Why do we love old films so much?

All the "old" movies, from film noir to technicolor. we love them all. Almost all of theses old films have become American classics and faovrites. Please, try to explain why we still love these films, however dated they may be. Are we as a society simply escapist, wishing to return to a time of innocence? Or, are we naturally inquisitive, wondering what made these films so appealing to the audience of the day. Those are just two options, please, expand on them as you wish. I'd love to hear your remarks.

THank you for your time
  • Family Movies
I think most of the classics were family movies. Now days the whole family cannot hardly watch the same movie. I think that is sad. Too much violence and sex. What ever happened to good 'ol fashioned acting to keep your attention.

old movies are a time capsule for me. i recently found a old vhs of red dawn. a movie from the 70's complete with old cars ,anti soviet union rhetoric and of course Patrick Swasey lol. i think we've lost a little of our sole with this constant fighting between dems.& reps.
i'm rambling i guess it comes with the aarp discount.

  • Most of them died

The only old films we still watch are classics because the rest weren't as good and are now totally forgotten. By the way, I don't really like old movies. Some so called classics really aren't that interesting to me.

  • Acting
Far the most part, old movies were overdramatised, each part and line delivered as if it were the most impoprtant statement ever made, and just general unrealistic. The story lines might have been better, if human nature had been more acuratly portrayed, but mostly they stunk
