.
i hear right-wingers say "well, there are other alternatives, such as adoption" but you couldn't get any of these holier-than-thou jerks to adopt a street urchin, if you held a gun to their heads! it would seem that charity is a good work for someone else to do!

Couldn't agree more. It is a horrible thing, according to them, to kill a fetus, but when it comes to whole communities of people in foreign nations, its okay to blow the crap out of them. Confusing... interesting. Perhaps it does not come down to saving lives or killing people. Perhaps it comes down to what makes the most money. Apparently, keeping the poor in thier current state by guilt tripping them out of abortions and forcing them to keep unwanted babies is the most profitable for asshole republicans.

Say what you willVoted for by Victoria1.
First of all, I am not a Republican. Nor am I religious or believe in any form of interfering government whatsoever. But from an outsiders point of view, it is obvious that all of you are full of a lot of hatred for whatever reason. Just keep in mind that hatred blinds people, it doesn't help anyone anywhere ever, including you. Republicans do not want to go blowing people up, making money off it, and starving children. Perhaps a few do, who knows, but so do some liberals I'm sure. They are trying to encourage people to get OFF welfare and provide for themselves and families. They are trying to prevent people from taking advantage of the system and our hard-earned tax dollars by streamlining requirements so that those who are really in a pinch can get aid, and those who have the option of providing for their families can do so. Noone is trying to push a religion on anyone, they just acknowledge that religion is important to them, and want their religion in their communities. They believe that life is to be revered and protected, no matter how it is conceived, because life is amazing and special. Personally, I respect this point of view. People are always thinking "control control control", that we must control everything and make it the way we want it no matter who it affects. Once there is life inside of you, for that short period of time, it is no longer about you...but the big picture. A clump of cells? Thats how you started. If it is not a baby, then you are not pregnamt...dont worry about it. People trying to conceive get excited when they do and dont call their baby "a clump of cells" because they want it. Funny how definitions change. By the way, birth control is very good at preventing pregnancy(almost ALL the time), and safeguards against having to go to the clinic and have a "clumb of cells" scraped out of your body, and a lot less expensive. I think if there isnt already, there should be a program like in other countries, where birth control is widely distributed for almost nothing.Although if people werent so freaking selfish and were encouraged to make better decisions for themselves, it wouldnt be such an issue. Abortion covers up a problem at someone else's expense. Now I understand that rape is not someone's fault, and the choice should be there, and that makes sense. But hate and fear (as with rape) destroys many times... once when the rape takes place, again when living with it, and even again if a life is lost because of it. Please nurture and encourage others to nurture and love everyone and thing around them, and remember how hate destroys. Build, dont destroy. Talk about it later.

God's view on abortionVoted for by jackgillespie.
There isn't anything moraly wrong with abortion. God sees no sanctity in human life. He killed all of the first born sons of egypt. If that isn't late term abortion, I don't know what is.

Think about what you are sayingIt is not the responsibility of the federal government to take care of a child. The more that the individual person depends on the USA federal government, the less freedom, in turn, they will have. Therefor, with your mindset, they will eventually lose the right to take care of themselves. NOT GOODVoted for by Hardhittn63.

That you for bringing that up
Sex education is a subject I feel very strongly about, as I just had a friend, who is 17, get pregnant. You're right. There is a ridiculous amount of hypocrisy when it comes to Republicans and sex. They want to stop abortion but wish to do so by saying it is wrong and against god. Well, if one's wants to stop abortion, they must first start preventing unwanted pregnancies. And yes, that does mean teaching teenagers about contraceptives. Because honestly, when I become the parent of a teenager, I'd rather know that they are being responsible about sex than to go on pretending that if I ignore it won't happen. I second the liking of the Viagra mention. The Morning After pill is oh so wrong, but it's great that we have a pill to help men get it up so women can get knocked up.November 6, 2006
