Water: beautiful or disastrous?

  • water

water is beautiful, terrifying.... symbolic. it's one of the only things humanity can't control-- underwater is a whole other world, secret.. not our element. mystery- that's what water represents to me, mystery and life, sectrets and truths.

  • Life

Water gives us life. It also takes it away (drowning etc.). If water deals with life, and life is beautiful... then beauty?

  • Fire

Fire: Beautiful or disastrous? This is almost the same questions, it gives heat and cooks food, but it also kills.

  • Almost

Almost the same, but not really. Think about it. Yes, fire has been the foundation of human existence, but water is somehow different. Water is an isolation boundary, it keeps people from other people. It allowed and didn't allow for exploration. Ice can preserve things where fire destroys. In ancient times, wherever there was water, there was life. Still, now, people move towards coastal cities. Are they mesmerized by beauty? Or do they feel the pain of it, I.E. hurricane Katrina. I read a book once, The Secret History by Donna Tartt. The character stated, "beauty is terror." Maybe it is both - ?
