DO I REALLY EXIST?18% Voted for by manfred, Malign Mentality, pnktrky.
i've always thought Descartes was pretty strange to bother with such a ridiculous question as "do i exist". Now if you define "i" in terms of some kind of an everlasting identity such as an ego that's worth talking about. Maybe our individuality as human beings is a temporary identity necessary at the physical level of existence and that identity will indeed die. So is the soul the same as an eternal ego? Good question! Unfortunately most people's concept of life after death is nothing more than that! Soul however can be something very very subtle..in buddhism there are the dualist as opposed to the non dualists. The dualists believe that the soul always remains separate from god even though it is the same in quality as god while the non dualists believe that the soul merges into god and disappears just like a drop would merge into the ocean and cease to be a drop..the experience of the dualist and the non dualist however would ultimately be the same if you really go through the steps so i think the whole question is irrelevant..the knowledge of what can be experienced as pure soul is not available to anyone on this planet! i've also heard the "individual soul" vs. the "collective soul" argument and it seems like the same one.

An image has been forming in my mind lately..Well. I'm very interested in psychology, and as I was reading about mental disorders.. It occurred to me:12% Voted for by Sayame, TeChNoWC.
I could just be an illusion.
All life could be a hallucination.
And in the REAL, REAL world, I was in an asylum.
Locked up like a bird in a cage.
This keyboard in front of me, for instance.
It might be a book.
A card.
Etc.
What if in the REAL world I was the opposite gender.
Or an entirely different person.
Life as we know it could be nothing more than a wish.
But this excludes OTHERS as well.
Because if this is a hallucination, then the people you love don't exist either.
....
That's a depressing thought.
Forget I said that.

A dream only ?12% Voted for by camus, deafforevr.
If some minute insects invisible to the naked eye have only a matter of seconds of life and yet they see that as a lifetime, could it be that we are as puny and insignificant to something else as they are to us ? If their lifetime is nothing compared to ours then ours may be nothing to others who are so large that we don't see them or they us. We might just be a dream of some vast creature and what is only seconds in that creature's dream is our whole history. Our destruction and annihilation rest with their waking up. Scary eh ? camus

You Are What You Were Before the Big BangVoted for by david13.
That which is eternal is that which you are. That which was before the Big Bang, that which all of us share, that which you externalize is but an internalization of who we are: that infiniteness, nothingness, the inside/outside consciousness which is contant and all else revolves around.

I think, therefore I amVoted for by Yanyin.
"Cogito, ergo sum" "I think, therefore I am")... René Descartes.
Your eyes do not see things they just act as a lens. Your brain then processes the information provided by your visual cortex and finally tells you what you are seeing. If you had a lion a honey bee and a human being all looking at a yellow flower, the lion would see it as black and white, the honey bee would see it as red and the human would see it as yellow.
Every experience we have in this world including feeling, seeing, hearing, tasting and smelling is all determined on how our brain is set up to receive the information.
We only exist as thought.

what if we...Voted for by Chanell.
all are just apart of someone else’s imagination, just maybe there is another world in side of our heads on the subconscious of our mind.
Random isn't it?

Maybe notDo you exist? I have no way of knowing that you are nothing more than a product of my own imagination. All of my senses are controlled by my brain, but maybe my brain made it all up.Voted for by Red Death.
Do I exist? Yes, I think I do. But what does it mean to exist? How can one gauge existance? The most popular way to answer the question if I'm real or not is "I think, therefore I am" Seems pretty fair to me. -
Are did who what? No! Why would you think something so proposterous! A person? Existing? Bahahahaha!Voted for by Backward thgindiM.

sometimes i wonderSometimes i wonder about the world around me.Voted for by The-Brain.
i wonder if my conscious is the only true existence.
Example the term "I think there for i am" well if such power lay in a though why not "I think there for you are"
your consciousness is what my consciousness believes it is. we existence is a complex system of "lives" interconnection with one & other forming a "network" all inter connecting but like all networks there must always be a source... a single consciousness creating the connection but if this is true what is real. sometimes i wonder if when i close the door the world continues to exist on the other side.... out of sight is out of mind, is out of mind out of existence. Do i exist of am i an idea of a person thought up by the source of existence to create on more connection in his web........ food for thought -
Existence ExsistsI don't think we have enough brain power to determine existance on an individual level. But there is exsistance. The fact that we have conciousness says that. Exactly what that exsistance is... thats another matter altogether. I hope there is more to it than meets the eye. Would be depressing if this is the face value of it.Voted for by Razed.

reality v.s. dimension
well the main question in this isn't whether or not we're really here though, because obviously we are here, but it is the reality for us as people, and may not be reality for someone or something elsethough we could just be a dream true enough, but then we have dreams, and in those dreams is there a history and a past in and of itself. so to restate what I said at first: the matter isn't whether we're here, it's in which dimension is it that we exist. ^^
