Religion- Heaven, Hell, and Reality

Note: I have noting against religion. I respect every persons religion (except any religion that conducts itself in a violent manner-sacrifice, rape, etc..) Who came up with these rules? Why are there so many religions? And the most important question-Exactly what is wrong with religion?

What is wrong with religion?

Many things are wrong with religion. Religion has caused wars that raged for years. Religion has caused thousands of deaths all because someone said that thier religion was the only one that was right. I beleive that religion was supposed to be for peace; it was supposed to unite them together, instead, it has torn the world apart by asinine rules and strange requirements. One of them I find extremely distressing is the fact that homosexuality is considered a sin. Why is this a sin? What is wrong? People tell me that God made those in His image and that He loves all living creatures and beings.Could that not also mean that He created gay people also? They say that God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. Okay. But WHY is it so wrong? No one can give me any other reason except that God says its a sin. That all. Nothing else. Someone who may not exist says that it is a sin. Does anybody see something wrong with that? Apparently not enough. And , what if Christianity is the wrong religion and, say, Buddhism is the right one? Does that mean all the Christians go to Buddhist Hell? Which is right? I say jkust get ridf of religion. All I ever see it create is hatred over thousands of years and it continues to this day. because of the Bible some people believe that the Mark on Cain(?) is symbolic of people of colored skin. I just do not understand religion. I just don't. I would like to say that I do not mean to offend ANYBODY. Again, I respect your beleifs and your opinions, whatever they may be. I would like to point out that I have friends who are GAy and I also have freinds that beleive people who are homosexual is wrong. And I could car eless if your skin was bright neon pink and glowed in the dark. Though, I would hope that it wasn't becasue of radiation. Please, I mean no offense. I am just speaking my mind. If you become angry, don't respond to this or compose yourself befoer sending me a controlled response. Thank you.

  Why I remain agnostic.
  Religion, in my opinion, is simply a form of comfort, nothing more. Religion was created in a time of need because it sooths those in need. It makes it so death isn't quite so scary, and gives humans another reason to do good things. I have an immense amount of respect for those who truely believe in a God/Goddess or several Gods/Goddesses because they have found a secure source for reaching inner peace. I don't find religion nessesary in my life because the comfort that many people get from prayer, church, etc. I get from talking to my friends and such. I feel bad because usually when I present a case against religion I target Christianity, mainly because it is the most well-known to me. But anyways, some briefs of my rants are as follows... God is omnipotent, therefore he knew that Eve would taste the forbidden fruit before he ever created the earth. It is not Eve's fault that there is sin, but God's, because God created the entire concept of sin and willingly placed the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden, knowing that Eve would try it. So wouldn't creating sin be evil, making God evil? Another point is that it is impossible for Eve to have brought sin into the world because if tasting the fruit was a sin, the sin would have been in the world before she tasted the fruit. If homosexuality is a sin, and God is the creator, then is it not His fault that homosexuality is even thought of?

  That comment on Buddhist Hell really made me laugh, and as such I hope it was a joke. There is no such thing as Buddhist Hell. Buddhists don't even believe in Heaven. It's the whole process of reincarnation, and then the blissful nothingness of nirvana (sp). "They say that God created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. Okay. But WHY is it so wrong? No one can give me any other reason except that God says its a sin. That all. Nothing else. Someone who may not exist says that it is a sin. Does anybody see something wrong with that?" I do not agree with homosexuality. That is my opinion, and if you wish you may call it biased but I am still entitled to believe it is wrong. And here is why: You say that 'God says it is a sin' is not an appropriate answer, and that's the only reason people could possibly consider it wrong or unnatural. However, the saying, "God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve" exists for a reason. Evolution. The worm is the only animal that can have two guys having sex, and then have a baby. I disagree with homosexuality not because I believe it is a 'sin', but because I don't see it as something that occurs naturally, and as such as something that disrupts the evolutionary course. "If you become angry, don't respond to this or compose yourself befoer sending me a controlled response. Thank you." Please do not mistake me for someone who is angry. I was merely pointing out two things in your post that caught my attention, and what I thought about them (though, really the Buddhist one is a fact, not an opinion).

    Mad-Hatter, do you believe that homosexuality is a choice? If that is so, then why would anyone choose to be homosexual when not only God but a large portion of society thinks that it is abnormal and repulsive (not saying that homosexuality isn't abnormal). So if it's not choice, then who made homosexuals what they are? God did. So my point is, if God condemns homosexuals, then why does he create them?

  Caused so many wars huh? Do me a favour. Look up 'war wikipedia' in your search engine. Now scroll down until you find a link that allows you to view all wars that were conducted by religious exertion. You will surprised just how short the list is. Now think about the Communist regimes, and Pol Pot and the Killing Fields in Cambodia. All driven by antitheistic atheists. If we are to put the burden of religion on the shoulders of all who are religious, then surely anyone who is not religious should bare the burden of the non-religious. Fair is fair. So that whole list, for you, basically comprises of every other war that has ever occured. Kind of unfair isn't it, when you split it up into two classes? Religion is a fairly broad mental concept. Non-religion is also. Rejecting religion can be for a variety of reasons. Accepting it can also be.

Okay, first of all, religion did not cause war. People did. Religion was merely an excuse. If it wasn't that, then they would fight over money, or land, or power. Wars have always and will always be fought, regardless of whether there is religion or not. Secondly, just because some people blame their disliking of gays on their religion is not fault of their faith. It is merely the interpretation of humans (who are more then prone to mistakes) that get this anti-gay result. These people who blame their hate on god will hate gays religion or no, this just gives them a semi-valid excuse. Religion, once again, is not the problem, but the people are. Lastly, What about the believers who truly enjoy their faith? You would take it away from them because of a few biased beliefs? Look at Buddhists, they never started a war, and yet you would have their religion erradicated becuase you don't like it? Some people live their lives by their faith, and just because I don't does not mean that I can say they're wrong. Look at my mum, she goes to church every week, and I will never tell her not to, because it is something she needs in her life. Open your eyes, you're not the only one here, get over it.

Oh, and by the by, Buddhists don't believe in Hell, but something called Samsara.

Belief and faith is a key part of religion. The fault of faith is that there is no proof, and therefore the existence of God is highly debatable. In every religion there are key beliefs based on opinion and mythology, not fact or logic. In a world with absolutely no proof as to whether a God or set of Gods exist, no one can prove anything. I say, with certainty, however, that there is no such thing as immortality and that the soul, if it even exists, cannot transcend the earthly body into a place called heaven, where everything is perfect and no problems exist.
If you try to argue with faith and religious beliefs, I must then tell you that they are fallacies, and that only logic and fact can expose the true nature of the subject. Faith is a belief, and a belief is an opinion, which is only supported by fantasy and wishful thinking. Logic is reason, and reason is fact, which is supported by the very nature of the world itself.
I have a few reasons as to why I believe that immortality cannot truly exist. First of all, if the body can’t live without the “soul”, then how can the soul live without the body, unless the soul is more important, and more potent than the body itself? However, if the soul is larger than the body, then how can the body contain the soul? In other words, the soul cannot exceed the limitations of the body. If our souls were of a greater proportion than our bodies, our bodies wouldn’t be able to handle the soul, and therefore humans would cease to exist.
The soul may not even exist. When one thinks about the soul, one associates it with feelings, thoughts, and moral reasoning. The area that controls these things is the central nervous system, or more specifically the brain. This has been proven. If our soul exists inside our bodies, then how have we not found it yet? How have we not found an area of our body that controls the things we associate with our soul? We have, and it’s the brain. Still, some may question this. Some might say that the soul isn’t physical; it’s an idea, like love. This is actually proving my point even more. It is an IDEA. An idea isn’t a fact, it is more like an opinion, and until it can be proven, remains a fallacy. If our brain controls thoughts, feelings, and moral decisions, what does our soul do? Does our soul even exist? I may have used logic to show that our soul is not more important than our body, and that our soul can’t exceed the limitations, or even that the soul has little purpose, but there is no way to say that the soul doesn’t exist, however the soul cannot be immortal, because it must die with the body.
Some people might argue that the soul is separate from the body, and that God can create a new, heavenly body for us in heaven, but the law of conservation of mass argues against this theory. Matter cannot be created or destroyed! How can a being, no matter how great, break the very laws of nature itself? If “anything is possible” with the power of God, then explain why that God doesn’t use his amazing powers to bend or break laws of nature in order for the betterment of the world. I can tell you why, because the laws of nature exist for a reason, and if they are broken, then the very fabrication of the universe would not exist.
“A bit of faith” is needed in order to believe in God, because there is no proof. Well, a little bit of faith is needed to believe in pretty little unicorns with pink horns and amazing mermaids with colorful fins, and its true that we can’t prove, or disprove the existence of these creatures, but man has roamed the earth for generations and never found proof of these creatures, yet many different cultures believe in them. Men in the past have talked of a god, because they cannot truly comprehend the amount of power it would take to carve lakes and build mountains, but what they lacked was the knowledge that NATURE created those things. Is it so hard to believe that we are meant for nothing more than to live our life and help give birth to more generations? Is it not enough that each and every one of us will most likely do his or her part for the human race? The truth is yes. We want to believe that there is something more, and out of this want, and almost need for the hope of living in a better place, is why religion even exists in the first place. Religion was created out of our own selfish desire.
Furthermore, don’t shove your religion down other people’s throats. The main reason is because when you are that pushy, the other person wants nothing more than to NOT believe in what you are so avidly shoving down their throats.

the thing that is wrong with religion is the fact that we have big huge groups of people all over the world that think there religion is right.and that causes relisious wars and shit all through the world.people lose the right type of faith.people don't understand that it doesn't matter what kind of god you belive in it matters that you have faith at all.
