Let it be known right now, I am not a prejudiced man. I hold nothing against anyone who is different than me. The thing is, in US society we have to 'be nice' to people of minorities so much that they can just start complaining if we do something unintentional, and it turns into reverse racism. We have to give them too many priveleges. I'm not saying them having priveleges is bad, I'm saying that it's because of the fact that most whites are afraid to be friends, or do something that could be considered racist, because they don't want to get slammed on. Opinions?

Are you serious?Voted for by StarbeatsKid.
Reverse Racism...yeah, okay.
"The thing is, in US society we have to 'be nice' to people of minorities so much that they can just start complaining if we do something unintentional, and it turns into reverse racism."
No, what the problem is here, is the hang up on race to begin with. Why care who is what "race"? You do not have to be nice for anyone, and the paranoia of being percieved as racist comes from the fear that your racist ideals will be revealed.
First of all, let me say this:
Race, is a socially constructed concept that has been used by the society to systematically oppress minority "races". I don't care if a MARTIAN comes down here and wants to chill, thats fine, whatever. That Martian is a different RACE. In this world, there are different ETHNICITIES. Race is just a way to instill fear and a "this niggas out to get me" complex. Screw your complex.
Secondly lets really examine how the system oppresses minorities. We will start with crime. Acoording the official UCR reports (reports about how many people are arrested, compiled by the FBI) African Americans are arrested more often than White people for the same sorts of crimes. However, according to official self-report surveys (The NCVS compiled by the census bereau) there is not statistically significant difference between the two "races". Now, we have a criminal justice system that is racist, more likely to send people of color away for the same offenses, in fact the ARREST process itself in inherently racist, and the discrimination does not stop until there very end to the justice process. Now, going to jail or prison is enough to screw you financially, especially depending on the way the situation was wrote down on paper. Try getting a good job with a record. Now, we have economic vulnerability, which leads to a deviant form of survival, this sort of survival is subsequently criminalized by the system, landing them in cyclical jail visits.
It is also important to look at the laws themselves and where they came from. Those in power make laws to keep themselves in power. For the record, the MINORITY is not always a different ethnicity, a minority is a group of people who do not control the power. For example women are technically the MAJORITY since there are more women in this country than men, however they are still considered a minority because they do no control the power. So the majority is the rich white male. Now the rich white man (we'll shorten it to "The Man") likes to keep his comfortable position and therefore molds laws to fit his needs. Take Marijuana laws for example, marijuana laws were put into place because "it makes Mexican people go crazy and rape white women" Of course it does. Coke was outlawed because it made Black men rape white women, and Opium was to get rid of the chinese after they "Stole all amaerican mining and railroad jobs"
Anyways, so the laws are made to keep The Man in power, and arrests are made accordingly, leading to economic vulnerability. Affirmitive action is meaningless. Its like breaking someones arm and giving them a bandaid.
Reverse Racism, pah! I'm sorry your feelings were hurt because you feel a little uneasy around other "races".

NeferMaatNetjer
One of my good friends works for medicaid. He spends all day long interviewing people who wish to attempt to get on it. Now from his own mouth he said many blacks will pull up in new or almost new Cadillacs. He said he trys to go by their application to filter out those who honestly need government help from those who are hunting a free ride on the system. He said basically the government will *MAKE* you accept them on the program whether they need it or not. He has seen this countless times: 2 brand new cars, 1 fairly nice home paid for, nicely dressed, but apparently needing government assistance...LOL,yeah right. Now on this same program he has seen poor whites that seriously needed help and could not get any help at all. After working for the government for many years he said he has serious doubts about how the government is handling these programs. So NeferMaatNetjer there are many on this board who would call you and I racists for making posts like these but then that would actually confirm what we already know: 'racism in reverse' is alive and well in the USA. You see I know where you are coming from for I see it every day in my little part of the world. I just want it to be fair across the board for everyone regardless of their race but there is seemingly a double standard used right now, at least in government programs, and this is not right at all. -------------------------------------------------- Another example: I have a black friend who I see alot. He and his wife had a baby a few years back. He joked and laughed with me about the fact it only cost him less than $50 for they went through a government program. About a few weeks after that my wife and I had a baby too. We applied for the same program and were turned down. That baby girl cost us thousands of dollars. You might say well it's because you make more then he does. NOT TRUE! His income is much higher than mine. He works 2 different jobs and has a vey high income. His wife even worked right up to 1 month before she delivered. They live very comfortably. Again NeferMattNetjer I know exactly where you are coming from. I see it every single day!April 19, 2006

I know this scenario very well. when my knees went bad due to arthritis, it took over 2 years for me to get on disability. When a native american man I know got arthritis in his back, he was on SSDI less than 6 months after he applied. here's one for ya. one time i had an abcessed tooth, and the nearest dentist was in Browning Montana, on the Blackfeet indian reservation. when I got there, they REFUSED to see me on the grounds that I wasn't a native american. I had to go 100 miles away to Kalispell to get to a dentist. Now, if I had been a tribal Indian, I could have gone to ANY doctor ANYWHERE. If any doctor refused to see me, one phone call to the ACLU, and their lives would have been hell on earth, but because I'm white, I'm not good enough for reservation doctors. THAT'S discrimination!April 23, 2006

Re: NeferMaatNetjer
the thing is, we're all a little racist inside, we're all different, and because difference isn't tolerated in a society that wants us all to be the same, ignorance is the key, don't think about what you think. If we can all accept the fact that we're different, then those who judge will be judged by everyone else..... as a racist. Please register or login to comment! It's totally free
