What is the Point of Living?

Even after having been raised in an entirely Christian household, with an entirely Christian family, I could never quite grasp the so firmly held belief that my relatives seemed to have. I could never believe in God. For most of my childhood I thought that there was something wrong with me, that I was a sinner and destined for Hell, with no chance whatsoever of attaining salvation. I was damned. It wasn't until my early teenage years I finally escaped the negative influence Christianity had on my to realize it wasn't damnation, but a belief in Atheism I held. After that I seemed to fall into an abyss that centered mostly around wondering what the point of exsisting was if we are destined to oblivion. Any thoughts?

  • Pain and Pleasure.

If we are just doomed to inexsistance, would the best argument be to say that we must persue as much feeling as possible before we cease to exist? I cannot see any other possible answer.

  • You are the creator

We create whatever reason we want to stay alive, if you have no reason, why are you alive? No matter what reason we choose, it is not wrong, it's only wrong if we force ourselves to follow a reason we obviously don't see being correct. when the correct reason is found, glorify it with the utmost pride, for that is you and no one can take it away.

  • The purpose of life is 'evolution'...

...That is, to become something greater than you currently are. To gain powers which you do not currently have.

Another way of saying the same thing would be to say the purpose of life is 'freedom'. We are all slaves to the forces around us which keep us in our place, and the purpose of life is to realize this and find a way out.

  • What if....

Firstly, I would like to know what type of "nergative influence" Christianity had on you other than to cause you to think about eternity?

I will state my beliefs, then ask a question for anyone to answer. I believe that humanity is made for the sole purpose of glorifying it's creator. This is a goal that has not been yet obtained, to my knowledge, by any being other than Jesus Christ. Ultimately, since humanity is not able to sufficiently live to the standards and laws set by the creator, we are destined to "damnation" as the original poster stated. But then the unbelievable part of Jesus comes in. I'm not going into any detail on that because there are already plenty of posts on that on this site, and I beleive most of you already have some knowledge of who Jesus was. (but if anyone wants more info, I will share gladly) But ultimately, our life has no point excepting to serve a being greater than ourselves, because, ultimately, what is the point of acting only to give yourself pleasure until you die? It's a pretty temporary and pointless thing.

Now, my final question is, what if you're right and I'm wrong? What will I lose? I want someone to answer this question. If Christians are wrong and athiests, believing that life is void of meaning other than self-satisfaction, what do the Christians lose? And what if it's the other way around? What if Christians are right, and athiests, muslims, whoever else is wrong? What do the athiests etc. lose?

  • Atheism hmm?

When one says they don't believe in something, that implies that they understand that which they refuse. So tell me, who and what is this god that you've concluded does not exist? More importantly, why doesn't he exist?

  • Meh

Believe in God and an afterlife or not, life boils down to simply having the best time you can for as long as you can without being a douchebag.

  • why do we live?

We live becasue we are humans. It is the chain in life. We live because we need to make a stand to support a system, to believe in free will. We live to support our lovers and to learn to be kind. We live to bred and to punish the unjust. We live to be proper, to show right from wrong and to correct the un corrected. We live to teach the next generation to treat the world with a new and improved hope of survival. We live to be who we were meant to be, for whoever you are. We live for truth, for love, for happiness and for hope whether it is given, found or seen, it is in everything, in every movie and in every flower or grave yard. There may always be a price but we live to live the free.
