What are your L plates or L's?
Ah. I see now. I am new here and just figuring things out.
Try to see it as another year or two that you know you won't die in a car you are driving. Just a thought.

Seriously?
more strict on driving than drinking in England? Here in the U.S. you have to be 16 to get your license but need to be 18 to drink. Well, really any under age teen can find it anywhere but legally, the law says 18 here.June 1, 2006

My Thoughts
A majority of accidents occur with teenagers. And you think we should lower the age? I can say for certain, myself and those I know were no where near responsible enough for a license until we turned 16-17. There may be some exceptions, but teenagers are generally irresponsible and I'm speaking from experience here. Lowering the drivers age is a poor idea in my opinion, at least until the youthful populace shows more responsibility and necessity in regards of driving.Kazrith

bad Idea
more often than not, the younger you get your lisence the better driver you think you are. this being the one greatest missconseption in our age group has lead to several deaths. i know many people who are 17 (what we in BC call N drivers(means no parents in the vehicle)) and fly down the highway at speeds over 120 km/h (this is about, oh i donno, 79 m/h) when the speed limit is 100 km/h (60 m/h). just the other day one of my fellow classmates totaled his car on the strip. less than 16, not a good idea. and off hand - isnt the age for alcohol in the states 21? bc (canada) its 19 and alberta its 18. did you know a 17 year old can buy a gun and ammo but cant buy alcohol till 18-21? weird if you ask me.petethemeat

Maturity is an interesting issue
I would support driving, and drinking for that matter, at any age. But I have to be honest, I wouldn't give my kid the keys to a car I own until he or she could afford the insurance to cover any accidents if he or she drove it. There's no way I could afford to fix all the cars he would run into as a 12 year old. Adults realize that as fast as our reflexes are, you can't stop in 100ft when a kid jumps out on a 35mph road when you are going 60mph and your cars stopping distance at 60mph is 126ft... It's that type of calculation that kids have trouble with because their minds are still growing. They don't think that it's going to happen to them. This is not true of all kids, but it takes some time to come to these realizations. I'm at an age now where I realize that though unlikely it could happen. Rarely do I feel I have a reason to drive unsafely. As a young man, I loved the speed itself more.June 9, 2006
