Why do people think it's OK to be rude?

Why do people think it's alright to be rude on the internet when they aren't rude in real life?

  • because...

when you're on the internet, you're completely anonymous. you can say practically anything you want and no one can stop you. people take advantage of that ability and that is why people are rude. i, myself have done this plenty of times and find it quite fun

  • Why do we have to be nice?

There are no laws requiring people to be polite on the internet or anything. So why does someone have to be nice?

  • As we learned from Thumper...

If you can't say nuthin' nice, don't say nuthin' at all.

Did you know it doesn't take ANY EFFORT AT ALL to not type your snotty remark? lol, it's true!

  • What a pity...

that courtesy, for many, has gone out of fashion. That anyone could even ask the question, "Why does someone have to be nice?" or make the comment that they "...find it quite fun" to be rude is remarkable to me. It takes no more energy or effort to be nice than to be rude, yet some people thrive on flaming, name-calling, and arguing.

I have a feeling that the people who are rude on the Internet are also rude in real life, but moreso on the Internet because they can hide behind it. Sounds like low self-esteem and cowardice to me.
