Why are yawns contagious?

Whenever a person yawns another person yawns. Why is that.

  • If you read the word yawn enough, you yawn

That true too, seeing people yawn, hearing people talk about yawning, hearing people yawn, reading about yawning all make you more likely to yawn. Why do we yawn? I don't know, and as far as I know scientists haven't figured out yawning either. (fast fact, I yawn twice while writing this, cut that now it's three yawns)

  • I don't know

but I do know you are correct. To me it's almost impossible to watch someone yawn and not have a sudden urge to yawn too.

  • Cool

I really love these sort of questions. Shows how little we really do know, if we cant even explain something as simple as the properties of a yawn.

  • Something Biological

Something biological... I don't know, though. I always try not to yawn when I see someone else yawning just to prove that saying wrong.
