Evil

Is there anything absolutely wrong?

  • Yep

God defines what is evil, exactly. If there is no God, you guys are right on. I believe in God so I think there is such a thing as evil that doesn't change and isn't just an opinion.

  • No

Because evil has not exact definition, and what is evil in the eyes of one person isn't in the eyes of the person commiting whatever act, it seems impossible for there to be anything that is absolutely wrong.

  • What Evil-

good and evil is like right and wrong. it simply is a matter of your opinions. for example: "the are evil. "

only in the sayers opinion. to the group in question they could be doign something that they consider is right or 'good'.

you can't define evil, because it differs from everyones perspecives. however, general opinion and the aftermath of a certain event which is deemed as 'evil' will cause people to belive that a certain group of people or idea is 'evil' when the are only expressing their opinions for what they probably think is 'right and good'.

    Does evil exist?

The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists? A student bravely replied, "Yes, he did!"

"God created everything? The professor asked.

    "Yes sir", the student replied.

The professor answered, "If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil". The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, "Can I ask you a question professor?"

    "Of course", replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, "Professor, does cold exist?"

"What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?" The students snickered at the young man's question.

The young man replied, "In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat."

The student continued, "Professor, does darkness exist?"

The professor responded, "Of course it does."

The student replied, "Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton's prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn't this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present."

Finally the young man asked the professor, "Sir, does evil exist?"

Now uncertain, the professor responded, "Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man's inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil."

To this the student replied, "Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God's love present in his heart. It's like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light."

    The professor sat down.

The young man's name: Albert Einstein.

Oh, and of course, God to me isn't the Christian god *smiles*

  • Relative

I don't think that evil is just the absense of good, because what is good? Good is a name that humans have given to what pleases them, and evil a name given to what displeases them. There is no exact definition for either, it changes from person to person. So I would say that neither good nor evil exists in this world, only mankind's ability to discern which is which in his own mind.

  • you can kid yourselves all you want

but there IS such a thing as evil. a rebellious angel may have fathered it, but mankind embraces it. Every time someone does something he knows to be wrong, he commits evil. You can kid yourselves all you want, but YOU KNOW RIGHT FROM WRONG... and when you choose to do wrong, it's evil. when you know what is right and you choose NOt to do it, that is also evil. You can fool yourselves, and you can perhaps fool other humans, but you WILL NOT fool God, no matter how hard you try.

  • Evil?

Evil is a point of view. It is nothing more than an opinion. From Adolf Hitler's point of view, he would call the Jewish peoples evil. From my point of view, I would call Adolf Hitler an evil genocidal maniac. So, as I said, evil is nothing more than an opinion.

  • But what if..

Hold on if you say that you do something wrong then its evil, then you must know that's wrong. But what if you didn't really understand right from wrong. If you thought hitting someone because you don't like them is wrong, so in other words its evil. But then if another person thought it was ok to hit someone for the same reason because they didn't understand that it was evil, would it still be classified as evil?

  • I think evil Doesn't exist.

I think evil and good is just 2 words that humans use to categorize their actions. If no one in the world believed stealing was evil, murdering was evil etc. Then there would be no evil, because no one thought anything was. Does that make sense. Its hard to explain. When babies are born they don't know that murdering is wrong and evil, they learn that it is from other people telling them, but if they weren't told then they wouldn't believe murder was bad/evil.

  • EVIL is as follows..
    1. If God exist, then God is omnipotent, omniscient, and morally perfect.

    2. If God is Omnipotent, then God has the power to eliminate all evil.

    3. If God is omniscient, then God knows when evil exist.

    4. If God is morally perfect, then God has all the desire to eliminate all evil.

    5. Evil Exist.

    6. If evil exist and God exist, then either God dosen’t have the power to eliminate all evil, or dosen’t know when evil exist dosen’t have the desire to eliminate all evil.

    7. Therefore, God dosent exist

Evil is a human ideology. It's an abstract concept that encompasses anything and everything that human beings consider "bad" or "beneath their species".

For everything there needs be an opposite, if we have a God that is "good" then there must be something opposition against that God, since no human being can be considered "perfect" by all other humans, the defect has to be caused by something.

Ever watched every other species on the face of this earth? Do they define morality for their friends and family? Do they create laws and impose them upon society? Do they punish, exact revenge, plot and connive? Do they build empires to rule or gorge themselves on prosperity, habitualize superiority complexes?

Humans do, to "curb" the species perception of "evil"... to purify the existence of that which they can not understand or refuse to embrace.

There would be no evil without mankind. So, perhaps it is just humankind that is evil, and all else is natural, and what evil is percieved is merely instinctive, natural occurances.
