who are the bravest warriors?

military men (and women) have long been respected as heroes, and for a good reason; it takes a brave soul to lay ones life on the line. with that in mind, i want to know your opinion on who the very bravest warriors in history are.

  • bravest?

well if we are talking the bravest, i would have to say it would be the first line of pikemen. you gotta have more than an ounce of courage to stay still when the cavalry comes bearing down

  • Thermopylae

I would say that the Greeks at Thermopylae were some of the bravest soldiers in history. At the beginning, it was around seven thousand Greeks against over two hundred thousand Persians. By the final day of the battle only around a thousand troops were left to halt the Persian advance, as the rest were dismissed. They fought to the very end, with literaly tooth and nail before they were stamped out. They killed many thousands of Persian soldiers, fighting to the last man. They gave the other Greek city-states time to regroup and push the Persians out of Greece. I find that to be very brave and honorable. Thats my opinion.

  • The Viking Berserkers

I think that the Viking Berserkers are the bravest, or at least up there toward the top. For those who don't know they would wear bear skin clothing hoping it would give them the fighting abilities of the bear. Before battle they would chant and scream, working themselves up into a frenzy, then unleash their crazed anger on their enemies.

The stories say that they would charge in without armour, wielding their battle axes, and were so crazed that they would sometimes accidentally attack their own allies. Some have suggested that they used psychadellic mushrooms to induce this behavior, but resaerch has shown this to be unlikely. In any case it is pretty damn brave in my book to rush in like they did.

  • World War 1 pilots

When the first world war started in 1914, the aeroplane, as it was called back then, was little more than a decade old, and still very dangerous. the airframes were mostly wooden and canvas, with no armor whatsoever. The engines were unreliable, and the machine guns prone to jamming. Due to the demands of war, pilots were given only a minimal training before being sent into battle. the attrition rate was terrible. for every one pilot killed in battle, 3 lost their lives in training accidents. Those that lived long enough to go into battle often found themselves facing superior planes and veteran pilots. A pilot's average life expectancy- ten minutes into his first mission. In addition to controlling his plane, a pilot had to be a good engine mechanic as well, for most of the fluid that the engine needed had to be pumped by hand, as there were no mechanical pumps at the time. There were no starter motors, either. so engines had to be started by hand on the ground, and if a pilot's engine stopped in flight, He had no way to restart it, so that usually meant a crash. Bailing out was not much of an option, as the Germans didn't start issuing parachutes to pilots until 1918, and the allies never did during the war! So, it must have taken an incredibly brave man to fly a combat aircraft in World War 1.
