I think some things written in the bible weren’t meant to be taken literally-and i also think it is alright as a christian to disagree-such as homosexuality-i think that those people still can have faith in god-I don’t think thats a sin

the book is all about symbolism and metaphors and it has been translated so much it is not the exact copy they made all those years ago, if they went word for word they would be in terrible condition…

The Bible was translated so many fuckin times that mistakes were made and some fuckers put in shit that they didn’t want to see happening today. Take Gay Marriage for instance. I can’t believe those damn christian conservatives are targeting Shrek2 now for the crossdressing bartender instead of The Simpsons episode this pass Sunday when Patty came out to be gay. This world is so fucked up. I thought christians were supposed to love one another but apparently I was wrong. Their job is to apparently condemn any evil instead of trying to make the world a better place.

I think you need to study the different forms of literature in the Bible if you are going to fully understand what it means, not to mention learn the Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic it was written in. Some if it is literal, some of it is what we call apocolyptic literature, which is not meant to be taken literally. It's meant to be. For instance the Book of Revelation. As far as parables go, yes they are a simile for heaven. Jesus says before all of them, "the kingdom of heaven is like..." but that doesn't mean these stories should be ignored. God can't explain to us the truth of heaven because we wouldn't get it, so these parables is what we have been given. Now just because something is not meant to be taken literal does not mean it is not the true inerant, God-breathed Word. It is still true, but not in your technical and literal sense.

I think the bible should be taken metaphoricaly, the ten commandments are good moral guidelines to live by. But the entire thing about god hating homosexuals, i think that’s just a load of shit. god gave us free will, and he should understand that when our time comes for judgement. it has a lot of things in there about morals and what not, and for that i think it’s good. i’m more agnostic than anything, so that’s just my views on it.

The is just a bunch or rhetorical bullshit created by people who feared everyone and had no answers to life. To make up for their crappy lives, they created the bible. There may be a god, but he is about free will and respecting others. If you claim to be a Christian, you can at least respect people who are non-Christian. I personally think that god was what man created to falsy solve his problems. Learning to think for yourself is the real answer in life, not some condescending piece of biased rules.
Whether or not god created man, man did create the bible. I think most people would do well to remember that. Of course, that is just my opinion.

no, because you have to remeber that the bible was only written a few centuries ago, if you was the one who wrote it out, wouldn't you add your own little thing in there, no one stoppin you. First, and for the person who said "the Bible itself states it is the infallible word of God. It also says this:
”All Scripture is Godbreathed” (2Tim. 3:16)" any one can say (in this case write) that, how would u know im lying. i think that if you took everything literally in the bible it would be damaging to you and the people around you, for example the adam and eve story it was to explain how sin got into the world, but what it also does is make it look like women are the reason we have inherited the original sin from birth

The Bible is like any other Sacred TextVoted for by T F Pihf.
The Wise will use it to get closer to God and the fools will use it to attack their enemies. If after reading any religions scripture you find yourself hating those who according to your understanding don't comply with it than you're "missing the mark". "Why do you behold the mote in your brothers eye but considereth not the beam in your own? Because you're stupid that's why.

most of the bible is spoken in parables, metaphors, and they shouldnt be taken literally, last week my little sister read something about how you shouldnt share your rice with another man, she got confused and i explained to her it was talknig about a man sharing his wife with another man.

No, but at least follow the 10 commandments if you claim to be Christian!Voted for by DragonDemon.
I think in all religions, the believer should take the faith to their own level. But if you call yourself christian, should you not embrace everything stated by that religion? Can you call yourself a complete believer in God and the bible if you, for example, have sex before marriage, or steal from your mom or dad, or even just disrespect your parents? Can you? I mean, the bible states clearly that you may NOT steal, you may NOT disrespect your mother or father, and you may NOT have sex before you marry….
So as much as I believe in being an individual, if you don’t believe in the basic “rules” of what you call your religion, you should reconsider your public line of faith…
No, you shouldn’t believe in every single word, but at least the basic rules and statements of it.

I believe that many things in the Bible were there so imply provide explanations for future gnerations as to things that cannot be explained, or couldn't be at the time. As far as that goes, that's all relgion really is, but that is off subject. We shall take a look at the story of Noah and the Ark as an example. If you look at the dimensions of the Ark itself, and convert them to modern measurements, such as feet, then you will find it would have been nowhere near large enough to hold two of every single creature on the planet. There are other examples, but that is all I feel like discussing right now.

Believe is a strong weapon. In wrong hands it destroys nationsVoted for by Paradise Lost.
If you read the Bible through the eyes of the church (especially the Catholic Church) it's just an instrument used to gain power and oppress people with their sense of thruth. It might be that the bible has suggestions how to live a proper and good life as a human being but unfortunately most interpretations lead into hatred. E.g. the Crusades in the medieval times. And even G. Bush uses 'biblic' expressions to justify his way of behaving. So, it's interpretation which brings you into hell or heaven. Believe is a strong weapon. It's how you use it and how you want to understand it. The bible is written by men. At this point I want to say that humans make mistakes. Choosing the wright or wrong words or to translate something not in a correct way (if there is any way to translate something correctly). You can say the same thing for the Koran. We shouldn't be so fanatic and believe every single word. Again don't forget the bible is an instrument of power used for specific reasons.

The Bible is a series of stories meant to be an ethical basis for Christian living. Having said that, the Bible is entirely too paradoxical and too rigid to be literally abided by for modern man.The book "Leviticus" in itself would have us perform routine animal sacrifices on blood-smeared altars and put more than half the world's population to death

for ever christian out there, did you know that Jesus Christ never once in his life admitted to being the son of god, lord savior, christ, or anything! he never said he was the son of god, even tho his father had a dream that mary would have the son of god. isn't that something a dad would tell his son?? it wasn't until 100 years, 100 YEARS AFTER jesus's death that religious men started calling and titling him the son of god, our savior, christ...good to know?

Christians should not and do not always take the bible in a literal sense. I am not Christian but I know many people that follow Christianity that have done things that I think would be against their religion. Anal sex and homosexuality for example. They interpret the bible differently though. One does not believe in sex before marriage, but he'll do anything except vaginal intercourse. Another is gay, but he believes that since God forgives all sins he will forgive him. Therefore the bible and any other religious book are open to interpretation, just like every literary work in existence.

No, because...Voted for by street-crazy.
If this religion is real: God did not wrtie the Bible Himself, He used the minds of men. But sense He cannot mess with free-will (otherwise why did He create us if He can conrol us), man can mis-interpret the Words of God. Or God may have a sense-of-humor as well. If it is not real: Then someone in the "Biblical days" wrote a book (known as the Bible) and created his own religion, or it may have been just a book.
