Time33% Voted for by A Dreamer Awake, Eye Sea, neverreturn.
Well, let's see here. No one else has mentioned the fact that time is a human creation. Time is represented through matter, just as is sound, just as are words, but there are no words, sounds, or times except in the mind. In the Universe, the atoms are just there, moving. Sure, all of those atoms were somewhere else before, but there is no physical "time". There was a "time". When all of these things were in different places, but there is no tangible time. There is no stream of time that you can turn around and ride back to the past. You can't go into the past that has already occurred, because you would have to move every particle in the Universe to where it had been at that point in "time" that you wished to travel back to. Time is just something in our minds. It is as real as love, as sound, as pictures, as thoughts, but it is not something that slows movement like an atom. Instead, time is represented by the movement of particles. Particles behave in different ways when they are moved at different speeds (liquid, solid, gas, plasma, etc...), they also travel differently when they reach light speed. Just because an atom is moving differently, because it has reached the speed of light doesn't mean that it's present and past are coming together. An atom really doesn't have a past, except in our minds. The future of something is only a present that will come after a series of events. I don't know how relative this discussion of past and future coming together is when neither object is really an object. If you want to ask me then how is it that we understand and remember the past or the future unless they are real, then you may as well ask me how it is we see, hear, taste, touch, or smell. All of these are mysteries and are not of physical things, though they are represented through them. This is the mystery of humanity, that we are not of matter, but of soul, and what is that? I cannot answer you that question. I will await feedback.

yes time is the key22% Voted for by manfred, neverreturn.
as human beings we are so limited in our understanding especially about the question of whether god exists.it's funny to me to see intelligent people even scholarly philosophers debate whether it is possible for something to have no beginning and no end..maybe not from our perspective..but that is very very limited!

Relative, but defined.22% Voted for by Jakob, neverreturn.
The key to remember about relative time is that the past, present, and future are still all defined. There just ceases to become one past, one present, and one future. Stephen Hawking described the passage of time in three ways: the direction of time in which the universe is expanding, the direction of time in which disorder increases, and the order of time in which we remember events. At the present, all three arrows of time are pointed in the same direction. This means that time, though relative, has a specific order, starting in the past in which order is greater than the present, in which we remember events, and in which the universe is not as expanded as in the present, and from the past we proceed towards the future, in which order has decreased, the universe has expanded, and we do not remember events. So, the past and future are very clearly defined, and never run together. What seems to change is the present, which is defined as the events that we are experiencing, but are not remembering. Time is a component of our universe, and it has the charecteristics of everything in our universe. It is not infinite, as the universe is not, and it is ordered, as is our universe.

if present, future and past mean times..........Voted for by neverreturn.
For Einstern, present is merely illusion because present can include both future and past. If we travel in light speed, space contracts and time dilates. "As speed increases, past and future seem to come closer together. This illusion is due to the time dilation effect causing the present moment to increase, so that it will encompass more and more of the past and future. When the speed = c, the present incorporates all of the past and future, so that time exists in one still moment of now."
I think, if present incorporates future and past, time ceases and eternity comes. (a little bit like what Christianity and other religions proposes.)

And,
Do you think it is plausible that future, past and present occurs simultaneously? And what the world be?

Time travelVoted for by camus.
A long time ago, when I was only 17, a friend of mine asked me if I believed in time travel. I answered by saying that we will never be able to travel into the past and be able to communicate with the people from that era, otherwise people would have come from the future to talk with us. She responded by saying the future hasn't happened yet so how could people travel back from there. I politely told her that those would be the exact words spoken by somebody in the past if we were to visit from our present ! camus
