When is censorship okay?

[*** CENSORED FOR YOUR PROTECTION ****]

  • Of course not.

Personally, no. I don't think it is okay, ever, under any circumstances for the government to censor what I say or write. I posted this here after reading something on allpoetry and I'm curious about how others feel.

  • Information

All information is good, because it inspires the mind to evolve, and if this information is inapropriate for the current taste of the masses it will only be corrected with the use of more information, Therefore all information is good.

Withholding of such information is always a step towards close-mindededness and predjudices and thats a step towards hate, would you like to teach your children to dislike something before they comprehend it?

Freedom of speech is one of the matters of undeniable purity. There is no compromise. it's an ideal.

  • touchy question indeed

I, for one, hate censorship. I would rather hear the most blasphemous and pornographic things publicly declared, no matter how outrageous they may be, than allow this country to become a police-state where every voice is monitored, every opinion scrutinized, and every written word subject to the censors pen. However, I know that there are many, especially of my faith, who don't share this view. there has to be a certain moderation, paticularly where young children are involved. adults should recognise that whether they want to or not, they are setting examples for children, good or bad, and therefore should strive to set as good of an example as possible. Using obscene language, or dicussing matters that should be kept private in public,or getting butt-faced plastered drunk in the afternoon and passing out in someones lawn, are examples of behavior most of us would not want to encourage in our children.

  • Only sometimes

The government should be authorized to censor based on obscenity or a legitimate threat to national security. Anything else is, I believe, illegal. But the government must be allowed to utilize censorship of sexual or profane material because some negligent parents don't care if their children are exposed to them even at a young age.
