    Because most of the western world approaches life in the same way the Christians did in the early years. Take what you want by what ever means you feel neccesary, and disguise it as being the right thing to do.

    After centuries of ruling by fear and torture, (both physical and mental) the christian faith has a strong hold in the psyche of the population. That that hold is one of fear is no accident. Just look at the situation as it stands now. US has a christian president who has the country embroiled in a war and is doing what it can to convince every one that it was and is the right thing to do in order to defeat the evil in the world.

    They have done it in the past and if you think they won't do it again you are fooling yourself. Given the opportunity the christians would turn to whole sale slaughter to impose thier will on the population of the planet and smile all the while believing that they are doing it for the sake of good.

  • Reason

    It gave medeival peasants a reason to stay loyal to their lords. It gave the oppressed a reason to live. We search for purpose. IT gave us purpose. But is it real? Why do people still obide by laws written in a time where the wheelbarrow what have been the pinnacle of technology? Don't let tradition blind you. Approach it clearly. Then decide if you will make the same mistakes your ancestors have made.

    WHy the bible is so popular in the Mid-west on the Usa? I, have no friekin idea, lol. I'm a christian, but i moved from a pluralistic big city area, and its not so much the bible that bothers me, but its that people are so narrow-minded, its like a game of, who can you trust?? omg its so annoying that it annoys them!

  • The bible is popular because..

    Most people cannot think for themselves or act as their own island and need the dependance of some tangible object to place the blame on for the selfish acts in their lives. Or to justify the means of all that goes on around them.

    Why were polytheistic statues so popular in ancient Greece and Rome? Why did the ancient Egyptians build pyramids and large temples? All mythology has a time and place. Right now, the Bible is most popular. Maybe one day some other religious thing will have its day in the limelight.
