Are mythical creatures really myths?

Is the Lochness Monster a fake? Are fairies just fairytales? Is Big Foot really just a hoax? Vampires and other mystical creatures are they really fake?

  • no...

there are too many coincidences if mythical creatures are really myths. how can so many people see something before it is televised or stated to the public…the odds of them being mythincal are astounding!

  • Hmmm....

They have always intrigued me and a part of me wishes they did exist. It helps make life a little more exciting to believe in them.

  • Not sure...

I’m the kind of person who needs to see things to believe them when it comes to myths and similar tales. Much as I would love to believe. Vampires do exist, but not in that way that they do in fiction like Dracula. Many people today classify themselves as vampires, so does that mean they exist? Does a person who believes they need blood to survive count as a vampire?

  • Who's to say?

I, personally, try to keep an open mind about everything in this world. It does no good to limit one’s beliefs by what society deems true or false. I don’t think that all myths are true, obviously that would be a bit too much, but maybe they are. My point is, most myths are based on some fact or some truth of a sort. Yes, I’m sure that a lot of them have been blown out of proportion, but they could be true. No one knows everything, so no one can claim to be completely posotive about this without some doubt in the back of his or her mind, whether they know it is there or not.

  • Why would they be?

I think that something had to spark the tales and myths. I mean seriously, would that be in someone’s head? Not naturally… something would have to influence that. Plus like ohsweetie said, there’s been to many coincidenses. I personly believe everything to a certain extent until it is PROVEN to be not true. Does that make sense?

  • storytellers entrancing an audience

i think all the myths originated from some original event, and were blown out of proportion, exaggerated and added to (eg. 'giants' were perhaps just averagely taller men, like the celts were). but glorified tales of heroic deeds can twist a tale, and so much was told by storytellers who had to entrance an audience!

  • They are real

just because you have never seen one doesnt mean someone else has. There are legends about Dragons in EVERY culture there is no way they had enough contact to exchange these myths as at least Dragons are real.

...i believe that some of these myths are real. Just because they can't be seen doesn't mean they aren't real, creatures like this would have to avoid human contact, i'm sure they've realized if they're seen they're most likely killed for study, damn scientists trying to prove everything. vampyres i believe in, and werewolves, fairies are questionable, because i just can't imagine how they could have came into existance. vampyres are humans and bats, what's a fairy, a human and a butterfly?? iono, those are just my thoughts

  • Vampires

Vampires may not actually exist, but there is a disease (one of thise big words)in which humans crave human blood.

  • Perhaps not.

Any myth may or may not be true.. but many are at least BASED on fact. Such as they mythical creature gryphon/griffon. Some think that it is based from the bones of a triceretops that were found before there was knowledge of dinosaurs.

  • Myth or Truth?

Although I personally think that myths are rubbish, it depends in the eye of the beholder... after all, we all have freedom of though...

Propably myths got their origin from real facts or events, but got twisted due to the fantastic mind of human beigns... it's important to remember that what our eyes can see, especially if it's in a foggy, stormy, dark night (or in certain psychological or physical illness), could be deceiving... would a logical, rational person believe in dragons? please... altough many cultures have dragons as part of their myths, believing they created the term dragon at the same time it's quite ridiculous...

Many myths are unreal and their proof of existance is non-existant... there are myths that could be real like the Wendigo or the Loch Ness Monster, mainly because the sighting places in which they've been seen are almost unexplored. Not all we hear, read or see it's real, but still, along with illusions, thoughs and dreams, they're part of our minds...
