Dreams about death

I know that many people have nightmares. But where does the ones where you die come into play? It’s not like you want to dream them (unless you do, then please get some help pronto).

So why does your mind play these tricks in creating a scene for your death or watching yourself die?

  • Life

The inescapable outcome of any life is death. While it is not something that most people consciously consider, our lives, in a sense, are preparation for death. Some people leave this world unafraid, while others are terrified by mortality.

Dreams give us an experience of death, force us to confront that which we fear. This allows us to prepare in some way for our eventual fate.

  • Last thought.. First to Dream

I feel it whats really at the back of our minds what we most fear as we cant describe or know what death truely is all we know is the persons physically body stops growing/dies. This we fear, and its natural just like humans wanting to question things which are unknown or unexplainable though normally someone whos very afraid of the unexplained often denal it exists example. ghosts.. somebelieve in it but though theres no real physical proof some choose to believe they don’t exist, i think this is because there scared of things that are unknown. Therefore the thought of dying is horrible and very scary and as soon as this “death thing” sinks in it is always at the back of our mind but cause we never think about it, it apears in places that start to alow the thought at the back come out and letting us create a dream of our worst fear even if its not what we’ve been thinking about. Well i donno my opinion theres lol

  • Our Sweet Dream of Death

Well, I am very interested in dream intrepretion, I study it and try to analyze my dreams all the time, to better understand myself. Death is a transistion, a change. Perhaps a part of ourselves is dying off, this could be negetive or positive depending on circumstances in the dream. It could also be how you feel.

  • Never really

I’ve dreamed about death repeatedly, but it’s never been me who has died, it’s always been someone I’ve loved. In particular is my ex-girlfriend. I believe that in my case it’s because I was afraid that I wasn’t going to be able to protect her, that she was going to die on the inside when she emerged into the world.

  • Death Dreams

Rarely do death dreams imply your own physical death. Rather they point to parts of your psyche that are dying and being transformed. All of life is tranformation and the final physical transformation is the earth’s reclaiming the stuff of your body.

The majority of my dreams, even though I am a college grad with good academic record, school failures. So far that failure metaphor in my dream escapes interpretation. It could be some area or areas of my life are being ignored or failed. Or, perhaps dreams for most part are just disordered information being processed or stored by the brain. I think science is a long way from really understanding if dream imageries have any meaning.

  • If you look for the answers...

If you look for the answer to your question, you will find one. What all dream analyzers and other people that know or have had the dreams will say is that “death” in a dream usually represent some period in your life that is leaving/fading or beginning. It’s the birth of new ideas, or something coming to an end. However, if you don’t wake before you die in your dream, it is POSSIBLE that your body will go into shock and die… however, those incidents are VERY rare, so quit worrying!

ive never had myself die in a dream, but i see people die. and i have dreams about being dead. the future is so subject to change, a dream about death now may morph into something totally different in 50 years.

  • Dreams are a Brain's Following Natrual Progressions

Like my cat, who has a micro-mind, and who’s decisions are based on the micro-immediate and a limited memory. So to do our brains progress through dreams- in what it thinks, based on experience, is a logical order of micro-steps. And, if you didn’t know, in a death dream, you actually do die- when you wake up.

  • I've died in my dreams often...

I’m glad there’s a thread on this. Because I used to die in my dreams a lot, but what’s weirder was, i fealt it. Let’s see, I have been : shot, eaten, killed by an alien (REALLY WEIRD! i stood there, but my senses and feelings sort of melted away and it went black), pepper sprayed, and more. Being shot was weird. But being eaten, that was really weird. (i always remember my dreams and they are long and detailed)to make it short, a lot of stuff happened and i ended up being chased through a subway station by a tyranosaorus (i butchered that spelling). and then i realised i was dreaming (which is happening a lot lately)and i figured it was morning and time for breakfast and that i should wake up. so i stopped running and the tyranosaurus came and chomped my upper body off. I could feel its teeth. i still had the vauge sensation when i woke up a second later.

i have no idea why my mind thinks it relavent/important for me to die in my dreams.

there are some times, when i realize i am dreaming, but still don’t want to die because i know it will feel bad/hurt.

  • Perhaps not your death

I’ve had dreams envolving airplane crashes, poisoning etc. After so many years, I’ve come to realize that I’ve been only the onlooker to these events which would actually take place in the near future. My husband and I would read the many airline crashes in the newspaper after I had explained in detail what took place prior to the actual crash. I posted on a dream net work the gasing of the people in the theater that took place over in Europe two days before it happened. I also witnessed in my dream the poisoning death of thousands of Iraqian people. I only found out this truth when after the US military found the multitude of bodies buried in trenches. The worst part of having these dreams is that I feel the actual dying process as well as the interior fear. You may be experiencing as I, the death of someone else. Or maybe your dream may come as a forewarning. I had an on going dream that I needed to be mentally prepared for my vehicle being force off the freeway and into the center divide where the ground formed into a ditch. It happened one day while on the freeway with three of my grandchildren that I was forced off the road and onto the center divide. Having previously made mental note as to how I would handle such a situation I was able to calmly negotiate my truck without incident. Pay attention to your dreams and when you first wake make note of your first thoughts even if they don’t relate. Your first thoughts are often the interpretation behind the dream.

  • Its no problem!

I’ve had them before, sometimes recurring for a few days at a time! All i can say was it was weird, not scary. But that’s because i’m not scared of death. At the time i jokingly told a friend about the dreams, and gave him a plan for my funeral, in case it was a preminition! However, I’m still alive, so its all ok.

Actually the only possible reason I can think of for the dreams was what i could call a “near death experience” that I’d had the week before – I’d rather not go into that! :-P

  • Scandolous.

Dreams are taken much too seriously. Not often do they have some sort of cryptic messages.

The brain works in a very interesting way when it comes to waking life and dreams. If anyone has seen the movie "Waking Life", then you'll know what I'm talking about here... There's a certain part of your brain that controls your memories and your experiences. While you're awake, it limits any memories or thoughts to only being in your head; you can't feel them, or actually experience them, you can only imagine them. While you're asleep, that part of your brain is no longer restricted, and you can actually experience everything you imagine.

Have you ever noticed that a dream second is infinitely longer then a waking second? You can have the most intricate dreams in a single minute, where as you may have to wait a lifetime for something to happen that can compare. Well, with all of that brain activity, it's extremely hard to control. That's what makes your dreams so unrealistic most of the time. However, some people (primarily shaman, and medicine men) have mastered the art of dream travel/control. Once you can train yourself, you can do whatever you want to in your dreams.

So, dying in your dreams has no significance as to what happens in your waking life, it's simply brain activity.

  • Changing Relationships

I read somewhere some time ago that when one dreams of death that they are subconsiously worried about a change in the relationship between the person dying and themselves. Of course, if YOU're the one dying in your dream, well maybe you have a split personality or you don't like part of yourself or something like that. In my Composition class, we start off with discussing our dreams. My friend Zoe, my teacher, and I take turns analyzing the dreams. (Yes, yes, I AM getting to a point!) Teenage girls seem to dream about the death of their parents. I think that what I read was right. Now I really wish I could remember where and when I read that, but I really can't (oops). I'm a Senior in High School and most of my classmates are Sophmores, Juniors, and Seniors. This is the time when "we're" just learning how to spread our wings and fly. This is when we're getting ready to leave the nest. It only seems natural for us (teenagers) to dream of the death of our parents because our relationship with them is changing - it changes every day! Parents of teenagers, you know how moody we can be - one minute we'll love you, the next we can't stand you.

  • Death

Death is something I believe but I don't believe it can touch me in any way. Recently I had a dream I died. It was sad and I was afraid. My friend was a live and well and she could see me, which the guy I previously was envious for went to my funeral. But in the end I was wished back to life by myself and my friend and an old man. How weird right? It justt depends on your theory and who you listen to I guess.

but I do not believe that dreams are a bunch of overrated pictures in our heads. THAT IS A BIG UNDERSTATEMENT.

  • My Experience
I have been a christian now for just over 2 years. Recently my faith has been knocked a great deal due to certain events. However the other day i asked God to do something amazing and refered to the passage in the bible "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions" as it has always amazed me the idea of a divinely inspired vision.
Now this is the odd part.
That night i had a dream normal as anyother dream:

----I caught my bus normal time to go to school, i sat on the bottom deck of the bus towards the back, infront of me there were two women one on the left had BIG curly really red hair and a distinctive face the woman on the right had a slim face and extremely white/silver hair. As the bus drove up the hill i got up out of my seat and went to see if my friend was upstairs as i usually do, halfway up the stairs however the bus hits the brakes and i fly down the stairs crack my head open and die.----

woke up and thought ok...that was an odd dream...got ready for school etc. got on the bus sat down and infront of me there were the two women from the dream that spooked me a little bit as we were driving up the hill i decided to get up and see if my friend was upstairs, however before getting up out of my seat i realised wat might be going on and so sat back down again as soon as i sat down the bus driver slammed on the brakes and skidded slightly off the road sending a couple of kids flying to the floor with no injuries...but i, had i not had this dream, would have been half way up the stairs wen the driver hit the brakes.

Make of it wat you will. i know how i see it
