Time and temporality, as discussed by many philosphers and thinkers alike, are difficult concepts to grasp for most all human beings. It is difficult to even describe what time is, other than to decribe what the effects of time actually are. We as human beings are tuned to perceive time as a simple three-folded occurence: past, present, and future. The widely accepted view of time, today, is that with it comes space and being. Space and existence can not 'exist' without time. Thus, I want to give my general opinion of what time does, as well as what time hinders human beings from doing.

No Time and All TimeVoted for by mmgLdvdL.
The concept os no time and all time easily reflects that of Eternity and the Infinite (infinite can easily be applied to both temporal concepts as well as physical, Spacial objects). A great deal of Western civilization is not doubtful of the idea that we, as humanity, are lving in the "End 'Times.'" Personally, that could very well be the case, though I have no objective point of reference to base my opinion on; thus, the subject of the End Times is not up for scholastic debate. Or is it? My belief that we ARE in the End Times is founded on, mainly, two points. The first is that, because it is believed that we are in the End Times, we are in the End Times. This is a, more or less, Cartesian stance on the subject. But my second point, which is founded more on logic rather than dualism, is the idea that: because of 'progression' through history, and the events that have led up to our present time, we find ourselves in a world filled with great chaos and uncertainty from which only 'God' can save us. But it is much more simple than that. What had brought humanity to its current situation? Humanity! We, ourselves, generate what is/was/and will be. The human being, in both its individual and collective sense, has changed very little over the mellinia. Little can be said to refute or support this position. What knowledge can we say hat we have or don't have that our predecessors before had or did not have? To view the Human 'Being' as a seemingly changeless entity, we bring into discussion the subject of change. True, scenerios do change, as well as technology. But as technology changes, so does Humanity. But humanities reltionship to its technlogy fails to change. It is always the same. They both remain in balance in accordance to one another. Thus, and this will begin to reflect the Judeo-Christian tradition, what is 'has been' and always 'will be.' Though time does exist, its effect on the absolute concept of humanity does not ecist.

What is time? A Greek paradoxVoted for by rob7.
The ancient Greeks thought time is the movement of matter. They asked the question:
If everything in the universe suddenly stopped, all matter was frozen in place for a billion years and then it started up exactly as it left off how would you be able to tell if time had actually passed or not?

How to approach temporality?
'It is not uncommon for the struggling artistic soul to run up against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, while at the same time experiencing a very real disconnect separating the self and the surrounding beings. There is lacking a sense of community. Meanwhile, one is experiencing a crisis of self. Who am I? Why was I put here? How am I arrived to this point in existence? What is the purpose of existence? The answer to these questions seems elusive, non-existent. We look to build a solid basis for our understanding, yet the necessary materials seem out of reach. Here is where I find within the power of the human spirit, some marvellous qualities: faith, hope, and charity. The soul must give to the body what seems to be lacking, a purpose and the will to achieve it. Some of us externalize spirit, conceiving of God, angels, demons, saints. The realization of Spirit allows us a rope to hold on to, to be rescued from the hungry appetite of our own ego. Love, a miraculous concept, an ethereal feeling, conquers all' first posted in response to a suicide poem appearing on the second day after the astronomical autumn. Please register or login to comment!
