Emmnations from 'The One' were compared by Plotinus to idea 'radiations or warmth from the sun. Neo-Platonist ideas anticipated some of those challenges experienced by physical cosmological theorists perhaps

Plotinus, 'The One' and the Source of MatterVoted for by GaryCGibson.
The ideas that Plotinus developed as a neoplatonist writing about seven hundred years after Plato acknowledged the prior ancient philosophical work by pre-Socratic philosophers on elucidating the concept of ‘The One’ unified being that creates everything else that exists through another aspect of himself. Plotinus could have found many of his ideas written in the old testament of the Bible as well as the new testament. For that reason alone I am reluctant to allow Plotinus to be classified as a Pagan philosopher, as he is at any rate far more to the orthodox side that Christian scientists or Mormons.
Plotinus’ refined concept of how all of reality comes to exist may not well be described briefly by me at least, yet I shall have a try…
There is a One that is an absolutely perfect being and principle that is and that contains all of what is in its pure state for-itself includeding space time. The one is absolutely perfect and contains all ideas and thought as perhaps one might say that intelligence contains the possibility of thought yet is not thought itself.
The One doesn’t create anything for himself, yet The One sort of allows a radiation or emmination from itself of all of its ideas. That emmination in a way is sort of like Hawking radiation’s paradigm from a ‘black hole’. The emminations or ideas are not yet physical at this point, but in this intermediary ‘Intellect’ they become plural or separated one from another, and only at a further reduction away from ‘The One’ do the ideas of The Intellect become Being as such is found in material reality.
One can perhaps associate the emminations from The One with the primary uncertainty principle’s source and reason. Time and space, mass and energy as virtual particles or superstrings exist from a one-way timeless production from ‘The One’, that hasn’t any necessity for what has been created. In the Christian Bible ‘The Word’ brings everything in the Universe into being through creation. Plotinus has a parallel paradigm for ‘The Intellect’ that brings all into being, yet which is entirely a product of ‘The One’ or God yet differs. Christians obviously overcome the entire complexity of salvation through the soteriological work of attonement of Jesus Christ, who co-exists eternally as the Son with God.
Plotinian theory in describing ‘The One’ obviously does differ in several regards from that of Christian theology and God’s qualities and attributes aren’t known exhaustively to the well meaning scholar that experienced aspects of transcendent association with ‘The One’ he believed through mysticism.
Searches for intelligent design of the Universe through the Plotinan Criterion would be futile I would think, because the creation is an indirect ‘radiation’ or product of ‘The One’. Physical cosmology in a similar conundrum would discover many paradoxical limits on researches that would parallel scriptural association instead of traces of a prime mover. The Plontinian criterion exists adequately regardless of a steady state or linear time flow from an inflaton or membrane criterion source theory.
