The Classic protestant verse catholic debate. Saved by grace? or saved by good works? does man need to do anything other than believe in order to be saved? most catholics will pick one side and protestants another, but im interested to hear non christians take on it. just taken at face value at how i present it. what makes sence?

We are saved by Grace71% Voted for by Poet of dreams, Makessenseright, NeferMaatNetjer, I try, pnktrky.
MY opinion comes directly from the bible. Paul says. "WE are saved by grace alone." When the jailor asks paul how he is to be saved he responds " Be baptized and believe". it also says "all who are baptized and believe will be saved, but all who do not believe will be condemmed" note how it doesnt say, all who are not baptized and are not believed will be condemed. and if we could earn our own salvation, what is the need for Jesus? why did he have to die on the cross if we could just do good deeds or buy indulgences?

The blood of JesusVoted for by Carino.
1. There are many ways to be baptized. I am a Pentecostel. I have been baptized in the holy spirit (speaking in tongues, look in the story of Jesus and his disciples in the upperoom for more info.) I have been also been baptized by water. It's not the water that saves you, it's the condition of your heart. The third baptism is in Jesus blood. He shed his blood for ALL of our sin, Past, present, and future. If you want salvation, ask Jesus into your heart. Believe him, trust him, and I promise your life will be changed if you truly experience him.
2. Apostle Paul said "Grace alone." If you are a believer. Jesus promises many things.. Protection, Salvation, ect., "God's wrath is tendered by his love. That's grace. No matter how many times you blow it he is there to pick you up. He is Omipotent and omipresent. He knows when you have and are going to sin. All you need is forgiveness.
3. You earn Salvation through the blood of Jesus. Again, if you ask him into your life. You are saved. You can't be like "Ok, I believe Jesus, now save me man.." He wants a faithful servant. If you go to heaven God will look at you and say "Well done, GOOD and Faithful servant."
4. There had to be a sacrifice to carry all the sin of men. Before Jesus they did burn't offerings of animals such as cattle and sheep. Peace offerings, rice and oil. Atonement (covering of sin) All kinds of wacky dramatic stuff! Trust that, read the old testament.

I agree
Not to mention, good works were never officially defined in the Bible. And to get there by works would also mean to be condemned by our wrongs. So what are they grading by? What combination would get us there? People who beat their wives and kill their parents believe they are doing good works. People who turn themselves into bombs and take out innocent bystandards in a shopping mall believe they are doing good works. Are they? Not by my standards.May 5, 2006

hard
i'm pretty sure i believe in the salvation by faith alone, but the passage a/b faith+baptism=salvation, -faith= condemnation still kinda throws me off. o well. i'm both (baptized and have faith) so i guess i'm alright anyway.mudgod
