What do you think about The Da Vinci Code

There have been many people just saying that everything is this book is wrong but not backing it up. This is your chance. This is not a topic for close minded opinions with no proof. Because the Bible said so or the movie says so is not proof enough.

i belive the davinci coed is wonderful fiction, there are too many unreasonable circomstances for the book to be true. For instance, the whole basis for the book was pinned on the missinterpritation of the word grail. I don't buy it!

  • Fiction. Fun. Dangerous?

I find it very interesting the debate that this book has caused. Having read The DaVinci Code, Cracking the DaVinci Code, and the Bible, I can say that I have been open minded about the entire debate. I came to the conclusion that it is indeed fiction. It was a very entertaining book and possibly a clever ruse of the devil to cause doubt. It worked.

  • good book!!!

What a read ,such a good book! I enjoyed it immensely ,it gave me much to think about. The fact that it could seduce the mind , tickle the intellect and make you yearn for more. I'd say it is fiction with maybe just a hint of fact thrown in .

  • No Backing up ?

That is the most awful lie. They published several books destroying Brown's claims of truth, one included by the author of the book about the Holy Grail, that does not believe in his age. Brown do mistakes like the most simple description of the paitings and basis his theory in a secret society created in the 60's with proved forged documents. It is not because the bible that he is wrong - it is because he claimed several things that compared with the truth are all false.

  • Not a Chance

No way, Jesus was not married he was the son of God and God himself in human form. Jesus was sinless. If he had sinned in his life he wouldn't have been able to sacrifice his body for the whole world. Ah, yes! Correcto! It is not Real, it is a trick that someone made to trick you. The bible is real because their is proof, they just don't want you to know. Jesus fulfilled some of the prophecies that he said would happen. Do you know that chance of one Prophecy coming true, thats like finding a needle in New York blindfolded. He fulfilled more than one! Wow.

  • Da Vinci Code is NOT just fiction

I'm a Christian teenager and I totally love the book and I can't wait to see the movie! What IF Jesus really married Mary Magdalene? You know it's not just in the novel because I had seen a documentary in Discovery Channel [Civilization] about the Holy Grail in England and its relation to King Arthur, but more significantly to Mary Magdalene.

The Bible for centuries have made women whores compared to men, so I don't see why it's not possible that they could have changed Mary Magdalene's real story to degrade women further.

  • Interesting...

Although the many opinions in this topic are, and could very well be, true, that doesn't mean that all of this that Brown "created" (and I use that term loosely) is real. Even though Mary Magdalene could very well be the wife of Jesus, because if he had gone with the Jewish tradition, he would have married. And when Mary Magdalene watched him on the cross with John and the Virgin Mary, she could very well be "the disciple that he most loved". I think, but this is because I'm very ignorant, that Brown's tale is fiction, but it has possibility. (BTW- I am a Catholic, and I do believe in God.)

  • FICTION!!!!

Okay for all you who have read it or not. All you who believe it or not!!! Right at the front of the book first line says "THIS BOOK IS WRITTEN IN FICTION." OR something like that! At my church at the Easter Vigil mass my priest spoke to everyone about this topic. He said that have you noticed that around the BIG CHRISTIAN holidays new things come out that might ruin someones faith for example; the davinci code movie and the scrolls of Judas. He also said that you can go ahead and read these things or watch the movie but remember what is truely true and that is the Bible. Everything written in the Bible is true. Some people may say no its not because they are written like hundreds and hundreds of years after Jesus' death and ressurection. But ya so is this Davinci Code thingy. It was written like 2000 years after Jesus' death. Sorry but i am a catholic and do very well believe in God and am only 16 but I can for surely state this: "IF YOU WANT SOMETHING TO READ ABOUT JESUS AND FAITH OR SOMETHING JUST READ ANY PART OF THE BIBLE. ALL OF IT IS TRUE AND WAS INSPIRED BY GOD FOR THE PEOPLE TO WRITE IT ALL. I'm so sure that God would inspire Brown to write any of this. It is all fiction. I'm not telling you to not read it and i'm not telling you to read it but if you do decide BE ENTERTAINED DO NOT LET IT CHANGE YOU!!!!!!!! ~Brandy~16

  • Yeah sure

This is a fun debate. After my first Dan Brown I tried reading all. I am not boasting here, but believe it or not I solve DaVinci and Angels and Demons many pages before it ended. He is a great writer no doubt. He writes really sloppy ends. The problem with him is that he mixes and intertwines fiction and non-fiction. He has indeed written under the category : FACTION. For those who do not know that category existed and have read these books, please reread. I am a crazy history freak. So I checked each reference he provides in the books. It all happens to be true. NOw with the easiness of internet everyone jsut seems to enjoy the collection of junk knowledge that piles before them. He could have very well just got the info from an assorted set of websites to compile the book. However now plagiarism is one of the hot topic in the literary world. Now after Dan Brown many other authors who thought they were smart are getting caught. Now to slightly go into the religious part of it. I must say all religions have a similarity to the Vatican. Leaving that apart. This is a very nice debate you have here. Just thought i should add my voice...

  • Fact and Fiction

Dan Brown's book, The Da Vinci Code is a story about the curator of the Lourve - who upon his death turned himself into Vitruvian Man. Hence - this is why it is called the Da Vinci Code - it is a murder story with a twist and is fiction. However the source material is based on conjecture - not fact - but conjecture which is made up of certain facts available to researchers. As a Rosicrucian I can tell you that this theory has been around for a long time - much longer than people realise. The idea is that the grail is not a cup which holds the blood of Jesus but is in fact a vessel that holds the blood of Jesus - hence we have Blood Vessel - and those my friends are found in people. How could Jesus have sired children? Well there is evidence whether or not it is real - that he did have some kind of relationship with Mary Magdelene. Also when you look at the church doctrines and the theories behind the Da Vinci Code - decide for yourselves which is fact or fiction.

Jesus Christ - Son of God - Celebate, immortal being - God in human form - and the disciples who he taught and who in turn taught others.

Jesus Christ - Jewish rebel - mortal human being capable of having a normal human relationship with a woman - very knowledgeable in the ways of spin doctoring, misdirection and martyrism - the disciples - a group of Jewish rebels.

Oh and while I am here I may as well point out that the name Jesus is in fact the Greek version of a Hebrew name Joshua which is Hebrew for "Saviour", I will also point out as well that at the time of Christ there was unrest in Israel - in that part of the world as there is today. There were many Jewish rebels and more than one "Jesus", also throughout the centuries there have been many "Sons of God" Such as Gilgamesh for one. So which is the greatest story? If you ask me my own opinion it is all fiction and conjecture - both the Church doctrines and the Da Vinci Code.

  • both...

research is just research. it doesnt prove that its a factual piece of information. i dont see why everyone is so clingy to the fact that Brown might or might not have researched what he was talking about or the things he claims to be true. anything can be wrong because humans are prone to error. and the last time i checked Brown is human. the da vinci code - if it is merely a fiction work, id like to know why all these churches are getting worked up over it poisoning their faith. if their faith is so strong and its the only thing they need then why are they letting a work of fiction stop them now? people are afraid of this book because they can't be sure about whether or not it is real or just an elaborate story made up in the mind of some talented writer. no one can prove or disprove anything. the only thing there is to go off is to watch the reactions of the religious authoritive figures.

i will say that people often times deny the truth when it is believed to be fiction, but later on it turns out to be the truth. example: the theory about the earth being the center of the universe. when galileo came out defending this theory everyone including the churches called him a liar and placed him under house arrest. now today - turns out that the earth actually revolves around the sun. turns out the old man was right... whoops?

i wouldnt be suprised either if the da vinci code had some truth to it. i wouldnt be suprised if it turned out to be like the incident with galileo. the point is that with what little we know now we cant possibly begin to determine whether this book is legit or fictional. what is known is that writers do take a bit of fiction and fact to make what they put out to the world. therefore i believe it is both fact and fiction until it is proven, with solid evidence other than people's accusations, that it is one or the other.

  • Fiction of course

But it does not matter much in the long run. What is specifically holy about Christ is, the Spirit He carried in Himself. The physical Son of God was tempted and did not give in to the temptation, but marriage is joining of two physical bodies and minds. This is a wonderful thing and not unpure or sinful. Jesus, although I believe was not married to Mary, is still the same Son Of God and still Holy sacrifice, even if we did get married.

  • Da Vinci Code?

I think it was a wonderful book. Do I think that people are overreacting? Fuck yes. Do I see a problem arising in the near future due to some fuck who thinks that it will 'harm' our children? Yes. Am I going to see the movie? No, the book was better. I don't have time to sit in a theatre, paying fuckloads of money to see something I'd rather have in the original context. And lastly, do I think that it is true or false?

I don't lean either way. Jesus wasn't an only son, he probably had a wife, and it's fairly possible he had a kid. I don't bother with that. It's in the past. The future is what we really have to worry about.

Dan Brown’s book is not the devil and it’s not just fiction. He purports it to be a historic novel founded on scrupulous research. In reality, it is a devilish hodgepodge of well-disguised fiction and fact. His intentions were to confuse, and confuse he did.

Sticking to our thesis that this phenomenon is a blessing in disguise for curious minds, today we’ll unravel four of Brown’s most tightly wound knots. Some of you expect me to preach, to set the story straight with a call to belief. You won’t find that here. Nonetheless, a clear mind is the best soil for seeds of faith, and God knows, there’s a lot of clearing to do.
