Why do men have nipples?

This may seem like a petty question...

If god made man from the dust of the earth, and women from man, why do men have nipples? Werent men created first, and THEN women? I mean, only women need nipples (breastfeeding) but what is the purpose of a man's nipples? Because we would look wierd without them? I need an answer this is driving me crazy.

God wouldn't create man from women, and besides, he said the opposite. So who had nipples first? the man, or the woman?

    when the fetus is growing (early stages) sex is not deturmined as of yet. the fetus grows nipples and a small projection that will either turn into the glands penis or the clitoris (yes, i'm sorry girls that lovely spot is the same thing as the tip of a guys penis) being male doesn't start until a burst of testosterone (around 4th month i think) this tells the body to lower the testes into the scrotum. at four months the fetus has everything it needs to become either male or female but the burst of testosterone defines it.

    disagreement with the comment above a bit. we don't all start out as women, that's complete bullshit. If you study carefully enough. You realize that we all start out as an X chromosome...or a Y chromosome, depending wher you want yourself to start. But X chromosome does not mean "woman". That's why men have X chromosomes in the first place. ANd the fact that the male female genetalia are similar is not becaue men copied women, but because mammals have to be similar as they follow the same laws of nature. Saying that a man copied a woman because men have X chromosomes cn easily be countered by saying that women copied men because penises are bigger that the clitoris. About the whole...copycats deal...men can't copy women...when the first and second x chromosomes combine in a women the X chromosome in the womans egg is immediately canceled out and deleted. While this chromosome stays alive in a man. So Women have one working and one clinically dead X chromosome. The X chromosomes that men and women have,then, differ completely. and saying that men have nipples because women have boobs is stupid as well...men and women both posses the capability to have boobs...one of the parts of male pueberty is that breasts begin to form but his is stopped by the Y chromosome. Not only that, but boobs are just as useless as male breasts if the lady hasn't even given birth. Women can't just squeeze their nipples and shoot milk out on a whim. Boobs are completely useless along with the nipples on a man and that is a fact. the only important thing that both parts hold to throughout life is that they are erogeneous zones.

    Now, I really want to make sure this is clear as well...nipples...though it may be hard to believe...do not come from the X and Y chromosomes at all...they come from one of the many other chromosomes that you receive at birth. Nipples are not just for breast feeding, but they are a biological requirement in a way. The make-up of the human anatomy would be completely destroyed if we were toke nipples out of the mix...so....male nipples have no relationship with what women use them for. They are a requirement for shaping our body. So if you want the religious side of the answer, god could have very well made men before women and then just given Eve an extra use for the nipples later on...women don't even start life with boobs anyway.

    Depends on what happened. Evolution, intelligent design, combination of the two (we were evolved at the will of God). If we evolved it's probably because we came from single celled organisms and were at one time asexual until one day something evolved into a female and male. Both the male and female were similar and there differences grew more separated over time.

    Intelligent design, the bible says God made man in the likeness of himself, maybe God has nipples. Could be some physical reasons such as hormones or something.

    Intelligent evolution: God has created us and still is molding us to his form, maybe it's not yet the seventh day. We don't know what God's form is and therefore we don't know what greater purpose those nipples of ours serve.

    Men can also breastfeed, it's simple, if the woman died in some accident why should the baby die? it's comfortable that men are also able to produce milk. There, wasnt that hard and it didnt take much logic .

    nipples are actually part of a navigation system for your upper body .without them it would be impossible to know if you were standing up straight.

    My (crazy) theory is that men come from women. First of all, men's genitals are initially woman-like i.e. inside the body. They only decend after x amount of time. Secondly, men have one of both our chromosomes, XX, while we don't have their Y. They're copycats I tell you. Hehe. Ok that's pretty farfetched but that's what I think. Men have nipples because we have boobs. There.

    My guess is that men have nipples so as to allow for a greater chance of survival of the species. Imangine if you would that out on the plains of old when another species is hunting yours, if they have trouble distinguishing between the female and male young there would be equal predation . Just a theory, but just as good as many I have heard.

    I think they have them as erogeneous zones, simply for the pleasure of feeling a woman's caress of fingers and tongue there. Contrary to the opinion of many, God expects men and women to enjoy sexual pleasure. the zygote is male or female at the moment of conception, if God did not intend for men to have nipples they could easily have been absent from a male body, regardless of the time that testosterone is present.

  • My friend (male)

    has really, really sensitive nipples. It could just be different skin there, but it's possible that they're for sexual pleasure (help get the hormones acomin' once they've been stimulated), or perhaps just as above listed (neutral sex-organ during development, before a vagina or penis developes).

    Either way, men and nipples all adds up to one big conspiracy...They're planning something.
