unfortunately, people are obsessed with vanity for a whole array of reasons. every day you are bombarded with images of what is normal, what is beautiful, what is right…and you just have to say to yourself, that is just a bunch of other people’s opinions on it…even if it is a collective group of people, and they all think this particular way…it’s better to break free from it and find your own beautiful…do what you can live with as far as what is right to you…and all that matters is what you think in the end.

I beleive that some are obsessed with vanity because they have nothing else to work at. Their peers tell them they are stupid, worthless without their beauty, so they concentrate soley on their looks. It isn’t something that we should be proud, most definately not, but it is a way of life in America. Its the way our society has raised us, its the default setting in our minds.

well we have all seen them, those people around us that are actually stupid enough to stive to be like other people but then they realize that their lives ae not all lace and pearls. when did we all get so vein?, ohh wait, i remember it was that 8th grade summer that becky erickson spent in france and brought back some things that would probobly total the cost of a late model car! all i know is, if my boyfriend’s 5 year old daughter ever came home lokkin’ like ‘miss brittney spears’, it would so be ass kicking time! highschool, oh dear lord have mercy on all their little developing souls.. i hate her, she’s a bitch, she ca’nt sit at our table anymore..fuck you miss priss i will sit my happy ass anywhere that there is a open seat! clique this and clique that, ohh i like your eyes where did you buy them..somebody please, help the rest of us..save us from this sugar coated hell that we are all dammned to for the next 4 years! so, i like to shop at hottopic, they have the cutest stuff and even wal mart is finally getting smart enough to make things that we are not all embarassed to wear in public..i am not even close to dropping 80 dollrs for a pair of juicy coture jeans, fuck that, shit i coulda bought at least 3 or 4 outfits for that price, hottopic has some pretty good damn sales and wal mart has good prices. the other thing that i do not get is how the media expects pop stars and wrestler’s girlfriend’s to wear the tiniest outfits known to man and then prance around like a complete bimbo while wearing said outfits..people please..not all guys even want to see every single body part that is known to them..yes even guys like a bit of mystery sometimes! i mean, outfits like that are for when you and your man go out together to dance and whatnot, not inteneded for the whole entire world to see your asses!

some girls are brought up to believe beauty is all they have to offer and because of this will do anything to be beautiful and cover up how “dumb” they are even if they are really smart. some guys are brought up in the same ideas…the prettier you are the more people will like you the farther you will get in life. society has trianed us to think that way.

So many people can look drop dead gorgeous and STILL be ugly as h* cause of their personality. i grew up on the morals of where u dont judge anyone cause of how they look like on the outside but on the inside moreover the “ugliest”(outside appearance) person can be the nicest person ever if u took the time out to get to know that person. i know that im not the hottest chick on earth but i am a nice person and only ask that if you want respect from me then you’re gonna have to earn it and respect me for me as a person and personality…not how i look on the out

Some are obsessed because they rely on mostly their eyes more than any other sense. Isn't it true that your appearence is what people notice about you first? I think it's not only what you have physically, it's also how you present yourself that defines beauty.

I don't think anyone is really vain in this world because no one would choose to be vain. However, vanity comes up because the person either doesn't feel loved or acknowledged that he looks okay. Logically if I feel accepted, just the way I am, why would I be vain? So, love and feeling accepted is a big thing.

Everyone is vain. It is the condition of contemporary humanity to be self-centered, or self-oriented. Everyone is expected to be an individual, capable of being considered wholly exclusively of any other human beings. This arose from the Enlightenment, and it's view of man as a wholly reasonable being(a view, which, of course, is false). Thus, because we are not, in fact, individuals, but are only viewed as such, we are, truly, whatever we are viewed as. Thus, we are vain because everyone thinks that we ought to be considered in such a light as appeals utterly to our vanity.
