Valentine's Day

Thoughts.

  • Sham

I personally don't celebrate Valentine's Day, I think it's a joke or atleast it's become a joke. People are made to feel that if they don't celebrate Valentine's than they aren't in love or just very forgetful.

  • ugh

I hate Valentine's day. In fact, I hate all holidays. I mean, I love celebrating them with my family and my girlfriend, (and I know this is going to sound so cliche) but every single one of the damn holidays are so over-marketed that it just sucks the holiday spirit right out of me. Am I the only one that feels this way?

  • what's the point

valentines day is silly and pointless, it is either the most depressing day of the year if you dont have a bf/gf or some frilly pink holiday that isn't speciall because every1 else is doing the same.

  • V-Day.

Valentine’s Day started out with the best of intentions: a romantic day where couples can write each other letters of appreciation and love, give thoughtful gifts and spend the day in each others company. Secret admirers could reveal their feelings (or themselves!) to the person they admire. Even single people would receive cards and nice wishes from close friends.

Unfortunately, the classic Valetine’s Day has been warped into a horrible spectacle existing purely for commercial reasons. It can be awful for single people who feel the sting of being alone more keenly, and its also pretty crap for couples who stress over what cheap, tacky present to buy their loved one because they feel the pressure to do so.

A girl in my class was really angry and upset for most of Valentine’s Day because her boyfriend had to go to the swimming pool for training, instead of spending the afternoon/evening with her. It didn’t seem to register with her that she spends nearly every day after school with him, so it’s not like she doesn’t get to spend time with him. It was only because it was the 14th of February that she felt she had to be with him, if it was any other day she wouldn’t have minded that he had training.

I believe that if you can manage to celebrate Valentine's in an original, romantic way without succumbing to the pressures of buying tacky soft toys and boxes of chocolate, then you've done well. Surely it is more romantic to go to a nice restaurant with your boyfriend/girlfriend on a whim, instead of feeling obligated to because its Valentines?

And what happened to showing appreciation for person you love all year round, instead of just one day?
