Vegetarians

What do you think about Vegetarians?

  • ...

I could never be a vegetarian. I love my pot roast, lemon pepper chicken, steak tips, veal, etc. I do have respect for the animals that feed me though. I believe that you should respect the animals that feed you Abusing an animal, especially a defenseless one, is unnecessarily cruel. (Anyone who beats a dog is eternal scum in my book.)

many vegetarians have other reasons for not eating meat rather than "it's mean." for example, the Hindu religion teaches that every living creature, no matter how small has a soul. Hinduism also believes in reincarnation and depending on how you were in this life, you get reincarnated into a better life or a worse life than you have now, people can even be reincarnated into animals, so Hindus believe that there are animals out there who contain human souls. that is why they don't eat meat, they don't want to kill a human being and distrupt its life.

another reason people don't eat meat is because they just don't like the taste of it. i know a few people who don't really care if they eat an animal or not, it is just that they can't stand the taste of it (just like how you see little 5 year olds avoiding brocolli...) so not all vegetarians are vegetarians because they are "weak" or "pathetic" but they actually have legitimate reasons for not eating meat.

is a completely sensible way of life. do you realise that you can get far more food from land by farming it rather than grazing animals? scientists say that if everyone was vegetarian there would be no world hunger at all. eating meat is unhealthy- check out a health website for the stats on heart attacks, etc. related to meat consumption. as regards ethics, what right do humans have to pump other species so full of steroids/chemicals/etc that they can't even stand, for the sake of money. making pigs and other animals grow fat so fast, grow into maturity so fast that they can't even move? it disgusts me what happens in the name of humanity just so fat slobs can shovel more grease laden flesh down their gobs. it's completely unnecessary. and yes, if it were a choice between killing a wild animal to live, i would do it, but until that happens i don't feel the need to feast on anothers flesh, just like i wouldn't eat human flesh unless i absolutely had to. also, humans have an appendix, which are only seen usually in herbivores, to help them digest plant material. why would we have one unless, at some time in our history we were herbivores? this presents an even stronger case to stop eating meat.

  • I am not a vegetarian, but...
    ...I don't mind vegetarians.

I'm omnivorous. I try not thinking about what I eat.

Even so, when I eat meat, I'm eating a carcass. Sure, that is disgusting in a way, but meat does have good stuff in it that provides energy and such for the body. Some meat tastes good.

I prefer fish. Some don't consider it meat, per se, but if it isn't a plant [or whatever], it has lived at one point, and you eat it, I consider it meat. This goes for insects and arachnids as well.

The main fact is, animals [of course, not all] eat other animals. Humans are basically animals too. That's life. Plants get sunlight and what not, animals eat plants, animals eat those animals, and it goes on. Animals die and fertilize the earth, thus repeating the cycle. Mostly everything provides energy for something else. It's the natural balance of the world.

Alas, whatever reason vegeterians have, that's their business and I have nothing wrong with it.

If you'd like to see more of what I have to say on this subject, or my counter-points on an opposing view of this subject, refer to the comments under the opinion titled "vegetarianism".

  • I'm a vegetarian...
I honestly don't care about my weight (response to the 6th comment), I would never go against my beliefs (by putting fake fur on my car seats, or wearing it, etc.), and I think fruitarians are just, well, it's odd to be honest. I guess some people might think it's odd that I don't eat meat, so I'm not judging them, I'm just thinking that'd be hard to get all that nutrience and such. But whatev.
The reason I'm a vegetarian, is not because I think it's mean to kill animals, and it's not because I can't eat pigs (which I used to puke up every time I ate it, my body couldn't take it), and it's not because I have emotional problems.
I became a vegetarian, because I have my own little principals and one must put their hearts behind their beliefs and principals. Whether other people like it or not, I have a life and the way I chose to live it doesn't concern other people's judgement. I don't want to sound, well, rude or whatever, it's just I don't think other people should judge people for how they live their life, what they do, look like, or whatever. So, I don't judge people, I don't judge people who are gay, lesibian, vegetarians, or people who have different opinions than me. So, being a vegetarian, I believe that everyone has to be unique in their own way, and they have to go through life following their own principals and not what other people have set as "normal".

Sorry if I come off a bit "touchy". I just get bugged when people judge others.

  • Be wary

I think they are cool. But, only one problem; some young teenage girls use vegetarianism as a means to lose weight or as a result of anorexia. This is very sad, and people need to be wary of identifying if this is prevalent in someone's life.

  • Fruitarians

Hey, if you dont mind, I would also like to get peoples input on what they think of fruitarians. These are people that do not eat fruits and vegetables (plant byproducts) until they are considered 'deceased' (eg fallen from the tree, not picked.) This is because they believe plants are sentient beings or at least conscious beings and they consider it murder. Wierd. Any opinions? And is my information accurate? I am not quite sure if this is right.... Some forms of fruitarianism are just simply a form of extreme veganism pertaining to the eating of only fruits.

  • Kinda Weird

While walking to my car, I noticed a few bumper stickers that say 'Love animals, don't eat them' and 'Vegitarians Rock!'. Okay, no problem with that. Vegitarians have the right to express their opinions and beliefs just like everyone else. Then I notice the seat coverings for the driver and passenger seats. It looked like white tiger's fur, but when I looked again I realized it was fake. However, it just strikes me as strange that a vegetarian would have real looking fur on the seats of their cars. What's up with that?

  • Pathetic and weak

Stupid sentimental bull crap. Period. Vegetarians are people who are litterally so emotionally unstable that they can not handle the facts of nature. That animals eat other animals and that there is a food chain. Welcome to the wild, wild world. The animals below us on the food chain have the right to be tasty. That is the extent of their rights. When we meet up with a man eater, that is the same courtisy we're shown. If you want to become an extremest, I have a better idea for you. Follow the old paths of the Native Americans. Now THERE is respect for nature. Other than that, vegetarians are just annoying, preachy, and weak. Our bodies are designed to eat meat as well as plants. We are omnivores. Hence, we need the good protiens and substance of a healthy steak every once in a while. If you think eating animals is "mean"... GET OVER IT. This is the way of the natural world. If you can't handle this body that you were born into, perhaps I have less faith in humanity than ever. There is a difference between being spiritual, and being pathetic... and vegetarians cross that line and set up camp.
