women and the bible

Women have spent all their lives fighting for equal rights to men, and now they have achieved them. But what about god, the bible doesn't have a very positive view about women so when we go to heaven will women be mistreated just as badly as before?

  • On the contrary

No one has done more for women than Christ.

  • Let's get with the program

I agree with the second comment. Reality check people!! I mean sure, women have come a long way in the past 100 years, but we still have a long journey to equality. And as far as the bible and Christianity go, it's a very male-dominated religion. I don't think Christ had the same views of women as His followers did. He respected women enormously. But there are so many aspects of Christianity, and many other religions for that matter, that are incredibly sexist. A case in point: the fact that women aren't allowed to become priests, bishops, etc. Come on people! Let's get with the program. The times are changing, and women are finally getting a little bit of recognition in the work force, but Christianity, which preaches of equality, is lagging behind in the race to a world without prejudice. If the way women are treated is how God intended it to be, I'm not sure I want to be a party to these kinds of beliefs. It's about time we received the kind of respect we deserve, as well as equal opportunities to participate in society.

  • well...

women aren't treated equally anywhere. never mind in the bible, which is, after all, just a book. women everywhere are treated as less than men, because they traditionally have a more caring role- men see power as violence generally, and women aren't usually as violent as men (god is male supposedly, so no doubt He thinks the same). i feel shortchanged to be a woman, and limited in some ways, but i also feel lucky that i was born in england and not a muslim country where women are treated like slaves- the veils especially piss me off. if i were born in one of those places i would be stoned by now.

i say, long live goddess worship!

  • What?

*Looks around in disbelief* When did women have equal rights? Did it happen last night when I was asleep?

Leaving the bible out of it for the moment, women are not equal to men. Not in this country. Who was the last female president? When was the last time you, as a female, (I'm assuming there) took your car to get it fixed and were treated w. as much respect as a man? When was the last time you decided what to do with your body in South Dakota and not the man in politics.

Oh hon, if you think women are still not fighting for equality, you are sadly mistaken.

As for treatment in Heaven, I guess that is all about your personal belief. If you believe in heaven and the bible, then you understand that women have their place in society that only goes so far. According to the bible, women should not speak in church. Hope you don't want to become a pastor. In the bible- we are good for breeding and feeding men and that's about it.

If that's how women are treated on earth, asking how women would be treated in heaven is indeed a good question. But, the bible says that heaven is perfect. There are no earthly bodies, no suffering, etc., so in that respect, everyone and thing would be equal.

As for E.Bunny's comment- I don't even know where to start w. that, so I won't.

ok i don't beleive women are treated fairly. i mean a guy can cheat on you and what does he get called? yet when a girl sleeps with a another guy automaticaly she's a whore. there's too much hatred against women. but there is something about how women want to be treated egual to men i mean yes we want the respect and same amount of money but do we want to be treated 'like' men?

  • Straight from the Bible "NIV" version

Hmmm. . . who ever it was really rallied the women to get pissed off. It looks like only women added a comment to the page and I'm surprised theres not an egotistic male opinion.

Dont get discouraged(women) or big-headed(men) before reading the ending

In Genesis 3:16 (This is after adam and eve have ate from the tree of knowledge and are now being punished and also banished from the garden of eden.) "To the women he(God) said, I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."

1 Timothy 2: 9-15 "I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clotes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worshiop God. A womean should learn in quitness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man(a "man" a child is ok); she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing - if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety."

That may seem a bit harsh but this next part i think the women will like more.

Ephesians Ch 5 (I encourage you to read the whole chapter) In verses 22-23 the Bible tells of wives submitting to their husbands, but the important part, in which I shall make my point, is in . .. 25-29 "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and cares for it, just as Christ does the church."

In the last passage it tells husbands to love their wives as their own bodies and in the next its says what your body is.

1 Corinthians 6:19, 20 "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body."(How do people treat temples??)

So now we know that a wife should submit to her husband, but the husband must treat his wife like she was the church, which is the body of Christ(Colossians 1:18 & 24 also Ephesians 1:22-23)and I dont know how you would treat the body of Christ, but I would definatly treat it with respect.

A Fianl Note: Men treat women with upmost respect and reverence(as of placing women higher then themselves), but women then submit and lower themselves. . . It's a complicated matter and I have only hit some of the high points.
